  1. if most of your shooting is around the 100 meter mark and you can use moderators why not try the 44 mag or 45/70 loaded at sub sonic levels? there both very good deer stoppers.
  2. the riflescopestore is a rip off on zeiss scopes. ive got 3 zeiss scopes from the optic zone they will post scopes to most countrys. they only stock a few brands but are very cheap and good to deal with http://theopticzone.com/searchresult.aspx?CategoryID=77 all there zeiss scopes are $100 some $200 cheaper than the riflescopestore
  3. ive got one in 243 had it just over 12 months now and put over 1000 rounds through it. it shoots hand loads from 55 to 100gr all under 3/4 moa when loaded right. im about to give some 105gr amax a try. the ajustible cheeck rest makes a big difference with the 50mm objectives. i lightened the trigger off on mine from the factory settings its easy done with an allen key. so far theres been no disslikes with it i like a heavy gun and find them easyer to shoot off hand than a light weight gun
  4. i would never kennel bitches or dogs together if it could be helped. anyone that says bitches are fine pened together or dogs together are asking for trouble. ive seen sisters kill each other, brothers flog the piss out of each other, grandmothers and granddaughts go at it. non of the fights were over food either, fights over food are nothing normaly one dog backs down real quick its when they fight to be pack leader that they go to the death given the chance. it might be fine for 4 or 5 years then when it happens without warning it gets very messy. ive got a bitch at the vets now that was pac
  5. i had a rabbit swim out into a dam made it about 5 meters dog caught it bought it to the bank sat it down to shake the water off, the rabbit jumped back in the dam she went and got it and the same thing happened again. the third time she didnt bother to sit it down befor shaking
  6. fjager the 6.5 is getting harder and more expencive to get bullets for here a bloke i was talking to the other day that only shoots factorys said the last 12 months they have gone up and a few times hes gone to get them even the bigger gun stores havent had any on the shelf. just somehting to consider
  7. ive had about 220 or 230 for the year with gun and dogs off about 4000 acers. 3 different nights over winter i got 25, 23 and 22. last year i shot 24 of 400 acers in a week, 11 in the first outting with the 22lr and the rest with a 22 250 5 days later. i know a hound crew that got close to 500 this year and we do some of the same propertys. they were getting 20 plus most days they went out at the start of the year
  8. i had a JR that was a prick for going down wombat holes. he lasted 15 years giving them hell all the time and only got knocked out once when he was 12 it didnt stop him tho. it not something i ever encouraged him to do or wanted him to do when i got him at 12 months old he already had the habbit and i could never break it. i never tryed to hard either. he was always left to roam free over our 1000 acre farm he would often bugger off for the day and come back covered in clay from battling the bats all day underground. he lost all his teeth trying to chew on there thick skin. he used to be able
  9. im down the bottom of vic, steve. lots of small dairy farms were you need all the speed and turn you can get out of a dog. heres the male out of the same litter as the other 2 i kept.
  10. i run a few saluki x stags and i can see them becoming alot more popular to. they make a far better dedacated fox dog than most of the straight stags getting around because they are smaller and quicker off the mark. you see alot of stags have whippet in them to for the same reason it just adds that extra little somehting special to them.
  11. i had this bitch for about 3 or 4 years. im not sure how much wolfhould was in her or what else was in there. she was one of the hardest dogs ive seen she never gave a shit about were she gradeb a fox or how much of a chewing she coped of it but she was to big and heavy to be a good fox dog.
  12. blb im the salukis 3rd owner she was bred in tassy and i got her when she was about 2 or 3yo shes an alright fox dog not great tho after about 3 or 4 foxs she gets soft. i dont run her much anymore now as she has broken her leg twice chasing deer. she has a very light frame she 24" and 22 kg were as my deer x grey is 24" 33 kg. she the only one ive ever seen any were here and im thinking about looking for a male bred the same as they have alot of good trats. i kept 4 of the pups for 12 months and got them all hunting then sold 1 of the bitches that ended up being about 28" or 29" and kept 2 bi
  13. this is there son he had great straight line speed but couldnt stick to the smaller dogs on the turns i bred him with a salukix greyhound bitch and got some great pups. some turned out to big for what i want but one of the bitch pups is probly the fastest dog i have seen run shes a realy smart handy dog
  14. here are a few pics of my deerhound and my deer xs that i had/have. they take alot longer to wind up and catch hairy bull thats the main reason i went away from them.
  15. if your just after foxs and not worried about skippys i think you have gone backwards i had a pure deer male, a 3/4 deer X grey male and a 1/2 cross bitch. the 2 males were good if there was alot of room or i was after the big stuff but when it came to just foxs on the small dairy farm paddocks they just couldnt do it to my liking. when either of them did get hold of a fox you got to see just how powerful they were but the just never caught fast enough for me. the deer/ saluki/grey pups i breed from them have got a good mix of it all. they nail most foxs in the first 50 meters and have the po
  16. tone dog the only way any pig dog cross would catch a deer is if you flew up beside the deer in a ute and though the dog of the ute onto the deers back. theres a BIG difference between your dog getting close to them and actualy catching them i bet the deer arnt even running flat out they will still have a few gears left that they wont use until they realy need them. ive only taken a few deer with my staghounds and ive missed a heap were the dog just gets a grip but the deers weight and momentim pulls them free and the dog doesnt get another look in as they dont get anymore than 150 meters to n
  17. im from australia. were still aloud to have fun here
  18. i bred a litter 12 months ago like this the sire was 3/4 deer 1/4 grey and the dame 1/2 sal 1/2 grey. 2 of the pups i kept out of the litter are going realy well and have started taking foxs the smaller ones in the litter matured realy quick and started catching rabbits at 5 months. so far they seem to be realy good dogs and have alot going for them. 2 through heavy to the deerhound side and ended up to big for my liking tho
  19. Whats not sporting about shooting foxs? i dont see the difference between the 2. i shoot and dog alot of foxs each year. last year i shot 22 foxs of one 400 acre property in 2 trips 2 weeks apart, 12 the first trip just with a 22lr.i then went on to dog and shoot another 20 foxs of it by the end of the year. both ways are equaly as challenging and fun. this last week i doged 4 foxs with my 12mo pup im starting and went out saturday night and split 6 fox heads open with my new T3 super varmint in .243. just kill the fuckers any way you can. there big healthy foxs you got there conor well done
  20. that dog of yours looks exactily the same as my 3/4 deer grey marco there about the same age to mines doing well on the foxs and has taken the odd rabbit but i dont have him for rabbits ive got a 1/2 x sal grey for that and a 1/2 cross deer grey that is very good on them to. ive got 4 running dogs and the only one that i would class as a good alrounder is the 1/2 deer grey. different crosses are best at different things there isnt one breed out there that is better than every other breed at all game only a fool would think that. ive just crossed the 3/4 deer to the sal to get a bit more of
  21. how can it be a "roo dog" when it has a rough coat and so do both its parents dis?
  22. ive got a half x sal/gery bitch 24" 20kg a half x deer/grey bitch 24" 32kg and a 3/4 deer 1/4 grey male 30" 38kg and there 3 complety different dogs to run. in a srtaight line the big deer male wins easy but as soon as they start turning the sal kills them. the male just distroys big game over here all night every night no matter what but is a waste of time behind a rabbit. the deer bitch is a realy good allrounder very smart and never gives up. the sal is a fantastic rabbit dog and gives it 100% on foxs and other game but she just doesnt have the strengh to back it up and will only handle o
  23. i had my sal/gery and my 14 month old deer cross out for a run saturday night and came across this fox right out in the open so i let the deer cross have a run by himself. when he got about 40 meters from the fox it started to run away and was limping pretty badly so the dog cleaned it up very easy. when i got there i had a good look to see what was wrong with it and its front leg was busted pretty bad around the elbow and was broken in atleast 3 spots but that was the least of its problems. its bottom jaw had no teeth or gums connected to it and all the front teeth in the top jaw were gone it
  24. it is slow dis for a few reasons. it takes them a very long to to wind up to that sort of speed they dont hold it for very long at all and they cant turn at that speed. most dogs will sit on 55 kph for quiet some distence too. i know blokes in big paddocks that give there dogs 500 meters slips on roos when there only after one in the mob so it doesnt matter how buggered the dog is after it. the old smart foxes are a very hard thing for a dog to get its teeth around at times too when they have a fence or something similar to run the dog around
