  1. All i was saying about the silver gene is that is its a weak gene, a mutation, and whilst most common to cause problems silver x silver, it can be found in none silver ferrets, and when expressed in the litter can (not always) be expressed in other forms of mutation and deformity. Just life mate, not much you could have done. I'd cull whats needed and then not repeat that mating.
  2. Thing is albinos are ultimately also a mutation, and do seem more prone to problems than poleys.
  3. Out of interest mate, what were the jill and hob?
  4. Sorry i see what you mean now, the second ferret. Albinos do tend to have various whites in their coat, if that makes sense. I thnk WB is more like the white on the BEW / light poley in the first picture.
  5. Question for ya ,, the ferret is a albino that has the white stripe , thought waardenburg syndrome only effected coloured ferrets ????? I wasn't saying that ferret had it, i was just giving the info for general curiosity. Out of interest how can you see a white stripe on an albino ferret?
  6. I seen BEW sandy's silver's/mitts 15 years ago ..tends to be the broken polecat gene from what i understand Fair play. I know they have been around for years in the pet trade, especially in America. But until i got on here i never realised that folk actually worked them.
  7. These conditions of course are WAY more prevalent in BEW and silver ferrets. Out of interest can anyone tell me when they first came across a BEW / Silver / Mit type 'working ferret'. Because up until i signed up on here i had never seen one, every working ferret i had ever met in my life was - Albino. Polecat. Or Sandy. And that was it!
  8. Aye mate it does, i think my nan had it, so i'm f****d. Well she had black hair with a white badger streak!
  9. Most of them just want to be 'on the front lines fighting them' whoever 'them' is, they just need a cause to be angry about. Met plenty of their type, and they are the same folk that would join up to the hitler youth.
  10. and i guess nobody picks up on the deafness ?? Hard to tell with ferrets for the most part mate, especially if you don't have many, or you havn't had many, you probably assume it's normal. They are very good with their sense of smell etc. I have a blind old girl here, works fine, runs about the court fine, does everything the other ferrets do. But you need to speak to her when you approach her. And she knows the difference between me and my friends, my girlfriend or my old man, by voice and smell. I'm also myself not 100% sure it always causes total deafness, but it definatly wea
  11. You see a lot of these skinny, pale, almost blueish looking ferrets about, seen a few on here, and they defiantly have it mate. The big problem is its too easy to breed ferrets and most dont no much about them in reality, and breed specimens that probably shouldnt be adding their blood to the gene pool.
  12. "Waardenburg syndrome is known to occur in ferrets. The affected animal will usually have a small white stripe along the top of its head or a solid white head and a somewhat, although barely noticeably, flatter skull than normal ferrets. As a ferret's sense of hearing is poor to begin with it is not easily noticeable except for when the affected animal does not react to loud noises that non-affected ones will respond to. As the disorder is easily spread to offspring, the affected animal will not be used for breeding by private, reputable breeders, although it may still be neutered and sold as
