  1. Not the best photo, took it from above, makes his legs look short. He's 17''
  2. Ive already explained on previous threads that my toy lurcher is a f****n machine. He'll be on badger, fox and deer in no time
  3. Even a toy lurcher? and what a toy lurcher one you wind up ? a whippet x yorkie chihuahua
  4. Where in Kent are you mate? Gravesend mate. Theres nowhere round here really, gonna have to travel to medway area as thats where my mates permission is. Where in kent you based?v You got much experience working dogs in kent?
  5. yea still getting him fit. giving him 2 hours free running an mouching every week night and about 4 each day at the weekend. Hopefully he'll be in a half decent shape for his first go at lamping next weekend. Gonna give him a good go on some squaters and see how he gets on
  6. Wondered peoples opinions on the best type of dog for lamping rabbits? Getting a bitch pup sometime around xmas and seeing as bunnies are the only legal game, they're all I'm really intersted in. Ive read a lot of people that say you can't beat a pure whippet and a few more saying beddy whippet or beddy greyhound. Love to hear experienced peoples views on this question. I understand that it's a very vague question seeing as theres a lot of variables such as the ground they're running and the fact that each individual dog is different but people must have a favourite? And I'm in k
  7. Could probably get out every other night? Not sure i should say what breed he is after the fuss it caused last time . Basically whippet x terrier. i know he wont be the greatest lamping dog mainly due to his tiny size but i'm pretty sure he'll catch a few. He's a lot quicker than youd expect, turns on a sixpence, never seems to tire and has an extremely high prey drive. I'm defintely going to get a proper lurcher but ive been advised to wait untill next season so i can bring him on first as im new to it all. I bought him as a pet with the ex, only decided i wanted to work him after a few
  8. Cheers, thats good to know, from some of the things ive read before i thought he might be miles away from fitness. Ive changed his diet over the last few weeks from mainly buscuit to about 20% biscuit now, the rest is random raw meat and bones. Liver, chicken wings, chicken carcass, minced lamb, tripe, beef and chicken. Dont know if its in my head or not but im sure his muscles are harder already when you say dont over do it and slowly increase the number of runs, i wouldnt know where to start. Like how many runs a night shall i start with and how many nights a week?
  9. i did think about that but didnt know how long it takes to set up and the cost of it. My main worry though would be him not wanting to chase that either after working out its not real. id be pissed off i bought one just for him to look at. How much are they new cos i cant find any shopping results on the web?
  10. Looking to hear about different peoples fitness regimes. My dog's 13 months (roughly) and I've met someone that lives near me with a fair bit of permission that said he'll take me out. I'm hoping this might lead to me having the permission for myself cos his dogs too old now and he's not sure he'll get another dog. He's going to be lamping rabbits, nothing else. At the moment he makes do with 2 to 3 hours mouching and playing with other dogs of an evening midweek and sometimes all day at the weekend. As of next week I'm taking him jogging with me, 6 miles twice a week. I'm wonde
  11. Aint been on for a few days i thought this thread was done with. Now everyones being helpful wtf happened?? Dont know where to start now... Oh yea i do, i aint gay lol. (Even tho ive got a yorkie chihuahua named Timmy) But like ive always said, i know he wont be anywhere near the best dog around but i dont care as moll pointed out. ill be the first to admit if im wrong but im really confident he'll catch rabbits in the open. He already nearly has in daylight the only real chance hes ever had. And i definitely want a proper lurcher but thats gonna have to wait till next season so i can trai
  12. No, i wanted a pick axe 52 seconds in. couldnt get past a minute.
  13. I think youre probably right there, its just a matter of finding permission somewhere now. Definitely think rats will be good a way to start forget the rats bud, I haven,t read the whole thread but from what I have read it seems you want to work the dog like you would any other lurcher or whippet and as far as bunnys go your wee dog will obviously have its limitations but it may be handy in other departments whether it be bushing/ferreting etc I,m sure you,ll have some good times with the wee fella, so my advise would be to try and take him ferreting at first and then try him on the lamp, at
  14. Cheers I'll get myself a copy of running dog maintainence then. I read an article from that book on here earlier actually, quite an interesting read.

  16. I'm only messing around, ive said all along that hes never gonna break any records, just joined this site cos i wanted some general advice cos i wanted to work him(for both our enjoyment). That fact seemed to get some peoples backs up but ive actually found some really helpful people on here and cant wait really get into the swing of things now. Does anyone know of any good books for a beginner? Something that covers a bit of everything ie diet, exercise, ratting, ferreting, lamping etc.?
  17. I think she might have just made it up cos she was sick of people telling her that her dogs half pitbull. Its a lovely dog though. Cheers Moll, He is a proper whirrierhua lol. Im sure i will do. Cant wait for my car to finally be fixed so i can start driving him somewhere decent again
  18. yea it doenst matter to me in the slightest whats in him, just be nice to know. Not sure i trust the tests though, my mate got her bull greyhound done and it came back 3/4 bull/grey, the bull apparently being victorian bulldog which i really couldnt see. and 1/4 whippet. Thats what she told me anyway
  19. Does anyone know how reliable these dna tests are that you can get online cos im thinking about finding out for certain what he is cos something didnt add up
