i cant see how a terrier in "small earths" could possibly flip a fox over onto its back!!!! if it has room to flip a fox onto its back then draw it from the earth then that earth must have plenty of room in it and therefore cannot be called a small earth.IMO. why? ive seen the bitch do it in a 6/8inch pipe, most foxes arent big and with the right technigue can be easily handled. once you have seen it happen you woulndt be such a sceptic ok fair enough, i wasnt talking about pipes or artificials, but anytime ive dug a fox in a SMALL natural earth the terrier has been wedged in tight a

Cotswold Hunt Show 16th August the kennels, Andoversford, cheltenham terrier and lurchers with terrier racing to follow. judging starts at 12noon.

intresting posts lads! my theory is that a GOOD 100% bolting dog and a dog that gets pushed about and the quarry bolts are two differnt things. All my good bolting dogs(and ones ive seen) will fly into their quarry like the best of the best hard dogs, for he first 30 secs/ minuite, the tend to give them room, if that dosent shift them i like a dog that will work itself round quarry and bay and mix it out. swansea.. the dog im mentioned that was hard and i could call out would always clamp on when close to break through if it hadnt already killed his quarry. the longest he was to ground

"kill it".... i agree. from the pic it looks mangie and you say it looks mangie..... for the good of foxes and our sport anyone who has the oppertunity to kill a mangie fox should do without question. its the only way to reduce what is a horrible condition. if people culled crap foxes and left good foxes, asin with deer, where the oppertunity arrises (this includeds the people that just kill everything that moves) then our fox populationa and quality would be greatly improved, as it is, is in a VERY sorry state.

ive had a dog i could call out that if i didnt call out anyone who had seen him would say he was a 100% hard dog. if left he would kill his quarry or you could dig to him without any problem atall.... but at any point i could call him away.... he was 1 in a million but id have a life time of dogs like him please. so being able to call them away dosent make them bad aslong as they do the job when their there.

if by dog you included hounds and terriers, you cant beat it!

was he trying to sell him something ive used it for years on alot of dogs (150+) and never seen a bad reaction, other than in dogs with sores or wet ezma type stuff. im also fairly well conetced with the "vetinary" world, and havent heard that myself. but it maybe true.

what you say is very true, we all started with nothing. some of us also furthered are knowledge by listening, maily taking critisisms, piss takings and bolloking from people who perhaps know a bit more.(infact most of us still do) others beleive they know it all from the outset, dont have a good attituded and belive they are hunter No1. these soon get found out. ALL of us can and will learn from others wether its from a bit of piss taking, and soem well earned praise, and NONE of us will never stop learning. my hunch that this lad had a bad attitude from the beging im afraid has only been -

as i say im not trying to be orcuard but i really do beg to differ. i think in any dog, be it lurcher, terrier or hound, they kill more on ground they know...... i shall leave it at that
-
Yep the advantage will be minimal if any at all....the 2 competitors will be walking side by side and running alternate slips, so how could you guarantee that it'd be your slip at that point in the field???? not trying to be orcuard mate, but i beg to differ. if its a straight numbers game, what to say a dog has to run the beam etc... if a dog knows the ground, a rabbit decideds to squat, the dog through knowledge of the ground come in from the rabbits most likly run would have the advantage. i also think dogs in a familiar environment are more settled and consentrated, they know whe

not enetering... but playing devils advoctate... my dogs catch more game on ground they know.... gaps in hedges, easy places to jump, dips in feilds etc.... so if someone gives up land, are they aloud to run it?
