Best Complete Dry Food ?
THELURCHERANDLONGDOG replied to Dewclaw69's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
yes it will be absolutely fine mate just keep it well topped with any other extras like raw meats , tinned or fresh fish etc .Puppy and sapling is a great starter but at twice the price of 28 I don't think its really worth the extra. -

Best Complete Dry Food ?
THELURCHERANDLONGDOG replied to Dewclaw69's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
For several years I fed my dogs gain 28 all year round with added raw through the working season such as chicken carcasses, beef off cuts + fat and lamb scraps / bones etc but all this butchers waste was always second to fresh game , the old boys used to say you need to feed em fast and that has done me well over the years , I do not skin or gut rabbits or hares and those that know me and more so my dogs know they "my dogs" don't suffer because of it. Most dogs that know their way round a whole rabbit will start with the guts and finish with the eyes , some folk will be spewing at the thought -
Mange Treatment
THELURCHERANDLONGDOG replied to heathysam's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
Noromectin , jab 0.2ml per 10lbs bodyweight under the skin for mange and again in 10 days , 0.1 ml per 10lbs for general worming every 30 days to clear them of everything except tapeworm ,I alternate with panacur 10% every 3rd month for tapeworm , It is very unlikely for a collie based lurcher to have problems with noromectin or ivermectin , it is mainly full bred working strain dogs that have problems with it and then only some of them react , german shepherd and saluki can also have affects from it but I have never seen any. The only dog I have ever seen have an effect was a miniature yorkie -
Lurcher Training Problem
THELURCHERANDLONGDOG replied to Robinho86_'s topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I honestly think retrieve training is overrated , if you behave like the alpha in your pack your dogs will want to present everything to you , I have never done any training on retrieve work and my dogs will not chase tennis balls or sticks etc but they all retrieve game to hand. Cast your mind into that of a dog and think about it for a while and then all the pieces will fall into place for you hopefully. -
How Big Will My Lurcher Get
THELURCHERANDLONGDOG replied to Sarah Bennett's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Against popular belief I don't think he will make 26" at 5 1/2 months old he will make another 2" , 2 1/2 at the most making him around 24 - 24 1/2" -
If your pup has had both jabs and sufficient enough time for them to take effect then you will be fine The only thing you don't want to do is breed on your yard , parvo can lay dormant for years and some folk say you can never get rid of it.

How is your dog bred ?
-
It sounds to me that your dog needs a good rest for a week and see how it is then , you soon tell who the inexperienced folk are when they keep shouting vet vet vet !!!!!!! The exhaustion from the accidental run will more than likely have given your dog the squits and the shaky backend etc is most likely from a tumble and swelling you cant see is putting pressure on a nerve possibly even a bruised spine , imagine falling down the stairs it will hurt hurt for a week or more probably but it just takes time to heal. There is probably nothing wrong with your dog that a bit of piece and quiet and
