The further week-end will be the big one. Three days of hunting badgers in Champagne, five crews joined saturday for a good time. And some fanfares the evening, a lot of songs during the night. It could be a bit difficult Sunday morning.

It isn't so interresting than badger because coypus go fairly quicly to the bottom. But coypus are noisy and very clever in water. -

and sometimes conversely When you decide to go for a hunt abroad, there is always "a grass is greener attitude". That's the optimistic from whom is travelling. If you haven't this spirit, you stay at home. some facts : - french hunters are allowed to hunt badger from may to january in the most part of the country, - the french way of digging is different than the english manner (no locators, hunting with crew...), so it's difficult to dig out in france the english way, - hunting is a pleasure, some humans like to share, some other don't share. - You can't pay for hunting trip organize -
Hunting With Plummer Terrier In France

Just an advice : try to go with some french hunters, it's difficult to hunt alone because laws are very different. July is the middle of the badger hunting season. If you are on the land of your family, you can dig alone coypus without problem even if you haven't any hunting license. According to me, we haven't a lot of rats in France and ratting is very uncommon. -

Badgers can be hunted all over France between september and january (except Bas- Rhin and haut Rhin). Between may and september, badgers can be hunted in the great part of departments. -

In France, everybody isn't authorized to hunt badgers. You must have : - hunting license - certificat de vènerie (abilities to hunt under ground with tools delivered by AFEVST) - attestation de meute (attestation proving that you own at least 3 earth dogs able to hunt delivered by State) - allowed by the land-owner. Usually we hunt in crew, 3 to 8 hunters. We have often some onlookers, it's a good time between few guys. Locator is forbidden to hunt in France, but the crews have the skill to hunt like the olders, without electronic. Some are using the locator despite the ban.

It's the problem when you need to prove that the game is vermin, then your hunt appear like a useful activity. You hunt because the animals are unwanted, with hate. The game is often insulted. But when badger is a legal game, you can hunt it without hate, for the fun and with respect. You don't insulte the game. I hope it will be possible here for a long time.

A nice day for hunting, two badgers have been catched on two different places. Easy to dig out, in the forest.

Yes i go to hunt with my two sons today. We'll hunt this morning with another crew named Rallye Poil Dur. They work with teckels (poil dur = rough hair). Go on, have a good time.

What a debate ! We are very cautious concerning badger populations here. If you hunt to much, population can decrease. In some areas, badger hunters are numerous. So, they release a part of badgers. Hunter and responsible. Some have claimed that hunting was a great stress for badgers and that, after a hunt badgers were very wounded. If you have some experience, you know it's wrong. But a badger is learning quickly. Badgers hunted several times become difficult to hunt.

I don't know exactly what do you mean by "mix", it means to bite ? If it means to bite, they are more barkers than mixers. Betty, the left one on the pic, is my best jack (10 badgers in 5 hunts this season without any serious injury). Her weight 4,5 kg, so she can't be fighting directly with the badger for a long time. She hunts the badger very close, few centimetres and she barks. Sometimes, some jack try to struggle with the badger. I don't like it because generally badger is the first winner and the vet the second winner.

In France we are using the same letter for naming hounds. G for 2011, H for 2012, I for 2013... Some letters aren't used. And you can hear some strange conversations concerning dogs : "I have a lot of B in my pack, a few V, the G not too bad start and I think add a pair of H in the fall."
