  1. i was worried about the same thing when i applied for mine, when i was a kid i was a little naughty but now 20 yrs on have 4 kids and when i explained and put down on paper my feo wasnt bothered at all, what he said is if you got caught being a happy drunk 6 months back he would give you a ticking of and laugh at me, if i was an aggressive drunk then chances are i wouldnt be getting sgc.. also time inside would would effect my chances, drug and alcohol related incidences, violence etc Just be honest mate or give them a ring before you apply and lay the cards on the table i was surprised how
  2. years back used to have a crossman ratter rifle, 10 pumps and about 10 ft lbs, put 5 ball bearings in and a wad and shoot like a shotgun, only problem was even ratting out to 20 yards was still a hit and miss, for hunting rabbits was ok out to 25 yards then the almighty clank clank clank 10 times to pump up .... was nice and light, no recoil but was noisy when pumping so only ended up as a plinking rifle or to teach the kids safetty and shooting as was so light... all the best steve
  3. one more thing is i have .22 for daytime shooting a hw80, beginning of the year i bought a hw100 .177 which gave me a bit more leeway due to a more forgiving trajectory, now im not one for wanting to start a debate which calbre is best or not, just that out to 50 yards when pitch black dark, for me .177 and distance judging made my life a fair bit easier and improved my kill rate, nothing worse when hearing a squeeling bunny and you cant see the damn thing in the dark.... all the best steve p.s i know some people who do very well with .22's when markers are out, but sometimes i dont hav
  4. easiest way mate is to know the land, find out where they are in daylight then peg out markers at 10yrds, before every trip have a quick site up to make sure scopes not been knocked, get sat in hedge before dark,as already been said make sure winds in your face so blowing your scent behind you and wait, not to bright a lamp and some are ok with white but soon get lamp shy i prefer red but others like green, your choice, every 5 mins when dark have a quick flick around to see whats about and if you see anything and in the right position use your markers to count of and get range. You said
  5. looks good mate, done the same to mine, rough job though as dont think bunnies etc will be judging and easy to take of and dry if it gets soaked..... keep thinking about trying a diy paint job...............all the best steve
  6. hello again buddy, feo told me theres no problems with sgc application and was told it should be with me beginning this week, but so far no luck :-( will keep an eye on this thread and get back to you if it gets here in time :-) all the best steve
  7. we got 3 and handled them ok, once we bought them home they started biting, turns out they was loused out with fleas, spot on and then used ferret paste, once it was out of them they never bit again... good luck
  8. nice bag mate, just out of curiosity what do you do with them? leave out for charlie and head back later... black bin or what? reason im asking is as an air rifle hunter and moving to sgc and hopefully coming through post next week im just trying to get as much info as possible.... all the best steve
  9. years back in my woods maggies used to chase me out, was a waste of time trying for the rabbit warrens as they always made to much noise, anyways an old timer told me a little a trick and that was get yourself well hidden, throw a carcass out so its in range then start rattling half a box of matches... obviously i was polite and thanked him for the advise but deep down thought * yeh like thats going to work *... anyways a few outings later on same perm and 3 maggies surrounded me yet again so no bunnies, by that time i was getting pretty tired of maggies and from another perm threw a slit open
  10. my feo wasnt bothered about cartridges or where they would be kept, although i do have a van safe for laptops to lock them away in and he just replied... thats overkill could of been kept on wardrobe............... now with a 16yr old down to a 4 yr old i remember when i was young what i got upto hehe, good luck as down the line once feo is on my side il put in for a .17 also
  11. hi i read others experience and when feo came round it was completely different, i was allowed in loft, i was allowed on internal wall.... just waiting to see if sgc goes through and thats where it will be going, all he said was make sure it has 4 decent size bolts... m10 raw bolts, as it would be near unused chimney breast i also said about a couple there and he was more than happy so i guess its down to what county and what feo mate and the biggest surprise was he advised me to get a cheap 20quid electronic safe from b and q to store my key in hmmmmmm why go to the bother of expensive gunsa
  12. i bought a bratton diy gunsafe for my air rifles, said it was for 5 rifles.... with scopes i could only fit 2 in, not to bothered now as going for sgc and got my eyes on a 7/9 scoped cabinet, just dont tell the missus lol
  13. Hi, i never used a bipod before so went for a cheap one of the bay just to see if i like it, was only about 25 quid and seemed pretty well built but after a few outings i found a few niggles, one was that when i had the legs up the spring catch hit the stock and legs flapped about in the wind making a noise and also it feels like its working loose..... the other things is i got a 6-9 fixed and now would like the next size up and swivel...... i cant complain for the price as its a learning curve for me but once funds allow il be buying a better made branded version..... all the best steve
  14. many years back the first pigeon i shot i took the breast of and flash fried with a pinch of garlic and ate out the pan, was bootiful, nearest thing i can think of was beer with sugar sprinkled on it, cant wait for sgc to come through and get freezer full of them, but they do seem to be on steroids this year for some reason... around here theres been a few problems with the crop falling farmer thinks either to much rain or a problem with pests.. either way could be alot of extra food on the ground from them just a thought mole ... all the best steve
  15. thanks for the warm welcome guys :-)
  16. saltwater overnight to con the kids and say its chicken and roast, or roasted but covered in fattest bacon you can find.. yummy
  17. i used to use hollowpoints in sub .22 for ratting and domed for 20 yards + , this was going back 20 years ago and one day ran out of hollowpoints so used domes and coudnt tell the difference so from then on only bought domes for hunting, for me its more about getting the best pellet for the barrel and hitting the right spot and know yours and your rifles limit, all the best steve
  18. What can i say, my names steve and been into airguns since i was knee high to a grasshopper, my dad,mum and brother all shot.... so far own a weirauch hw80,hw85 and hw100 fsb tk, ive never felt the need for a powder burner untill now, so recently applied for sgc under my perms advise and seems to be going through well and feo has no reason why i shouldnt get through the post in the next few weeks, just made myself a cuppa and now going to have a good read :-) all the best steve
