I think it’s long legs might make her look a bit short coupled but your probably comparing her to your deerhound x which I imagine has a great length of back, them long legs and racey built definitely helped her with speed as she was once slipped with a pure greyhound to compare and she beat the greyhound to the hare, just out of interest if you get chance sometime can you measure the length of your bitch from her front shoulder to base of tail -

There has been a few, a bitch I had out of him was one of the best I’ve had, but if you look at the pedigree of all the best dogs over the last 20 years Joe crops up numerous times in most of them so has had a big influence -

A hare can run like that in panic mode as you say even if you gave it 100 yard slip if it’s a poor hare and hasn’t got the speed to pull the dog in straight lines it just has to reley on its agility and keep turning as much as it can to try and throw the dog off, then hope it can make it to a bit of slop so it can skim across the top while the dog is sinking in -

I know I’ve had a pure saluki before that didn’t have as much wind as my coursing bred at the time, funny how it works, getting the right line of saluki is the key to great stamina -

So she was saluki grey collie whippet from what I can gather, how much whippet in there, I can’t work out how lucky had so much stamina when you look at the way he was bred because his father Joe was quarter pure greyhound and then added to the whippet and greyhound in seal there must of been getting on for nearly 50% whippet and greyhound blood in lucky, he must of been a freak or the saluki blood from beanys mother and eves father must of been from outrageous staying dogs -

I thought it was Wilkie a male dog that jp ran in the forley once, which ever it was I heard a story of one of his real good dogs that ran not so good in the forley once and he couldn’t understand why until on the way home the dog sicked up a big peice of foam which he worked out that the dog must of eat when he let it out in the garden that morning -

I wasn’t clear there, I ment in general on land that gets run regular by the end of winter it’s usually only the best hares left , the year 2000 when there was the so called millennium 5 when 5 dogs had all caught 4 or 5 a peice that day the hares were poor and g Caulfield told me he thought it was something to do with some pesticides they had been spraying on the fields because all the water in the dykes had an oily film on top -

I think most of the forleys were run mid February, on land that gets run regular by that time of year it was mostly only the best hares left on the land, I may or may not have been on the forley land myself a few times by private invitation from myself lol good runs -
Possibly after a stud this year
thefensarefarbutistillgo replied to ryaldinhio's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Tikka had a brilliant mouth, one of the best I’ve seen wanted them dead asap and would throw herself at hares from a few yards back like a catapult and often roll over with them -
