  8. 1986 got a bit better, added a half brother to our team, had shaves, got tidied up a tad, went up market and bought a newer poaching wagon
  9. Found this picture from 1985, dogs, left mother, centre sire, and on the left a pup.. A good year for me for dogging, but what do you think of the hair cuts, and general appearance and hunting attire
  10. Hi Hob&Jill, check the second bitch down on this link http://www.doxhopedeerhounds.co.uk/lurchers.htm
  11. Hey, I had been hunting nearly 35 years before I got my first permission, not that I wanted any in my younger days.. Like Ricky highlighted, it may just be the start, word of mouth with farmers is better than any advertisement..I started doing mole control in the early nineties, spent loads of money for adverts, cards, phone calls, got limited response, the number of times a farmer pulled up when I was in the field and gave me work was unbelievable, and the farmer I was doing work for saying the next door neighbour wants some moles done...I ended with with over 20 farms to control moles on,
  12. No lurcher Ive owned has brought rabbits back to hand alive, but all the deerhounds Ive worked did, but on a deer or fox pre ban, it was like a frenzied attack, even on the night they had got a deer or fox, any rabbit caught were alive, could let them go again for a pup if I wanted too...
  13. I love them all, but your right little Lloyd, red squirrels are something special.. Heres one of my pics;
  14. Great event, well staged a credit to the organisers, only one little problem, it was cancelled when I got there But, the farmers up there lost everything last time, and no one wants that to happen again, better to be on the safe side, look forward to see-ing this beautiful part of north Northumberland next year, I hope....
  15. Thats the way mate, get them out, if you wait for perfect condiotions, you might never get out..I lamp on full moons, use bush craft and stealth, and the dog has to show a bit more ability maybe than on better conditions, but at least Im out
  16. Think your last statement is probably right there mate, lurcher work has changed so much over the last 10 years, todays dogs arnt bred to do numbers, scores like 46 are a hell of an achievment for one dog nowerdays, but they are a long way off 100..I only hope individuals dont go crazy pushing dogs to try and do bigger numbers than what they can cope with...Ive seen dogs collapse, never run properly again or even have to be burried because of the lamping game Forget the 100 rabbits with one dog, for 99.9% of the dogmen in the country, its not going to happen
