if greyhounds are the fastest?...
troter58 replied to whippet pup's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
as i said on page two the bitch i reared from 8 weeks old and lived to 11 was a good hunting partner and put plenty stuff away but any one who gets a ex track dog and thinks it can do as well as a lurcher needs to get in to some thing different and she never suffered with bad feet or ran in to any thing could jump like a stag big differents between a track dog and one brought up as a worker .atb -

as been said ex track dogs know no different they will just run in to a fence but get a pup it will do every thing a lurcher can but not a lot of wind thats why we run lurchers is it not? as for brain no diffrent from a salukie most will come round with time spent on them.atb -
if greyhounds are the fastest?...
troter58 replied to whippet pup's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
That's the problem, most people's experience of greyhounds in the field is ex track dogs that've been taken in to use as stud dogs or brood bitches for breeding lurchers. These dogs have run the oval on sand and have known nothing else. They've never had to turn or stop. yes your right i think the people who comment on here have just got a dog from the track and entered them to the field. baw i would like to try again with a pure greyhound but i would sooner run a lurcher mate tried and tested i found with the bitch i had she was up for it in mind but would not last a long night on the lamp -

many moons ago i was given a greyhound pup a bitch i fetched her up as you would a lurcher she could jump mark up for the ferrets and i worked her in the lamp so i do not buy in to all this they are thick and run in to every thing in front of them yes may be if it is a ex track dog thats only ever run round a track but if reared from a pup they can do a job for you. atb -

Looking for a home for my young lurcher dog
troter58 replied to lampinglurcher's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I considered it for a while but on the basis that I'm not the only capable dogman in the country I figure a shot at a decent life with someone else might just be better than knockin him on the head Must be nice to live in the land of "if's" fella, but some of us just do what we have to. no ifs or buts about it mate the dog would be going no where but thats just me as said hope the dog gets a good home atb the man obviously knows whats best for his dog. its easy to say this is what i would of done when you know nothing about the bloke or his lifestyle. i hope you find a good home it -
