reddawn replied to midnight's topic in Countryside Skills, Craft & DIY
Same as me ,paid 70 quid for a knife and lost it in the field.. gutted.. my missus has bought me a few pricey uns noo, 1 was even a bday pressie, an i left it in a wood, have searched for it loads a times aswell, i just stick to the wee £2.50 folding knifes most hillwalkers an army shops sell, but i dont like folding knifes -
its a good dvd, worth a watch, all the best way ye pup
-
what ye mean aboot the ball bearng mate, sorry im having a proper blonde minute here lol
-
id say she is just going a funny teenage rebelious stage pal, but in saying that i wouldnt be standing there shouting on a dog thats not gonna come, you are just letting the dog think not to come when called is okay, try an keep her on a lead for a while mate, an let her off when ye think you have go ther more under control, i never ask a pup to do summat i dont think it will if that makes sense, i try an only ever ask for what i know it can/will do, id go back to basics with the dog whilst waiting for her stage to pass

How dare ya! You cannot cut of a ferrets head just because it has fleas. i thought he ment the flea's heads
-
http://www.brownsangling.co.uk/images/thumbs/0001847.jpeg closest thing i can find online thats like the 1 i use, but its not the 1 that ye screw diffrent heads or alarms on, they are too thick
-
i used a tbar for a couple of seasons an it come in handy, i lent it out an never got it back.... yet now i always cable tie a wee cheap rod rest from the tackle shop onto me spade, not the thick uns ye screw bite alarms an assorted heads on just the cheapo yins, its come in handy a few times an has earned it place on my list of ferreting gear

much are ye gonna charge for ye rabbit paunchers pal?? not being a tight arse, just chances are ill lose it, i lose a lot of knifes every season due to gutting bunnys in the field -
iv never used a long lead for recall pal, i persoanlly think dogs aint daft an know they cannae go anywhere on a long lead, so just come back anyways, only time i ever used 1 was for stock breaking a mad older lurcher i brought in, that dont mean it wont work tho, are you getting anoyed when you stand ye ground an she walks away?? dogs can pick up on the slightest a change to our voice an body language
-
i know its hard but dont raise ye voice or threaten to slap the pup for it, if it was me id sit doon an refuse to move till the dog come to me, or try walking the other way if it wanders off instead of standing looking at ye, i repeat dont lose it tho, or itll end up worse, even when out for a walk call the dog back a good few times an refuse to move until the dog comes, an you either put your hand on its collar an lelt it move off again or put it on a lead for 50/100yds then let it off again, itll soon relise that gettin put on a lead aint the end of its fun

i can remember borrowing a hob off a guy an he fetched it to mine an it had no less that 50 ticks on it, he had just finished a days ferreting an dropped the hob on his way home, i must confess to doing a mate a favour last season an ferreting a banking on his bosses builders yard, we bagged up with bunnys but the fleas an ticks on that job were the worst iv ever seen, 1 of my jills had 20 all over head when she come out, an a guy i onvited with me off here, his 2 jills were riddled
-
aye mate its better to have an need an not have an need as they say lol, im sure i payed 20 quid ot thereabout for mine off vet an that was a good few years ago now, i still got a good 1/3rd of the bottle left aswell, ye hardly waste any of it when spraying onto goves 1st, there will come a time when ye get a spot that is infested with fleas/ticks fookers make my skin crawl lol
-
dogs all the same height will have diffrent weights, due to diffreent shaped frames/bodys an diffrent breeds in the mix, i got a 5/8th grey 3/8ths terrier here who is 24 ats an weighs 55lb in weight when conditioned an fit, ye will soon see at what weight the dog does its best
-
if your out as often as some folks an catching a lot of bunnys, at some point ye will need to de flea ye ferret pal, wether or not ye spray them is your choice, but i find it by far the easiest method of getting rid of fleas on ferrets.. i dont spray my ferrets everytime i feed em a fresh bunny or take them ferreting, to be honest i think iv only ever done all my jills twice, which works out about yearly, but i have found/rescued/een given ferrets that needed de flead an frontine has been worth its weight in gold
-
never heard that 1 before, dont mean its not true tho, likes been said get em in freezer after gutting, an do ye ferrets with frontline when needed, that will be enuff
-
they cant get a pair of feckin jeans to fit those fat feckers .lol  im sure ye can get spray on yins
-
keep to the traps, an if ye cant catch them then admit defeat an get a pestie in
-
iv read this thread a few times noo an pondered wethere or not to answer, i know some wont like what i have to say but here goes anyways.... get the dog pts pal, if you have it from a pup an yet you cannae or ye wife cannae bond with it, its probs for the best, i hate passing dogs on for whatever reason, i still wonder about the couple i have passed on in the past,(not enuff to keep me awake allnite, but worry i dont need), its hard enuff rehomeing a dog with a sound temperment never mind a dog that is driving his owner to despair, a dog that has as many issues as the 1 you describe is
-
no excuse for bein that size, eat less an move more, hardly fookin rocket science
-
Disagree with this. I've regularly seen fleas on rabbits, 2-3 days later.. I just freeze them.. then feed as and when, from the freezer once defrosted. If you just throw them in fresh, keep an eye out for fleas and frontline as has been said.. aye i agree, but i do find that hangin bunnys up to cool or just laying to 1 side whilst ye finish lampin/ferretin gets rid of most the fleas off the bunnys, i dont know about 2/3 days later mine are usually in freezer or gamedealers by then tho
-
walk them both together on a lead for a good while before letting them off to run around with each other, whilst on lead dont let the make a fuss over each other, just walk them side by side they will accept each other quicker
-
ps, easiest way to see if a bunnys has fleas is to check the ears, if they got a lot of fleas you will see them on bunnys ears
-
let ye dead bunnys go cold before giving them to ferrets or dogs to eat, the fleas will leave the bunny by then, an get to vets an buya bottle of frontline spray an follow instructions on bottle
-
Yep. covered it with grass and leaves. try an old bit of carpet or soil mate
-
ill have a look mate, cheers
