They're dogs from an Irish strain that most likely came from England.. -

Well Pit dog was entered to Nuttal's terriers back in the day for instance, work that one out ;-) -

p Speed is only one part of the game though, plenty of plodders win in the box. The Terriers of those days must have been game dogs that's for sure. -

That's the conventional idea but to me all too convenient, a dog used for Bullbaiting would be anything but slow. The Bulldog was not some massive dog, it fell within the weight range of the APBT. -

There's usually no smoke without fire, why all the mention of Terrier blood in the mix if it's not true? -

when would you say they perfected the breed mate? How do I know that, I know the quality of the dogs improved over time. Surely you can't deny this? I just thought it was a bold statement to make. I don't think that's the case at all. -

Nice to see someone who's view is the APBT is the original Bulldog. One thing that backs up your argument is Bulldog is added to Terriers this day and age to harden them up, you wouldn't see the opposite taking place. -

Wether we like to hear it or not the Yanks definitely perfected the breed IMO. -

Most of the APBT fanatics claim their Gameness comes solely from the Bulldog but I'm not so sure, I reckon the Terriers also brought this trait to the mix, the Bulldog looking types are usually rough dogs but lack the deep Gameness. I dare say that there was infusion of different Terrier types as well as Bulldog types in the APBT's makeup. -

I think it's nigh on impossible to deny terrier blood in these dogs.... http://www.game-dog.com/gallery/files/6/5/7/colbys_galtie_the_irish_dog.jpg -

I don't believe the old story that the Terrier was crossed with the Bulldog because the Bulldog was too slow for fighting, how the hell can a dog that is bred to bring a Bull to be bay be a slow animal? I think the Terriers of those days brought a hell of a lot more than speed and agility to the package. -

When talking about the Americans using different breeds and "fixing a type" I was talking about the American Bulldog, not the APBT. The American Bulldog was always bred on looks first and function second The old type Bulldogs that were used on the farms back in the day were definitely bred for function first and foremost, if I'm not mistaken it was Johnson that started breeding a "type" so to speak, bringing in such breeds like the English Bulldog and Mastiff into the mix. -

I know the American Bulldog is thought by many to be a relative new breed but I've seen pictures from the 1800's of white Bulldog type dogs that look exactly like the American Bulldog. There was definitely a type of farm mutt that resembled the modern American bulldog dating back to the early days of the colony, the creators of the AB just slapped a name on them and started trying to fix a type. That's something the Pit folk don't like to here, maybe these type of dogs are even more closely related to the original Bulldog than the APBT. If so that basically pisses all over the myth that Game -

Very true and many of these American Bulldogs of today are probably new creations, but like you said back in the day there was definitely Bulldog type farm dogs in the south of America. -

Not just the Yanks that believe that tbh. Yeah I'm with you, the original Bulldog was more than likely a type not a breed, just like the APBT. As you say some of the original imports that were shipped over the pond looked very Terrier like whilst others resembled the Bulldog. I know the American Bulldog is thought by many to be a relative new breed but I've seen pictures from the 1800's of white Bulldog type dogs that look exactly like the American Bulldog. -
I love a good old debate and this is the biggest one regarding the history of the APBT. Experts on the breed like Richard Stratton and many others believe the APBT is infact the original Bulldog, whilst the majority agree it was a cross between the Bulldog and working terriers. I for one think there's too many articles and evidence for the terrier infusion not to be true.

Should have left them down a bit longer, I can guarantee the Shepherd wouldn't be doing it again...

That's the thing though, you can't prove the disease is caused by smoking. Who's to say these ailments wouldn't appear anyway?

Of course numbers matter, if you train but don't eat enough calories you will lose more muscle than you had to start with. I understand what you're saying but you have to keep track.
-
That seems very low, how much do you aim to lose a week? Doesn't cutting too drastic lose you too much muscle as well as fat?

It's great, I've just had a breakfast of Golden Syrup Porridge, whole fat milk, 1 tablespoon of peanut butter and a banana. Came to a grand total of 509 calories, only another 3,267 to go. I feel full already though..,
