Yup! Noticed that a long time ago, and stopped going out on clear nights. I wouldn't say they saw us coming, cos just driving along and having a quick flash with the light when we would normally see plenty, revealed very little.

Mine is offset on my old landy. I've fitted a few others too, depending on what the individual wanted. If you drive around yourself, it's handy at the Drivers side, (of centre) if there are 2 of ya, it's handy on the passenger side. Landy has a box section running down the outside of the roof tho, so no option but go either side Had mixed results with suction cup type, and like ya say, not much good with the weather up our way....That's why I'm changing landy doors to winding window type!

Agreed, doubt it was a cat. We just recently lost all our hens too. Ours had small bite marks to their necks, and neighbouring farmer said he had seen a 'family' of 4 foxes heading off from our direction. Stll not confirmed 100% they were responsible. Carcasses had been chewed from tail end tho. When we had chickens many years ago, they would have given any cat a run for his money! What time of day was this, Did it happen in daylight? Ours happened 1 weekend when we'd been away with no kids running about etc. They roosted in a tree in their run at night, which leads me to think

Never actually thought on doing that But think I could make new ones in the time it would take (like someone else pointed out) Got another 2 weeks to think about it, then I'll be back home and giving something a go! Cheers

Wabbit cawachers (I.e snares)

Don't set them in beside your horses either! Some vets bill if they happen to try chewing / licking at them! -
Thocht that, nae totally opposite side, but right at the end o my field o vision

Bob, saw some of your photos on another page in here, are you at the other side of Bennachie from us?

Nae bad, I'm up near Colpy, but back towards Rothie. Working Offshore nowadays. Not much 'Estates' remaining round our way right enough. There are still 1 or 2 that have Keepers that I'm aware of tho. Have often wondered about offering my services when I am at home, but always far too much to do each time, I never have any spare time to offer, despite my best intentions! I am a member of a small syndicate, and even with it, the jobs always seem to happen when I'm away!

Hello and Fit Like? Nae far awa fae you ma'sell. Lots of interesting stuff (and folk) on here. Where were you before Kemnay? Local? Mechanic myself......once upon a time.

Like the Rivet idea now. That's something else I have an abundance of (got a few landies to keep going) Not sure about the knot, would it not be too big?? When I get back home I'll give them all a try tho. Anyone on here work in a 'factory / fab-shop' that punches 10-12mm holes in any alluminium? The resulting 'scrap' from the hole might do it?? Just thinking out loud and open to ideas. Cheers. PS, Time's not the issue, it's the parting with cash that gets me!!

Fair points, but I'm tight! Had considered the sparky terminals like you say, but thought, 'They cost money'. I know the brake pipe does too, but I have heaps of it! Just thought, how would a .22 air gun pellet work? One good smack with a happer, then fold and grip it on? Similar to using the split shot weight? I just wondered with the wide variety of folks on here from all different walks of life, if anyone had came across anything simple, and in abundance?. Not against making up new ones, but seems a shame to waste the old ones after having kept them all this time. (They're

Some good 'common sense' points coming out here. Looks to me that (In a way) most of you agree with me, or at least see that the average guy looking for £500 odd is chancing his mit, whilst a perfectly decent dog with potential can be acquired for a lot less. Like I say, I'm not in a position to get one just yet, and I'll be keeping my ears open over the next few months or so. I work away from home a lot at the moment, and my concern is if I get one whilst I'm in this position, that my wife and kids will have the pup ruined by the time I can commit to it. If anyone can convince me thi

Just been reading back through some archive material on this site for the last day or so, and got me thinking I'll dig out my snares and give it a go again. Haven't been at it for years, same old story, time / commitments / work etc. I know the legislation has changed, and I cannot now do as I used to - setting on fences, and I know that all snares should be fitted with 'stops' to prevent choking the catch. (When I was a lot younger- 30 plus years younger , I was always told, If they weren't dead when you found them, I'd set them wrong, but I suppose times are a changin') Anyway, It is

Well, whatever it was, it (unfortunately) gets a reprieve for the next 4 weeks, I'm out of the country working! Remaining hens have been re-housed, hopefully vermin proof. Neighbour up the road puts down pheasants, so hoping he'll be on the case in my absence! It had to happen just before I left, couldn't have happened when I just arrived back!!

Yup, No signs of hair tho. Had a visitor to the cage trap last night, managed to remove the bait without setting it off!!!!!!! Nae happy!! Re-set and tried to make sure it will work next time!

Caught up with the farmer next door Today, and he was saying that they saw 4 foxes the other night, crossing through the garden, and off towards a neighbouring farm! x2off adults and x2off Cubs he recconed. Might be it was one (or both) of the cubs that got in and did the damage. There is a 3" ish gap under their gate which I never gave a second thought to.....untill now!! Had a look about with the rifle just now, but nothing doing........yet.

Cheers Folks. There is a burn / ditch at the end of the park outside the house here (Aprox. 200 yards) Got my hands on a cage trap today to try out, so got it set up with one of the deceased in there so we'll wait n see what happens.

Following some further 'Quincy' work, I have noticed the necks have been broken cleanly, and 3 or 4 puncture wounds around the break, about 3/4" apart. Running low on live ones now, How about I hang up a dead one with soft brushed earth around below it, in an attempt to see some foot prints? Depending what it was, is it likely to return to a dead one??

No, no dogs around the farm. Another 3 chickens gone since yesterday tho, NO trace of them atall! Begining to think maybe it was a cat, ????
-
Didn'tthink a cat would get the better of them. Seen cats having a sniff about at hens in the past, but the hens haven't been scared to hold their own. Saw a post on here somewhere in the past, (but typical, I can't find it Today) which gave a run down on what damage / evidence different predators leave behind! The hens don't help themselves, despite my best efforts at building them a nice wee house, they persist(ed) to stay up a tree in their run! Not practical to sit and wait for whatever is responsible with the gun, so was hoping to narrow the options down before I set any traps. Wh

Just returned home today from a night out yesterday, only to find a mass of feathers in the chickens run.......and a few less chickens! One went missing a few weeks ago, and only this week has the carcas been found in a shed at the farm next door (only about 50 feet away) I had a look about in the run, and discovered x2 bodies, both of which have been eaten from the rear end, and the cockeral has had his neck stripped and stretched by a few inches! What was it? Weasel / Mink?? Any ideas? Kids NOT happy about it, telling me I need to shoot the fox that took their chickens, but

Hello and welcome, Nice work you do there.

Thanks for that, I'll take a squint at the website and see what it's saying.

Cheers, Not saying I would be buying one like that, but having been looking about at prices, it started me thinking why do people think their 'regular' dogs are worth very nearly as much as a pup like this. When I do get to the stage when I am out to buy one, I'll be happy if I can make it do the basics, but why would I want to 'waste' the money for a pup whose parents may never have seen anywhere further than 10' from a pavement, but could 'invest'(?) another couple of hundred for a 'decent' one. Hope this makes sense.. I was just curious
-
How would you justify that against what a reputable breeder with a background charges? Like I said, he doesn't want much more? £500 odd in the local paper for someones 'regular' pups is steep against the Pro's. - surely?
