Ditchshitter you said in one eloquent post what I'd love to have said in ten! Just keep on reminding us what we're really all about: part of an enormous jigsaw puzzle of life.

What age is the pup?

I learned a lot fungi when I lived in France: they love them over there, and you'd never see mushrooms kicked over like you do here. Really p*sses me off when I'm out mushrooming and they've been smashed by idiots just for the hell of it: probably just because they don't know what they are and think they're poisonous.

Question, How many people run purebred running dogs?
skycat replied to Autumnbriar's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Dear Kate I have stayed well away from this debacle until now, but I'm afraid I must agree with the general consensus of opinion here, which is that you obviously have some sort of chip on your shoulder: not everyone is out to 'get' you, so why are you out to 'get' everyone else? We are allowed different opinions on this forum (believe it or not!) Are you deliberately trying to set the other members against you? Some of your initial posts would appear to be doing just that! At the end of the day beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and in the UK most working dog folks do not run -
Good for him: I don't get crows in my garden but my tiny little Modern Game cock sends the collared doves packing: actually that's weird, I've just remembered..found a dead collared dove under a tree in the garden the other day: I wonder........

Me, I bloody hate the summer: too hot for the dogs, lush green stuff everywhere, trying to find somewhere where the dogs aren't madly running squeakers in head high grass is nigh on impossible. Sorry, rant over: roll on autumn!

I reckon its far more likely her hormones are starting to kick in: doesn't mean to say she's about to come in season, just that she's sort of pre puberty and starting to smell different. As you only had the dog done 5 months ago his instincts will still be very strong. We had a dog that had been castrated at about 5 years: he actually tied with one of our bitches when he was about 7 years. I always notice that my adult bitches start paying an interest in the younger bitches at about 8-10 months, often humping them a bit and generally getting excited, though it could be another 6 months

...and think of the problems that must occur when a small boned dog like the Whippet carries that sort of muscle: I pity the poor dogs.

The situation gets worse! Having finally admitted that badgers are the cause of the spread of bovine TB, they are now saying that it would not be cost effective to instigate a large enough cull to make a difference to the spread of this disease. If only they had the sense to allow a cull by (possibly?) licenced terriermen over a certain number of months per year, they could get the job done for free and very efficiently too.

I've seen several lurchers competing at scurries: and one who used to do very well indeed, which p*ssed the gun dog owners off a bit. I don't see that there's a problem letting other dogs enter so long as you don't let everyone and their pet dog have a go which ends up being farcical when the owner doesn't have a clue and neither does the dog. If you set it up to look professional the pet owners won't dare enter anyway! The CLA allow lurchers to compete in their scurries and if THEY do then why shouldn't you. P.S. I'd better get practising! LOL Are you having a water retrieve or i

I've seen that pic before I think: stunning dog: a 'proper' lurcher. It doesn't surprise me that he won, especially with Bromily judging: he used to keep lurchers of a similiar ilk if I remember rightly. -

I'd really love to go one day: but with the amount of livestock we have it's a no-no: unless I invest in a lorry and bring them all! LOL Have a good day or two you all. -
Best wishes to your family: it can't have been easy. RIP.

very good! Edited to add: Still can't spell LOL

Nice one DS: but isen't the ultimate the Deaths Head Hawk Moth? Saw one many moons ago when I was but a little kid: I could hear better then and it DID squeak like a mouse: I chased it with my little legs going hell for leather over 2 fields (I was about 10 years old if I remember rightly) as it zoomed ahead of me taking the p*ss, then I fell at a style and watched it vanish into the evening. That was in Cornwall: as I said: many years ago. Never seen one since.

It's far from uncommon LB! I have had 2 like that recently: they do grow out of it, but you need to be careful it doesn't develop into a habit as well. I tend to take this sort out only on their own until they have grown up a lot: serious work usually sorts them out: I can't even point the finger at any particular breed or type of lurcher: it's just the individual nature of the beast: usually very high energy and intelligent with it. Can you exercise the pup where there are plenty of rabbits to occupy her mind and body? Once these little darlings know what they're born for they usually come

Is it dry skin? Or an allergy: I've had to put 2 of mine on Piriton cos of a grass seed allergy. If it is dry skin get some animal fat into her: before I got all my dogs on 100% raw meat and bones several of them used to have dry coat and skin: not any more. If you can't get animal fat such as breast of lamb, beef trimmings etc then get some Evening Primrose Oil into her: capsules from health food shops, or Cod Liver Oil: do not exceed half the stated adult does.

VEry nice birds: is that a bully goldie in the second pic? Lovely.

Look who just appeared on my lawn

Tell us then: don't keep us in suspense! -
Yes, I've seen that a couple of times: they reckon it is similar to cradle cap or what they call 'infant' excema. It usually disappears over a few weeks. Just make sure the dam is getting an adequate diet. there are one or two nasty diseases that have dry skin as a side effect, but don't get worried unless the pups are not well: it's very unlikely to be anything other than dry skin. Some people reckon it might be something to do with the bitch not cleaning the birthing fluids off the pups well enough, but I don't really know.

Just look at those Bedlington ears! He looks great.

FREE FREE FREE! I've still go an endless supply of FREE meaty bones and chicken carcases for anyone who wants to collect: there's even half a pig from a hog roast in my freezer at the moment: I'm sick of cold pork: you can only eat it for so many days LOL. PM me if interested: this is an ongoing supply. If I contacted you before and told you that it was sorted: well it ain't: folks aren't taking enough!

The only time kennel cough is dangerous is to dogs with weak lungs: can turn into pneumonia, or stressed, old or dogs with little or no immune system, such as dogs on steroids (prednisalone). Most dogs cough a bit, are a bit lethargic, may have a temperature, may or may not cough up phlegmy stuff. Most of mine have had it at one time or another as I live very near a large animal shelter where it is pretty much endemic. If the dog doesn't want to eat much cos of a sore throat then feed sloppy food it can swallow easily. Absolutely NO running either in play or working until at least a fort
