its funny this is the only way ive been able to do any ferreting this season ive been doing ok and its keeping me and the dog fit . its nice doing a quick hit and run and move along .

i would never lend my dog out the time and effort ive put in i think i would rather lend the wife out lol -
i would have liked to have started years ago but i didnt have the time to justify a runner but i work for my self and can make the time now .

i agree its one hell of a buzz when the dog takes off and i cant believe how much fitter i am since ive had the dog but i havent started running around making funny noises yet lol

same here buddy i'm 44 and have always done a bit of air rifle hunting nothing serious mind , but recently got my first lurcher 7/8 whippet 1/8 collie and a longdog 1/2 whippet 1/2 italian grey and 2 ferrets , my cousin the king on here has hunted for years and he got me into it really although i have always loved whippets .. used to ride trials all the time but getting older now and don't do as much on the bikes now .. about to start doing some ferreting and can't wait and also gonna try some lamping when the dogs are old enough .. great site here for learning .. some cracking and very intere

when you get your runner you will wish you did that years ago it has become a bit of an obsession for me i cant drive past a field without a quick check lol Wanted a lurcher for a good while,but for various reasons decided to wait till one of these has gone (my dogs live in) didn't want to get one and later decide 3 dogs is too many and pass one on,good bad or indifferent its here for life I know what you mean about obsession ,it gets in your blood,always scanning fields whilst walking/driving looking for "signs" Your dog looks a cracker by the way ATB for the season, Dave ive

ive had terriers for years i know what you mean about a steep learning curve the lurcher has tested me at times . ive found some usefull stuff on here that got me through the tough times

no not much difference i think the farmers have seen and heard it all from all age groups spot on mate, , its no differnce now to as it was when 1st started .!! i started at 30 year old, always had dogs around me as kid, but mainly bull breeds staffs, pits, bull mastiffs. there were lurchers back then, but being honest most were kept by gypos etc,, ionly got into lurchers by chance really, was walkin g a bull mastiff bitch one day , and seen a lurcher chase a tree rat, i thought at the time it was greyhound, but the bloke said it was colliexgreyx salukixgrey ,and i tagged along

i cant help it it got the dog to help with ferreting then its just escalated from there as soon as the conditions are half decent im out with him

i was just wondering how many of you started later in life with lurchers im 45 and im just getting going with my first lurcher . i was around lurchers as a youngster but the usual distractions of life , work family and all of that ruined it all . i dont think its a mid life crisis lol i think its made it easier to train my dog im quite patient ,

i use the green stanley flasks ive never had a problem with them i make it 7 am its still hot at 3pm

hello mate the dulux paint is probably the best paint to use all round not cheap but nothing good is . they do a diamond range of paint its very hard wearing shop around wickes are somtimes cheaper than dulux suppliers
