Does anyone hunt with old/vintage rifles and open sights
Grayling replied to Grayling's topic in Airgun Hunting
Hello again Simon, the Mastersport was an aftermarket tuneup and Walnut restock by I think Airmasters they did a HW77 Mastersport as well. I've only actually ever held 3, but they do handle and shoot like a dream. They fetch mega bucks now though when you can find one for sale, which isn't very often. They really are pretty rifles. Try doing a Google search, Danny Garvin has a few nice piccies on there, but I can get some photo's of my mates Mastersport if you really want to see one. I bought my Venom in April 83 from Venom themselves at their newly opened Gun Barrel industrial estate sho -
Whats lightest best scope for HW100T?
Grayling replied to welshpoacher's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Thats what I've got mounted on my HW100, certainly ticks all the boxes in my opinion. -

That looks awesome, well done . -
Got to agree with you, excellent piece of kit although I don't find them heavy. I do think they have the best most reliable magazine cycling system of any PCP and can't be double cycled, with a pretty much unbreakable 14 shot magazine. Industry standard silencer, brilliant safety catch, if you can apply the safety catch its loaded, if you can't it isn't. At £760 its way cheaper than Theoben which are on a par quality wise, totally out classes the Daystate Huntsman, is way better than the AA410 or Air Arms unashamed copy the AA510. It can also be fitted with a single shot pop out mag if needed

I am a big fan of the HW100 IMHO they are without equal for the price, whoever designed it just had to be a hunter. I am hoping that Weihrauch eventually add a take down model similar to the AA 410 Take Down Rifle to their range. I liked that folding butt 100 with the buddy bottle, certainly different. Early in the new year I am having an adjustable cheek piece, Rosewood shnabel forend and adjustable shoulder pad fitted to my HW100. It'll be off the road for two weeks but it'll be worth it.

Hiya Simon, nay probs mate got you the first time, each to his own hey . Luckily my eyes are quite good given they are vintage too . Like someone on a later post added I to think everyone should start with springers and open sights because thats how I started too . I'm interested in the Tasco ''Moonlighter'' I don't remember that one and have just trawled through my collection of old airgun mags from the late 70's up to the late 's and couldn't find that term used on Tasco's anywhere, gotta be pretty rare that one. I still have two Optima Super Moonlighters 3-9x56 the early version and the -

I've heard similar views to yours pretty often and I respect your opinion, but I feel that as pointed out in the O/P as long as the hunter knows his limitations and that of his rifle then clean kills are not a problem. Like you highlighted there is a need with any hunting kit to put as much range time (practice) in as possible, so the shooter can put his round exactly where he wants it when it counts. If a hunter cannot do this with any rifle scoped or unscoped he should not be hunting in the first place. The first weapon of any kind I ever saw or held was a 1907 Lincoln Jefferies/BSA Mod -

To be honest Lloyd (BAR) and bargains are not often seen in the same sentence are they , but it would need to be in absolute mint condition at that price. I have 10 vintage BSA's now, well actually8 and 2 German copies . None are in mint condition but all have pleasing age patina's. The most I've paid is £100 the least £10. Its the spare parts that are hard to come by these days. There are still plenty of reasonable priced examples round though. They are very simple but extremely pointable aren't they . I just luv em. -
Wow, didn't know that, I do remember back in the late 70's I often walked from my mothers house in Liverpool with my old Sussex Armoury Jackal Hi-Power slung over my shoulder to the local allotment gardens where my first ever pest control permission, where I kept Rat and Feral Pigeon numbers in check for the plot owners. The local beat Bobbie back then would often join me in the ''plots'' and kill a few cans, nothing was ever said, by any one re my unsleeved Jackal. I wouldn't dream of attempting that now though.

I have read the full thread now and think you have made a good scope choice, the Mamba is a cracking scope with good spec and MTC's after care and customer services are second to none. I may be slightly biased because Gaz and Sammie Cooper are good friends but I do not think you'll regret your purchase.

I can't see a problem as long as the rifle is in its gunbag with no magazine fitted or the rifle actually loaded.

I have a 1919 BSA no 2 standard (.22) still pushing 10.4 ftlbs with proper Eley Wasps, this 93 year old underlever is still a joy to use and shoot and although made just after WW1 its still a more than viable hunting tool if used at reasonable/sensible ranges (around 25 yards max), certainly for Grey Squirrels where the ranges are normally between 10yds to 20yds max. Although stalking Rabbits is a wee bit more difficult, not impossible but thats more down to having a leg full of titanium, attached to a 51 year old carcase than any fault of the rifles . Using this lovely old piece of kit reall

Got to admit I would've kept the AA410, I've had a Huntsman and just couldn't get on with it. But I've had an AA410 since they first came out and its been a cracking rifle. Eldest sprog has it now and he has done really well with it too. Whereas I kept the Huntsman for about 6 weeks then part exchanged it for a HW100 .177 best move I've ever made. But when all said and done, its what you think that matters.

You never said what you intended to use your scope for or what rifle you intended using it on but the following scopes fit most uses and are perfect for those of us with Champagne taste but beer money . The MTC fixed mag 10x44 Viper is a lot of scope for your money and comes with sunshade, flip ups, mounts, Its ideal for HFT. The MTC Mamba lite is also a cracking scope and variable power, ideal for air rifle hunting.

I love Woodpigeon breast and eat any I shoot, pan fried in a little salted butter and soaked in Soya Sauce then put onto hot buttered wholemeal toast. Although I cannot stand the taste or smell of Rabbit, who ever reckons they taste like chicken either hasn't eaten chicken or hasn't tasted Rabbit. Give me fresh Brown Trout cooked straight from the water, wrapped in silver foil with only herbs and butter added anyday.

Fort Air Rifle Club will be holding round 1 of the Troops Trophy 2012/13 at their Gweryd lakes shooting ground on the 18th November 2012. As before this will be in an effort to raise money to fund further parcels out to British Troops in Afghanistan. The last series of comps at Fort, Rivington, Tawd Vale and Oldham was an outstanding success raising over £5000, which funded 1100 plus morale parcels out to our soldiers serving in Afghanistan. We are expecting troops from the 1st Battalion Royal Welch fusiliers to join us on the day, these lad from the units Fire Support Group are due back in th

Morale Parcels to the Royal Marines thanks to THL forum
Grayling replied to Grayling's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Thanks for the replies lads . Once I get the hang of this forum I'll start posting the contents of these bluey's (service letters) ommitting any personal or operational details of course. I am an ex squaddie myself and remember only to well anything from home was eagerly looked forward to and we weren't getting sniped at. Myself and Cliff have built up a good relationship with a lot of the British military units serving in Afghan, to the extent that these units quite often contact us by bluey or sat phone to tell us exactly what they want added to the next delivery. For instance 16 Air Assaul -
After Dave and Si invited my son and I to your THL on Sunday 7th October, it was a fair old hike from our Wirral home, but what a cracking day we had. We met some top guys, took part in one of the most enjoyable and easy going HFT comps I've shot in a long time. Beautiful weather, lovely scenery, good company, is there more ?? Well yes thanks to your forum a whole lot more. To top off a brilliant day, the members of this forum had raised an assounding £1100 for our organisation Treats 4 British Troops to help us fund more morale parcels out to British Troops on operational tours of Afghani
