I thought Darcy would've popped back on with some answers. No one that's said they were easy has offered any explanation as to why.HAW HAW HAW oooooooohhhhhh FFs that's quality  cheered me up that did I reckon that he's currently writing another book where all will be revealed, I might offer him a couple of quid for him to explain why he thinks Sika are the easiest of all the deer. I'm curious, I never had a chance to run them but I did run other species, I find it a bit unusual that a deer of that size would be slower or have less fight in it than a CWD. when u find some u will

How's that? I stated quite clearly that I'd never ran Sika so was unsure as to why people said they were easy. What's silly about that? You come on, make a stupid comment in an attempt to ridicule people but add nothing more. If you have this vast knowledge and experience maybe you could use it to qualify some of your scoffing. It doesn't seem to me that you've actually got any answers. If you read back, you've answered nothing and just posting comments trying to make yourself sound better. That smacks of insecurity, probably bought on by a lack of real world knowledge and a transparent attemp

I can't say really as we never even got close to killing one. Excercised plenty but the dogs just sat in there slipstream. These dogs were good strong fallow killers but them beasts are a whole new ball-game ... So do you think they throw towards the Red or do you think they're faster due to "Hybrid Vigour"?

I've never found any of mine slow to mature. I don't run my dogs until they're 9 months plus and then it's only easy stuff for them. My dogs are out with me everyday and everywhere I go, fishing shooting, mooching from the moment they can get out, they see loads of stuff before they ever get to chase it. A lot of people who tell you that they are slow to mature haven't actually owned one or don't put the work in. My dogs have been doing everything I need them to by 18 months.

heres one for you Was that easy?? No ones answered yet!!!!!

Anyone know the answer? i've never run sika with dogs but used to handle a lot when i worked with park deer and they will fight for sure, even the does will try to bite you once you get them caught up! i ran a lot of CWD with dogs and i never saw one that had any kind of fight in it, used to squeak and wriggle a bit, but most of them just lay down and waited to die. so i guess folks who say that sika are easiest are talking speedwise, because some of those CWD run like they've got a rocket up their arse I've never run Sika either but have CWD. I'm surprised that people say that Sika are the

Dogs see a lot better at night than we do, they have no problem getting stuck in when it's dark.
-
So Sika are easier than CWD? Speed wise or fight wise?

Another thing that people are forgetting is regional differences. The does in the South can be as big as the bucks in the North.

Any Pictures Of Gsdxg Or Gsdxlurchers
kranky replied to blackgreyhound's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Just out of interest, where did this dog hunt Barasingha? What's the story behind the Pere David? -
There is a misconception that only bucks resist a dog and does just lie down and die. A full grown fallow doe will use all its weight and strength to escape. A does defenses are on each corner and she with fire those sharp hoofed feet out with full force. A few kicks to the chest and head can shake even the most determined dog.
-
Fallow are bigger than whitetails. My experience of whitetails is Ontario ones.
-
Dan will have Whitetail deer and big ones at that.

But arnt all dogs mongrels in a sence ?? A result of cross breeding / in breeding and line breeding to bring out the desirable characterristics that the breeder is looking to achieve. If you can give proof of so many generations and good account of what's coming out of each litter like the type and even down to the colour say the likes of labs / rotties / dobbies / Dalmatians ect or say the variation in colours with the likes of whippets / staffs / greyhounds ect The labradoddle or other x breeds that can be be defined by 3 or 4 things could be defined as a breed and in some cases even

Bucks are much faster too. The good ones are well when they run that is. That's true, I think I posted that earlier in this thread. I've had dogs straight lined by bucks. You can always tell the bucks as they'll run through the does and leave them behind. There's no chivalry in deer society. There's a lot of big well built dogs that can drag a fallow buck down singlehanded but those same dogs haven't got the pace or wind to catch a geriatric doe. The test for those dogs is the actual catching. Does would be a test for them. That's my point.
-
A lot of people are talking about does not being a test for a dog. I never chuck my dogs out of a motor, all my runs were walked up with big long slips. Buck or doe your dogs still got to catch it.
-
If I could have chose to only slip on bucks I probably still would've slipped on does as well. 200 yard slips were the norm and the dogs could make that ground up. Driving around the country looking for bucks to slip on isn't what I do. Maybe I'm lazy, maybe I don't like people who speak with regional accents. I'd rather put some gear in front of my dog than wait for half a dozen slips per year when it all falls in to place. Who hasn't slipped there dog at a solitary buck stood in knee high grass and watched as the dog neared and 8 does stood up from being bedded down at the bucks feet. If y

Great! I'm a little in awe of your dog training skills. It's no mean feat, breaking a dog to does and youngsters.
-
So you've run plenty then? And you've had dogs that you trained to run past the does and yearlings to catch up with the bucks leading the charge? Or you've ignored the herds that fallow were in and gone out searching for the solitary bucks or the young bucks that hang about in 2's and 3's? Or you need to have a strong coffee and wake up from your dreams? Which is it?
