i know excatlly what your saying pip and the point your trying to make just i think some of the lads on here may miss read it. i still say they dont have to be that big to do the job, just have the skills. perhaps a smaller dog has to learn teh skills faster to get through, whereas actually the bigger dogs od not do the job so well, but it would appaer they do beacsue they can chuck there weight around, so when these are evnetually breed from and throw smaller stuff it is going to be less able. if that makes sense. i still like a line that throws strong hardish dogs and small softish b

i actually think this is nosense mate, from what ive been seeing, judging, breeding, digging to, on the whole the stamp of the working terrier is getting bigger, thats dogs and bitches. my prference is i dont like dogs i cant span, as a gerneral rule the country that i work, they wont do the job. there are very few lines of strong type dogs that i couldnt span with 3 hands, let alone 2. im aposed to this increase in size and belive there is nothing worng with a good compact terrier that can get around easily but has the right breeding and attitude to do the job. it obviosuly depends on your wor

sorry foxy the point i was trying to make was exactly what you were saying, but your just not realising it..... you are judging and you dont know the circumstances. back to the orginally point, i suspect that even if he was a vet, he had some part to play in the state of the animal. the moral for me is that if you bring a wild animal into captivity, of any size or shape, then you have to deal with the consiquences, in much the same way youd spoken to the keeper, im sure the "vet" would of been well aware of the lions capabilities and in the same way if your fox had been shot i would of fel

"She wore the collar so the gamekeeper and the lads round about knew she was the special fox - the one to leave alone" you taught her well, obviously such a specail fox that it would not kill pheasents/ducks/chickens etc.... im affraid i dont belive it.i know the odd kepper, very few would not shoot a fox in a pheaent pen, collor or no collor........ but then your right i dont know the circumstances and its neither here nor there. i do however know mouses circumstances....and know that you dont ........ "THATS THE POINT" mouse may smell funny and have people with girly hair in his

is it a nice fox. ive seen the odd fox, and to me he looks in good nick but craply put togther! if historically more crap foxes were dispatched and prime ones aloud to run on, say in deer control, then i would suspect we would have better stocks now, but very few ever look at it that way. still good pic, wink

i actually dont expect my bithces to work as the dogs do. mainly due to size and attitude, ie... my lines generally throw smaller bitches and bigger dogs (noticably). so the bitches wont take the knocks the dogs do. they naturally seem to throw bolting type bitches (mixers) and fairly hard dogs. so i cant compare the dogs to the bitches. howevre the golden rule is you have to breed from the dog that is best at what it does... i have no quarms about putting a hard type dog over bolting type bitch as i know the lines and pretty much know what to expect. but then i breed for own use and what
