  1. I'm glad there's a few people that speak sense.
  2. And do you think any keeper that values his job would flatten the foxes to save his pheasants when his boss doesnt care if they get eaten or not? If the boss wants to shoot pheasants but also wants foxes on the ground for the hunt, and he is willing to pay for the losses, why would any keeper risk killing them all. Fair enough i admit those same keepers probably do shift or kill the odd litter on cubs here and there but of the two estates i know of, the keepers dont go out of their way to kill the foxes (i.e. no lamping, no snaring) As for norfolk shoots, look in any of the old books about
  3. So you dont know of or have never heard of a single shooting estate where the boss makes his keepers leave the foxes for the hunt? I know of a few, and its pretty simple really, they just have to release more birds to account for the extra losses due to their lack of predator control. Admittedly, very few wild birds shoots will make money, but i never said they would, most are privately owned shoots, not commercial shoots. Have you ever been down to Norfolk where there is alot of large wild bird shoots that are shooting alot of game? Some people are more interested in shooting real wild gam
  4. In that case, how come a good few keepers on estates that release birds can get away without killing foxes (i.e. they are left for the hunt). Not killing vermin on a shoot that releases its birds wont ruin your shooting season, it just means you will get lower returns. But those shoots can budget for their losses. Whereas on a wild bird shoot, if you didnt kill the vermin, every bird you loose counts because they cannot be replaced. Are your opinions are based on fact and have you have worked on both wild bird shoots and released bird shoots? Or are your opinions just that, your own ill-in
  5. Sorry mate but you've got that the wrong way round. The sole reason people release game birds is because it is easier than producing that same number of real wild birds. When it comes to wild birds, especially low ground birds such as pheasants and partridge, the main two factors that will effect your success are the weather and vermin/predation. Habitat and artificial feeding come second.
  6. If you have suitable land and the time to rear them, why not just do it properly like everyone else? Any self respecting grouse keeper wouldnt have anything to do with captive reared grouse. The day when people start releasing grouse like partridge will be the day grouse shooting is ruined.
  7. Why not call the college and ask about your application? I dont mean this to sound offensive but how do you expect people to help you find an apprenticeship or underkeepers job when u cant even make a phone call to check up on a college application. As said, get out and help as many keepers as you can, wether it be beating or helping out evenings and weekends. The more keepers that hear that you are a good, helpful lad the more likely you are to find a job. You certainly wont get handed one off an internet forum. As for college, wether you get in this year or not. Try and get y
  8. do u know what date it was out? or what month? i have most of them for the last year or so, cant quite bring myself to throw them out just yet lol.
  9. what fight did you watch .you should take a look at firthas record Your forgetting 90% of the people on this site could of been world class boxers if they wanted to and have all knocked out every person that looked at them funny
  10. Tyson fought very well and would of stopped Firtha in time, but i think it got stopped too early. I bet the he was praying for the bell in the third round, he done well to stay up. That effortless jab from fury looks like getting hit by a mell!!
  11. Thats probably because of the plum in your mouth... Out of interest Greek Phil, what is your background when it comes to gamekeeping/shoot management. You seem to class yourself as a bit of an expert and it seems that you try to belittle anyone else that has a different opinion to you. As for shooting english partrdige... Unless you have a shootable surplus then they shouldnt be shot at all. The game conservancy can provide alot of information on what your shootable surplus may be on a given piece of ground. Releasing reared greys is not the way to boost numbers unless there is no wil
  12. Im sorry, i bow down to your superior intelligence. Carry on with your pathetic squabbling as it quite clearly shows off how great you are. What great advertisement this thread is for both 'organisations'... even if i was desperate for beaters i wouldnt bother with either!
  13. Am i the only one thinking "give it a rest"?! You pair sound like school kids in a feckin play ground.
  14. i met my lass in the doctors waiting room, we've had alot in common from the start cause we were both getting tested for the clap... 8 months on we have our first baby to go with her other 4 and were getting wed next month. shes loads better than the other 3 ive asked to marry me. also turns out alot of her family are also related to me too, gona be a reet good do at the wedding.
  15. a bit off topic but doesn anyone know if pat macalese boxed on the undercard. i heard he was meant to and just wondered if anyone knows how he got on. thanks.
  16. Most people underestimate stoats. They dont cause as much trouble with released game as they do with wild birds. But with wild birds they are a major problem to gamekeepers, especially on grouse moors. When theres a shortage of ground nesting birds then they will generally take more rabbits but on the fell ground where nearly everything nests on the ground they will mop up chicks like no tommorow. A litter of young stoats will easily kill 50 chicks between them before they start moving out into there own territories. Alot of grouse moors that arent producing many grouse tend to blame it on
  17. I can understand the people you are on about walking round shows with a big bull cross trying to look the big man but its got f-all to do with camo clothing. Ever thought they wear it because its comfy, or incase it rains or gets cold? One thing that does make me laugh, ive seen a few lads walking round shows with their bellman and flint magnet clipped on their belt. Now that really is just showing off for the hell of it.
  18. Not sure Mr Clark needs reminding just how wonderful he is! Hello again Its good to see Clark getting some recognition. He's a super keeper and well liked by his staff. Not sure whos taking the urine and whos not
  19. Quite sad really that david haye had to make excuses about a broken toe and not being able to push off his right foot. I would give him alot more credit for admitting that he got beaten by a better boxer. But now i think hes just a sore loser.
  20. This isnt aimed at just you alone, but i see alot of lads on here asking for info on colleges and asking for jobs. If you cant do a simple search on the internet and find out for yourself or make a few phone calls then it doesnt really look that great. Im all for helping out young lads but there must be 100 different topics in this section asking pretty much the same question and it gets a bit tedious reading posts from lads expecting college courses and jobs just turn up out of nowhere.
  21. i wear a baby blue shell suit and matching timberland boots. if its raining i wear my 50 cent style flat peak.
  22. On the subject of nets... has anyone used the nets with two pegs (one at the top, one at the bottom)? Ive seen them for sale at shows but never actually seen one being used? Isit a fad or what?
  23. People that only do about 50mph down the slip lane when joining the motorway and then just pull out regardless of whats coming. I generally try and get up to 60 then i can speed up or slow down so that i dont pull out in front of anyone. Ive had it a few times when drivers just pull out without even looking and expect any cars in the slow lane to just automatically dodge around them.
  24. Ive never bred a dog myself, but like has been said it depends what you class as failing. I personally think every terrier has its off day. They arnt machines. It wouldnt put me off having a pup from parents that i know had 'failed' once. But if it was a regular thing then in my eyes its a shit terrier and should not be bred off. Its down to each person wether they cull a dog or not for failing, but as for breeding, i believe only terriers that are truely worthy of breeding should be considered! Too many people have an average dog and want to breed from it. Wether that is to start off some sor
  25. As you must of missed my post before.... Hedz31 - If you had a dog in your kennel that had worked faultless for 3 or 4 seasons. Then one day you break through to it holding its quarry mid pipe and it lets hold and you have to get a second mark and dig again. Would you honestly cull it and not give it another chance?
