  1. normally dehydration would cause increased heart rate- effectively there is less blood and the bloods thicker - harder to pump and therefore the heart has to work harder and beat more. also he seems to be dribbling more which goes agains dehydration too - its odd, the vets are completely confused, but one things for sure the dog aint well..
  2. his ecg showed his heart was healthy, just slow - having had a drip for 24hr that should have helped with the dehydration, so whats confusing is why is it slowing - do you know what your dogs resting heart rate is roughly?
  3. he has been off his food for a while, but just started eating a bit, but the vets took it at 60bpm, then went down to 40 yesterday at the vets and is now at home and its between 32 and 38....??
  4. hi all, was wondering if anyone could help. our saluki pup has been really unwell over the last week and the vets have no idea whats up with him. he has has xrays, bloods, liver tests, ECG, the lot. and nothing seems to be 'wrong' with him, but he didnt eat or drink for 3-4 days, was sick and ended up on a drip and 48 hours in the vets. a week ago he was running round fit as anything. - no sign of infection, poisoning, obstruction.... one thing they did pick up though was he had a very low heart rate - does anyone know what a salukis resting heartbeat should be - or if you have one could
  5. ive had a few heart stopping moments, my bitch jumps or takes the easy option if ther is one, however a couple of times shes almost balanced on the top rung of a gate or fance and sprung off - anyone else had this - i saw a lamb one jump a gate and get it leg caught in the top two bars and just snap it.. this would be bad news! any tips for encouraging them to clear it rather than sping off the top rung? looking forward to seeing Ace jump though dan - sould make those lamping nights a bit easier on your old back!
  6. good comments and i appreciate it. i think you have hit the nail on the head.. its definatley a relase of energy sparked by the instinct to hunt. ive been upping the amount of play she gets with dummies and skins which is also helping and have had some success over the last month or so - i think im always going to have to be careful with her though. think i might build her a coursing machine for the summer - that should help forefill some of her need in the off season months. 7. cheers for the replies guys. does help and i think makes sence. am moving to a bigger house with a good secured garden on sat whcih will help - it has definately started with being in the house we are in at the moment, over the last 6 month. we have made some progress over the last month or so but think there is a long way to go yet. she ran last night with a big deer x grey and was a bit better though still knocked it over... it snapped back and she backed off a bit when i told her.. checked with the owner before i let them run. the pups my g/fs and i make sure that i still spend a lot of tim
  8. got collars, but reluctant to use on agression - good back up for reinforcing recall, a little tap on the shoulder. only had to use it a couple of times - lot of open fields, roads and long ears near us.. can be a bad mix! - larger quarry.. well ragged a couple of just shot when we've been out lamping - sure nothings bitten back though.. but she was well fired up, put her off rabbits for about 10 mins - she'd been wound up by next doors dog coming to our back door, then got hold of it a few weeks back - could be a bit of a combination of things.. any idea bout sorting it or just got be careful
  9. After a bit of advice or if anyone else has experienced similar.. my saluki whippet is coming up to about 3 now, shes always been very quite on the lead and has always run with other dogs off the lead.. over the last 6 months or so she has been slowly getting rougher when shes off with other dogs, our other dog 10 month saluki, mates lurcher and other dogs she knows and doesnt know - reactions always the same. all starts off fine - running chasing etc.. then she gets her hunting face on, drops back and runs the dog down, often bowling it over by a good strike on the collar or back - then s

  12. this is my girlfriends pup, shes got good choice in dogs! hes a pure saluki, this was him a few months back, hes now 9 months, 26" and about 23kgs and still growing. hes coming on well though not let him loose on anything yet - still working on hes recall which is very good, retrieve which is coming on well but dont want to rush him. hes found a few more gears this last month or so, showing good potential i think.
  13. similar problem with my dog - she got better with age, shes now much better in the day but still misses strikes at night - shes got the speed, she's all over them and got much better at choosing the right lines and pushing them out into the field. also if shes chasing my other dog whoes 18 months younger she bowls him over and hes got 6kgs on her! id be interested to see if anyones got any tips on improving the strike, or do some dogs just never get it?
  14. cheers, supprised this didnt generate a bit of discussion
