Shooting My First Reloads...223
riflehunter583 replied to DeerhoundLurcherMan's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
could well be your cases as tikka's have better extractors than crappy Remington's. funny thing is chaps at the range said I needed to full length resize. they were wrong in my case as the claw was catching on mine. rem quality control can be questionable. -

any centre fire can be very very accurate. its more to do with the specific rifle, ammo , rest and shooter more so than the cal. -

if I were you I'd buy a survey map £4! and get the farmer to highlight the land you are allowed to shoot on with a marker so you know where you are and know where you stand. -
a wise move pal how much do the reloads cost compared to hmr rounds? have you ever used n130 for it or does it need faster burning powder.

not sure what gun you have. but if its a remmington like mine then the extractor claw COULD BE catching on the edge of the case rim. if so its because the factory quality control is rubbish. either get a smith to grind a small bit off the edge of the extractor or buy a new one for a few quid from brownels. or do what I did and remove it carefully and file it down a very small amount. -

all folks on this thread seem to be doing some good reloads. one things for sure adding upgraded parts like quality barrels and decent stocks plus nice triggers combined with quality brass = improved consistency. the thread owner has also shown how tinkering about with loads can improve groupings. makes me want to do some reloads now. -

well when i had an mae on my last rifle, also a heavy barrel balance was terrible worst mod i tried for balance. even off bipod. kneeling and standing shots, ok but very much off balance. dispite what you say about the mae being reflex its still on the end of a barrel (A LEVER) there is no getting away from that fact. having tried so many mods I'm not convinced what you are saying is on the level old timer. I've noticed you will say things but not be able to back them up in real life. The only other explanation: I'm stronger than you; consequently my barrel is heavier, wider and lo -

John don't look as scruffy as you with that mean face and them dreadlocks. I recond you could ditch the rifle and when you pop your head round a bush the deer will look at you and turn to stone. You might just have a point there little man, the old mans starting to see sense. . shows you can teach an old dog new tricks. with the lighter mod on the end (pic bellow) the balance seems better despite it being a heavy barrel 24 inch. I would imagine with your mae your rifles balance is very nose heavy all to cock, not ideal. the wildcat evo bellow has certainly help -

just one thing old boy, you would need a deer calibre suitable for the hill so you would probably have to borrow mine, which of course would be far too heavy for your little frame, anyway how are you little man, havent seen you for ages? ha ha ha no to bad keyboard warrior doing allright. pop in for a cupper when your south of the boarder anytime. have you cut them scruffy drelocks off yet, that's why john at the gun shop thinks you look so rough. -

The story would read like this: ‘old man dies of heart attack on the hill deer gets away’ I know you like your deer now so Imagine we when up Scotland hill stalking and on the end of my rifle was the evo mod (much lighter) and on your rifle was your mae mod (much heaver). quieter maybe. Who do you think would be having the heart attack at the top of the Scottish hill? Fact is it would be the old man with the mae. At best y’d have to role a fag, hands shaking while i rang the mountain rescue. -

its still got a bit of weight to it on its front end. back end /over barrel bit is very light compared to the p8. overall its shorter and thinner. been told sound reduction is about the same on p8 vs evo. was kinda hoping it would be quieter than the p8 on 223 considering its got ten front baffles compared to 8 on the p8. -

just parted with my dosh and purchased a wildcat evolution mod for my 223 with 224 stack. first impressions it a good bit lighter than the p8 and very well made by the look. just not sure how quiet it is against the jetzcqb anyone done a direct compassion as I sold my jetz a while back.

I read this in the berger reloading manual tried it and it showed very very clearly what jump was needed in my rig. showed an obvious pattern. highly recomened method of finding best oal for a specific load. -

thinking about it, to be fair your groups are good if its windy and you have a basic trigger and basic brass /average bullets. a lot of the time people blame the reloads when its the wind or the rest or shooting technique. maybe your reloads are good. I would defo set up your sizing die and press right so you get good neck tension and put same presur eon each stroke to get consistent neck tension. - right powder weight - right oqive length from lands good neck tensin and I think you will be happy. the second way of measuring the ogive to lands is how I have done it. never had an oal gu -
I have a 223 and with a full charge its very powerful. I'm always mindful of the danger and responsibility. once the trigger is pulled there is no rewind button like on sky or u tube!

mine 22 loves the eleys I would never buy any other 22 ammo. made down the road and more accurate than all the others I tried. and very quiet. my 1517 hmr ejects fine if I pull back abit otherwise the shell sits at an angle so they can be picked out. I think its how the actions are made and yours being new is a bit stiff. I would imagine the hmr and 22 have the same extractor and ejector.
