The visiting guns love all the tradition . It’s all part of it , the clothes the guns . It all looks like a scene from Downton Abbey. I suppose it is a throwback to a time that is long gone where there was more of a class divide . Formal driven shooting still has the same rules and etiquette it always had . Which is a lot of the appeal. Every shoot I have ever been involved with has the rules and discipline and sportsmanship, which are rare in todays world . Keep the traditions going , because when they have gone , they will be gone forever and our countryside will just b

I like the cable tie idea . First class . ? -
The Forest of Dean near me is over run with them . I’ve been invited a couple of times but I’ve been too busy . It’s a bit like deer shooting to me , I can take it or leave it . But I will get around to it sometime. I was given one last year and had if turned into bacon and sausages . And bloody good they were too . So for no other reason than to get one in the freezer , I will be out for one .

Hope all goes well Stavross. Have a memorable day , and when you find time share a write up . For my part I’ve been busy loading. I managed 5 day’s loading at three different shoots. I’ve now got a wealthy shooter who wants me to accompany him grouse shooting next season . So things are looking up . I have been rubbing shoulders with Spanish royalty and multi millionaire types from the world over . They come here in their private jets and helicopters . They eat fancy food and drink fancy drinks . But they don’t have a better time than the shooters like us who go about our sport

I bought some Stilton from a Christmas market that is running at a famous stately home where I go loading. We all go and have a look around at lunchtime, I went back to the stall I bought the cheese from and said “ that cheese you sold me yesterday was mouldy “!! The face on her , some people have no sense of humour. ?

Let’s hope so Aled . But it’s going to mean digging deeper and shooting less . A mate of mine who ran a small shoot for the last 27 years pulled the plug this season . He asked the guns for more money , and they said no . The commercial shoots will be asking for guns to pay for shooting up front , with no guarantees . Why should they bear the whole financial burden? I can’t see there being “ bargains “ on “ Guns on pegs” next year . Hopefully the small shoot with modest bags will still be around. I wonder how some of the farmers who have been used to getting a cash injection

I’m going to put a different point of view across. Shooting has it pretty good in this country. I do a bit of loading on various estates . I meet sportsmen/ shooters from all over the world . They flock here to shoot pheasant, duck , partridge, grouse , geese, hunt various species of deer .And fish for Salmon and trout . No restrictions on numbers. Landowners can do what they want . In America you have tags and complicated rules on what you can release. Holland is practically a hunting free zone . France you have to do a competency test . I know a sporting agent who was tellin

The shoot we go to Tim has it and the last shoot day I was on there had a very “ end of season “ feel to it. The numbers are way down on what should be there and the keeper looks gutted . I feel for him as it’s out of his hands , all that hard work . I could say a few things about some shoots and the reality of what is actually happening. But this season has been difficult from the outset . The unavailability of birds from France has meant that a lot of substandard poor birds have been released this year and now the “ chickens have come home to roost “. Don’t believe everyth

Tim I know you personally and I enjoy your company. We are similar age’s but I’m kind of new to Forums , and this is the only social media that I contribute to . I get that you like a laugh , and so do I . But when you and Foxhunter were having a laugh in the thread with Bernard is was a bit uncomfortable, I thought, “I don’t think Sausage is enjoying it”. There are some people who relish a good old “ding dong “ and I get that , but some don’t. You know the guys on here that don’t do “hardcore banter”. Cut them a break . Let’s keep the rifle section “ friendly and cordial . If you want let off

I am always interested in Sausage dogs posts . I didn’t always agree with him on some things , but respected his opinions. I just don’t get this negative “banter”. I personally don’t care if you are out every night or once a year , it’s not my business. We are all on here because we share a common interest . Most men aren’t professional footballers, but go to any pub and it’s all people talk about . I also enjoy Foxhunters posts . I would like him to continue to share his “ hunting “ experiences. Can everyone remember how this section used to be ? It was friendl

55 is a good number. The ones that escaped will be there for another day . You don’t like port Stavross? Port and Sloe gin are the cornerstone of any good shooting man’s fluid intake . I suggest you go to the offie , buy a bottle of Cockburns or Taylor’s, lock yourself in with it until you do start to like it . Bloody youngster ?

Roger isn’t at Blunsden , he’s near Fairford . I’m at Brimpsfield tomorrow, I will get some numbers. ?
-
At this time of year the game dealers are picking up from shoots all over the country. Lincolnshire game used to pick up from Brimps , I think they still do . Have a ring around the likes of Willow and see if they are picking up near you . Alternatively Roger Hicks at Whelford near Fairford , only the other side of Swindon from you . I can PM you his number if you want .

I’ve got Ben down as more of a “ Banjo player “.
-
I will ask , he can only say no .
-
Shame , it’s a good crack . Your mate Whale’y has been loading with us . He has us in stitches.
-
Nice one Tim . Just seen that you won’t make Brimps this season .

I’m sorry to hear of the negative experience’s you have had with your son . Being disabled is tough enough without ignorant idiots compounding your problems. I can’t imagine how that would make you or your boy feel . Let’s hope nothing happens to them to put them in a wheelchair.?
