germna wirehaired pionter has the coat grit and good feet , there was a breeder k smith years ago had them on lamermuirs, ye alot of keepers dont keep there dogs in good shape thats for sure , and expect them to jump out there bed ready to go , not my scene , mate had a big beardie cross and a deerhound cross both took the weather fine in winter , and done well ,it can be a cold day doing pestcontrol and waiting for sport with a terrier , i hunted the hills with a beardie collie cross and a colie lurcher both took weather well , but he smooth coats didnt like it some of them , hanging about -

what type of cross to run on grouse moors
BLACKWATER... replied to crossy terrier lad's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
the moors are local to me , had some [bANNED TEXT] good days up there but if iwas going stay up there be a deerhound type cross either collie or saluki, a good coat as the winter and weather is harsh , saw smooth coated dogs not faring well staying up in the hills were the beardie and deerhound type dont mind ,and thrive , a good hill dog should be capable in handling what qaury comes along like the old scotish deerhound type did years ago -
rabbit hunter not round my way, this is 2012 time moves on so does the type of dogs we keep at times,
