  1. J.D. - thinking of getting my dad a book about foxhunting for Christmas as he's hunted with the Zetland all his life. Just looked on your website but couldn't see any related to foxhunting in particular. I was wondering, do you know any good ones to go for? You come across as the type of guy that may have read a few and know the best ones to go for. Thanks to anyone who can help me out. TW
  2. Can anyone help? My old man has followed the Zetland Foxhounds all of his life, both on horseback and on foot. I'm thinking of getting him a book about foxhunting for Christmas instead of the usual socks and bottle of whisky! If anyone knows some of the best books that are kicking about for me to get him that would be great. I'm hoping someone on here will have read a few and know which one to go for! Thanks for any help. ATB TW
  3. didn't realise it was a pup, sorry. thought if you were making a dvd it would be of some top class experienced dogs
  4. far too keen that dog isn't it? turning circle of the QE2!
  5. looks a beauty mate. I was thinking of putting my dog over a pure greyhound if he turns out good enough but was concerned it would cause the pups to have poor feet after hearing tales of greyhounds always having knocked up toes cause of the speed they go and their so called 'poor feet'. What are her feet like bud? I don't suppose you'll have fully tested her yet if she's only just turned 12months. ATB, The Wizard
  6. there's idiots no matter where you go!
  7. Hey huggy mate, was the bitch out of charlie and diesel called Magic or something along those lines? My pup's grandsire was out of that mating I think = Amazing Pharoah - Magic. Your dog may even be the grandsire if I'm thinking you're the right person. I got my pup off Monster.
  8. too rough Mate, I walked the dog earlier and I'm suprised the trees weren't being pulled out the ground by it! The usual rabbits I see hopping about every evening were nowhere to be seen that's for sure. In fairness to you like I do live right on top of a hill and it has calmed down a bit now from what it was, and it's stopped lashing down. I'm not normally one to miss a night but from what I saw earlier I wouldn't think much would be about - but now it's settled that might be different. Anyway, I think a lot of it doesn't matter that much. I went out on Friday night on some permis
  9. I was thinking about it but I think it's TOO rough in my neck of the woods - if there is such a thing! ATB to those who are!
  10. My pup is line bred to a dog out of Amazing Pharoah - Khan Jihad's littermate. From what I've heard about both of them they were top class and the dogs out of Amazing Pharoah that I've seen or heard about have all been good workers! Surely a good bloodline to breed from
  11. Cracking night tonight!

  12. Alright mate, I dunno about you but £40 is still a decent amount of money to me! I just got the 10AH mate and it's more than enough really for what I do. I go out for 2-3 hours normally and the battery has only ever been just under half full when I get home, but I charge it up for the next time out anyway. Once I forgot to charge it and went out a few nights in a row, (only for a couple of hours max each night though), and it still lasted over an hour on the last night before it ran out. As for where to buy - I just bought it straight from Deben. I looked around on mail-order companies
  13. If you are going to double up I think one of the keys to it is when you slip the dogs. If you're going to slip one half way through a run you've got to make sure they're not going to meet head on or you're just asking for trouble. If done properly and you're out for numbers or, for the 'irish lads' - after charlie, then i don't see the problem with it. It can be a handy way of bringing a pup on as well, running it with an experienced dog. I've done this a few of nights over the last couple of weeks and my pup is a lot more switched on now on the lamp. Just my thoughts - I'm sure there'll be pl
  14. hammered the lamp this week with my pup. he's 12 months old now and starting to get the hang of it. he was getting a bit frustrated last week with some hard runs but got a few squaters at the start of this week and now he's much more focused, starting to look down the beam and catching rabbits after some pretty tricky and good hard runs. couple of nights running him with my mates dogs is helping him get the idea as well and we've had some pretty useful bags to take home!
  15. What a week for the pup! Poor lad has done some hours on the lamp this week but getting the hang of it now and had some tidy bags!

  16. I've got one now, with the dimmer switch. Honestly can't complain about it, it has been a very handy tool, easy to use and robust. I also got the mid-range lithium battery which I have now used for 3 nights on the trot without charging and it still tells me it's almost full! Plus I can fit it into my pocket which is very useful. I recommend this product to anyone wanting hastle free lamping, be it with dog or gun
  17. First outing on the lamp this season later and first time pup will have seen it. Hope all goes well.. blowing a bloody gale!

  18. Just got in from a morning out with the pup. Some good runs :)

  19. Cheers guys, might have to get one then!
  20. Hi guys and girls, Does anyone use the Tracer 170 lamp with variable power? I'm thinking of getting a new lamp and lithium battery and was eyeing up this one as it's always advertised in the Countryman's Weekly so any tips or advice would be great. Also, if anyone has any tips for best lith. battery to get that would be great. Probably looking at one of the mid-range ones as I think the 22ah one will be overkill. Cheers in advance!
  21. it's not the size of the dog in a fight, it's the amount of fight in the dog.
  22. Early morning or late evening. Doesn't really matter - you just want to get there when the rabbits are at their most relaxed and more importantly, when they are as far out in the open as possible. That's when they sit tight and make easier targets. That's not to say it'll be a walk in the park for the dog though.
