  1. But the master with the hounds had searched and found. Go on ! Tayaut ! Tayaut !
  2. Sometimes hare lost hounds.
  3. The pack of "anglo-francais de petite vènerie", very specialized for hare. Some fanfares before hunt.
  4. We have been hunting hare with a good pack of hounds this sunday. The youngers had to run and run after hounds during more than two hours.
  5. A collar with badger hair, specialised for french bouledogs.
  6. The previous pic of the badger stew is a fake but we have tasted a badger terrine which was good. In switzerland, valais region, there was a traditionnal meal with badger meat.
  7. Video of a badger release at the end of a hunt in France. (It isn't mine).
  8. Past 6 feet, we are using a bucket with a rope. It isn't speedy. But we never dig more than 10 ft in the same hole. Sometimes with badgers, we have to dig several holes in order to cut the hunt. In that case, the accumulated depth can be higher. And at night, hunters sleep deeply !
  9. At the end of the hunt, badger is catched alive. You have to make a choice : release the animal or kill it. It depends of the owner of the land. If we have to kill the prey, we try to do it cleaner and faster as possible. It's a matter of respect for quarry. We have a captive bolt pistol with strong cartridges, as for cows. More we respect the animal we are hunting, our society will respect us more. So we have banned pics with blood or animals with injuries. It's our way.
  10. In most part of french territory (may be 90%), foxes are considered like vermin. So you can dig out all the time. In some parts, foxes are game. They can be hunted from september until the end of february (general hunting season). In that case, forbidden from march to august. The nutria is considered vermin, you can always dig out.
  11. they have done a big work to be able to film it.
  12. Badger, last hunt of the season saturday the 12th of january. We are under the french law. Hunting season for badgers is closed from the 15th of january to the 15th of may. It's the period for births and growth and the main period for reproduction. We have done four attacks. It's a spot we hunt each year. A burrow with 10 holes. The first with a young patterdale bitch. Unfortunately, it found a fox and has catched it. The second one, on the same den, with a 6 years old patterdale. It found the dead fox and it brought out the den. In that case, the dogs don't want go back t
  13. It's impossible to hunt with the really sharp. 4H champions are just for exhibition.
  14. Try it ! 350 dogs in the same pack, for wild boar. They don't use all the dogs in the same time, may be the half.
  15. Thanks nebot1400, i'm very pleased to read you. The European badger is able to dig quickly too (when the soil isn't too hard). In french we say "contre-terrage" (soil counteract ?). The black dog on the video had done a great work, according to me, Biting the ass and barking the face. By this way, badger keep face to face with the dog and he can't dig further. And when the dog is barking you can locate him. If the dog is barking the ass, badger can dig easily. If the dog is biting the face, you can't heard anything and the vet is the real winner (in the better case) ! Your dog cou
  16. I know a man who is payed to search foxes, badgers and rabbits on railway lines. He's working for SNCF. He use some little teckels with locators. But i don't how he does. Firstly, use the rods. Two possibilities for me : The best is to own a very cautious dog, but very inquisitive. It's able to search and hunt a moment but you can call this dog and it come back. This kind of dog is very precious. Some could think they aren't good terrier dogs, but in that particular case, they are great. With such a dog, you can catch near the railway line or leave with the dog. The fo
  17. We have our own problems too. We have no driven large game hunting like you, all large game stalking is difficult to get into and it is illegal to hunt most thing with dogs................... can you beat that? I hope it will be for a very long time, it's our way of life. English are devotee so much to hunting dogs, it's sad to be limited.
  18. At the beginning, this way of hunting come from a security rule. 500.000 boars are hunted each year in france, french hunters are a bit mad with wild boars. The great part of wild boars are killed during driven hunts, with a important number of rifles and lot of dogs. During a driven hunt, we have two groups of hunter : "postés" (fixed) who are waiting for animals and "traqueurs" who are moving with dogs through the forest. To improve security, some team have banned rifles for the "traqueurs", inside the driven hunt. So, to save their dogs in case of fight, they use spears.
  19. We have our own problems too.
  20. These spears are used on red deer or boar at the end of huntings with hounds (chasse à courre). you can easily disassemble them and it's on the horse near the saddle.
