  1. i have 2 young first cross saluki greyhound bitchs 13 months old captain they have done well just at the end of last season for me they seem to have good wind but it will be next season before i will really know what they are made of but so far so good, geoff in galway has 2 from the same litter he is very happy with them, cm in kildare is a big fan of saluki grey he said 2 of the best dogs he ever seen wer first x
  2. well first of all lads i have said on here before that i have never seen a saturated saluki type to be good in small land but i never said they wer no good and yes lloyed maby all the saluki saturated lurchers i have seen wer shit thats why i said i never seen a good 1 in small land that dosent mean they are not there but i just havent seen them as for going down to cork next season you dont have to prove any point to me if your dogs suit you thats all that matters this topic is about opinions and everyone has there own opinion im just giveing mine, 1 of the best dogs in ireland if not the bes
  3. yes LLOYD there is sum big land down there iv hunted cork for the past 10 years and there is some small land down there that these saluki types would not bend a winter hare and as iv said already if you have these saturated saluki types killing hares in small land id like to see some video clips its easy to say that dog killed this and this dog killed that a few video clips is the proof of the pudding now as iv also said maybe there is sum of these saturated saluki types that can kill in small land but i have never seen them.
  4. i have to say i also agree with speedie that there is certain land in ireland that you can get away with there saturated saluki types but there is some very small land that you need sumting with real gears to run them, iv never hunted in england but iv done alot of running in ireland county clare galway limerick tippery cork waterford kildare roscommon and iv seen a lot of there saturated lurchers and never seen a good 1, now maby there is sum good 1s out there but i just havent seen them if there is any id like to see sum video clips
  5. i agree with good man on this anything over half saluki seems 2 slow here in ireland i think first x saluki grey are perfect for here they have plenty of speed and can stay on aswell, just my opinon
  6. saw 1 last season about 24 inchs very clever around cover and had a nice bit of wind she stopped a lot of longears
  7. im not a fan of whippet greys but in fairness they would kill hares where these big stamina dogs would fail to put a bend in a hare, and its the same with the saluki types they would kill hares where the whippet greys and types would just blow out.. so again i think its horses for courses, iv yet to see a dog master both real big land and real small land, i got a bitch back from england about 10 years ago from my uncle and she was a very good bitch in eng killilg 2 and 3 week in and week out and she just couldnt control a hare in ireland, i also gave him a bitch she was deerhound greyhound bac
  8. sound good man il get you up for a good days coursing again next oct nov and you can see her full sister holly in action she is also a very tidy bitch on the longears,
  9. i agree with gorger on that, and it all depends on the land you hunt like carlow and louth there is massive land but there is other countys in ireland that wouldnt suit these dogs that run in big land they wouldnt have the speed again thats just my opinion, and yes lads i think that a dog that can get on a good winter hare in small land and hold him in the 1 field for 20 turns and controls it thats at least 2 to 3 minute run i think it is a decent dog,
  10. i think the older breeds of dogs wer better because if they got on a hare they would keep him in the 1 field if you got a good 1 he wud put 15 to 20 good turns in a hare and at was all action, now as good man says its all about minutes not turns and i think its because its ireland trying to copy england, haveing that said there is some good breeding around today and yes the saluki breed is a very good breed but i think its all about getting the right mix of a dog with speed that can hold a hare in 1 field and getting him to stay on. just my opinon
  11. louth tiger a bitch called nell a red dog called called brownie that a mate of mine has a first cross saluki dog in kildare just a few off the top of my head
  12. i feel if you have the space to keep your def better with 2 pups because sumtimes more often than not there might only be 1 or 2 gud pups in the litter so it increses the chances just my opinion
  13. sad to hear he has passed away i didnt know the man but from what i heard he was a real top hunts man rest in peace
  14. im not speedie there are lads on here that know who i am and they know the dogs im on about we just leave it at that, and as for video clips its a well know fact that there is very few of these so called good dogs on video
  15. iv have seen first hand some of these big money dogs run and i wouldnt pay 100 euro for sum of them they just couldnt get on terms with in ireland maby there are good english dogs but if so why are they not on dvd??? all i can say is fair play to any 1 thats puts video clips up instead of trying to create them internet legends
  16. iv a first cross saluki greyhound iv put her in as 1 of the 5 no bother, i dont think there is an english dog that would compare to louth tigers dog he is a class act, and speedies dog ted is a good dog so bring it on lads
  17. first and foremost england and ireland are compleatly diffrent so diffrent dogs are needed and even ireland is very diffrent in certain areas so again some times diffrent dogs are needed, but to say a dog has to have saluki in them to be a good dog is crazy.. there has been plenty good dogs in ireland with no saluki what so ever, and as for all these so called top dogs that can do it in england and ireland im yet to be convinced speedie is 1 of the only men on here that has the balls to put video clips of his dogs so before ye come on here makeing statments about these so called top class dogs
  18. i think 25 percent saluki in irish dogs is enough or a well bred first x saluki greyhound is perfect for ireland, some of the best dogs iv seen running in the past has just been lurcher x lurcher no saluki at all in them and they had loads of speed and enough stamina for here,
  19. they is some very good collie crosses despite what some brain dead people on here think i have 2 collies x bitches they are old now 1 is 13 years and the other is 8 years both of them wer top class on hares real fast and very good mouth with a nice bit of wind and plenty of brains, over all collies are fairly even the bad 1s can catch rabbits on a regular basis
  20. iv had a good few dogs down the years with broken toes and iv tryed a lot of different things but the best thing iv found to do is cut the nail on the toe right back all the way and tie the dog up for 4 weeks and he should be fine.
  21. welcome to the site mate im fairly new to this site myself, nice dogs mate they in great condition all the best with them for the season
  22. im just wondering if anyone has pups out of garfields walshs full saluki? as i have 1 myself she only 9 months old she from full greyhound, so just wondering if anyone has pups of him old enough to run and what way are they going? thanks
  23. this is a good question i would like to know what age she came to ireland at? because if she was a young bitch and was sold for 300 euro then there must be sumting wrong..
  24. i think that lucas should prove himself if he is that good, if you think about all the great sporting legends they all had to prove themselfs so untill he proves himself there is a big question mark on him.. just my view
