    That's true agree with you both, and do people still find lurchers bred by him to train on as well?

    I was kind of wondering if there a similarities to horse racing- having worked in racing I know that you can have a fantastic dam and sire, spending hundreds of thousands on a stud fee and the progeny is plain useless! And vice versa. Although of course some of that can be down to who trains the horse and other factors... But I'm sure the same must happen with dogs, cracking working parents and a pup that is a failure..? Just interested to hear your responses and views on this subject

    Just something I was thinking about earlier that interested me... if you wanted a 'working lurcher' would you only get a pup bred from working parents? Or would you buy from a pet home ( bred from parents that have never worked) and get a puppy to train as a worker. Would people buy a pup even though only one (or even neither) parent was a worker? Would a good temperament and the fact that parents were a nice stamp of dog be enough for you to get the pup? Sorry if I haven't explained very well, can't word it how I want!

    Very true, I am careful not to over exercise him even. I'm lucky that he can run round the farm most of the time and do as much as he likes/need. He has freedom but I take him out round the fields and woods for a change. He is my pet more than anything, just want some training before he becomes a menace to neighboring farmers etc

    He is so lovely- looks like one to be really proud of! I love the Saluki X's obviously I am biased though!

    Thank you, he is Saluki X Collie/beddy/grey and is 22in tts, imagine he will reach about 26. I will only go easy with him, in no rush as I'm a beginner. Just want basic training really and see what happens later in the year

    Ah ok! Someone told me they saw some for £20! Seems a bit steep! He retrieved on both times of asking this morning ( I used his favourite soft toy!), he did a lap of honour before dropping it at my feet but that's fine for now so I gave him plenty of fuss and left it

    Thanks for your advice! Yes I am hoping to get lots of advice as am new to all this- usually hunt on horseback! Lol

    Thank you for your advice, yes retrieving in a more enclosed space makes sense, he seemed to just be a little distracted earlier! Just out of interest, why don't you use a rabbit dummy?

    A few photos from my walk with my pup Toby ( I know I posted some the other day but oh well!) I took my pup Toby for a walk out today, I am trying to make sure that all the basics are in place at the moment, he can be a bit cheeky at times, looking at me when I call him and then proceeding to wander off, so I really need to get the recall spot on. He is good at sitting, waiting and coming to me. He is happy to pop over small obstacles, post and rail and ditches.     Thank you all. He is Saluki x Bedlington/Collie/greyhound mix. Yes he is getting much lighter now and all his black is fading away. He is a lovely character to have around, laid back, friendly and trainable Not sure of his height atm but am expecting him to make 26-28in based on the size of the parents. He has enormous paws thats for sure!

    Thank you, he's my first lurcher pup and I only started to get into the idea of working when I got him- so no previous experience! But if I can just work on the basics for now and let him mature I will see what happens next year.
