  1. Deaf ferrets pose potential behavioral and training problems. Deaf mother ferrets may be more likely to injure their babies, because they can't hear them cry. Deaf ferrets also seem to be more prone to biting, given that they are easily startled and will immediately try to defend themselves. Additionally, they are more difficult to train, because they do not respond to your voice commands. Because of the challenges posed by deaf ferrets, particularly for beginner owners, responsible breeders should be more careful about breeding for color patterns not associated with hearing problems.
  2. Bloody hell, I was wondering where you were. You have a similar amount of knowledge of working, 'Lee'. Your knowledge of genetics is somewhat sparser though.... Find me a reference that proves a 'working' gene and I'll believe you. Until then, I remain sceptical. While you're at it, you could find a reference that says Waardenbergs is contageous waardenbergs is cotageous? Ove the year i have had ferres i have never found this to be the case WHY purley because it is not the case. droid trying to be humourous Ive argued that not one case of Waardenburgs has been proven in
  3. Think you might be a bit late on When do they come into heat, they are not playing they are breeding, id say separate them now your jill is prob swollen at the back end, and then in 42 days from when this started you will have kits but you will prob find that most will die as it is a bad idea to breed silver to silver due to genetic defaults.

  5. if licky on ebay you might pick up a mk 1 with one colar for about £60 during the summer.
  6. Iwent out this evening with my air rifle to shoot some rabbits but it not a patch on going out with ferrets, but the 7 i got are now being eaten by the ferrets.
  7. So you say the instinct to work isn't the same in all ferrets. Mind, from what you've said, that seems to be more to do with the temperament of the ferret. Hey droid have I ever told you this very same thing? Totally agree romany52 we have a similar amount of knowledge making 100yrs between us of keeping/working ferrets,I predict this thread will deteriate from here on due to droid believing that (a)all ferrets will work and( you cant breed for work because there isnt a gene for it Y.I.S Leeview This is getting very interesting, i think that all ferrets will work given the chan
  8. wullie Ive had a castrated hob that would mount jills in season and take them out of season and regular as clockwork they would be back in season 8weeks later Y.I.S Leeview ideal, this is now having me thinking why some neutered ferretswill still have the horn and others wont, as for 8 weeks if put with a vas hob id be expecting atleast 12 weeks but then it could all be due to the amount of light the jills are gatting, Thanks for the advice Leeview.
  9. Hey 'the one' how about us inventing ferret condoms! Stop std's and also wouldnt need a vasectomised hob! You would still need a vas hob as i have seen nutered ferets mount jills and Fcuk them stupid but in the end they are still left in season, so even though they a neutered thy must be somthing that goes on to take the jill out of season. And why not just use one of your own condoms ....lol
  10. Piture of ferret that came into the rescue with ticks there was weel over 100 as i removed just short of that then 3 sprays of front line on latex gloves rubbed over the body killed the rest.
  11. Kay is right there will be a mixed bag but you will prob find that atleast 75% are coloured and the rest are albino, As fore pure albino then id say no as will have so much of the gene from its parent that it might pass onto its next litter.
  12. let me know if you need any help if first time breeding and i will pm you my number mate.
  13. But he will have to worry if he gets hobs when they comeinto season as will prob fight unless he gets there nuts cut off. why does everyone automatically say hobs will fight if kept together maybe it would be better to say, may fight, otherwise my three hobs that are intact, and have lived together for three years, must be doing something wrong read the post again and you will see i said will prob fight.and this is nature mate

  15. Good to see that you enjoyed your day out catching rabbits, "with hobs too" even better, i would say get any type of ferret you wish mate as ive never seen a ferret that will never go down a hole, but some will be very sulky when trying to get them to come out of a hole even ones from proven great working lines. The hutch you bought just be carefull as the pet shop types seem to be the ones the ferrets manage to escape from very quickly you can also buy of make a probe to help when out ferretting it is a T bar piece of metel rod and when you have got near to where your ferret is you us
  16. ECE is very easily picked up on clothing & shoes ... people going to shows all over the place etc ... its not exclusive to vasectomised hob sharing Yes Kay i am very aware of this but Ece and STIs can be passed on by a vas hob and people should be made aware of what might happen if they share dont you agree. I have never heard of any std's being passed about by anyone to be brutally honest.. what std's are ferrets susceptible to ? Ok mayb not as much as sdi but sexually transmitted disease, can be the likes of ece and others, but there is infections known to ferrets if you w
  17. Who saidything about a two headed ferret, I also have my own working line of ferrets, and if i breed in witch i do every 3 yrs or so to keep it going i know my line will go to my friends as i will only breed one jill if however there is not enough to go around then that is tough but my line is strong and i see the rescue as helping unwanted ferrets find a home if either they have been found or having to be surrendered due to the likes of a family break up, yes i do not neuter because the rescue simply can not aford to do this at a cost of £58 per ferret. but there are lots of people out the
  18. Chimp=Primate =idiot Rabbits choose to breed, ferrets are bred by there owners, so a Jai said if you working stock is so good then why not sell any excess on rather than killing them, .... i tel you why cause you have not got a clue about ferets mate what you know you could write on a stamp atleast i know not everything but alot about them as i have studied them for a good few years, and as i see it if i help one person on this forum then that is good but there will always be :wankerzo4: like you that keep poping in just to keep an argument going, lets be honest mate you know fcuk all about
  19. Well said Jai but doubt we ever change the attitude of some folk mate
  20. True what i read on this forum 30% are good guys and 70% like chimp are :wankerzo4:
  21. Rabbits are vermin mate ferrets are not we as humans choose to breed the ferrets where rabbits breed them selfs but then again looking at your name Chimp= primate = no bloody wonder.
  22. As i do not hunt for foxes i cannot and will no comment on this. But i do however ues both the mkt 1 and mk3 locator when out with ferrets, and who said lost one when out hunting? there has been many a post of ferrets escaping from there hutches in the last couple of weeks. as for the rabbits i go with friends, we split the takens as well as giving the land owner soeme. straw i ight get for free if i asked but dint but shavings they dont use. and not all ferrets that come into the rescue will eat rabbit some have been brought up in dry biscuit and that is all they will eat. ....mot my doi
  23. culling has been done since day dot and isnt it funny as soon as people like you turn up it all goes to shit and there is unwanted ferrets everywhere so killing makes it right now since it been done from day dot? I dont think so mate think you need to get wise to the fact that what you do is cruel and theris no need, ....in simple terms if you cant find homes for what you breed then do not breed.
