  1. I got banned twice from there. They thought I was a bunny hugger and an anti. I tried to convince them that I was a human being with a terrier and a lurcher but to no avail and off I was chucked - twice. TBH, I was quite hurt but life moves on and I then found this board (well, the old one actually) and have received useful advice and help over the past few months. So thank you very much for letting me stay here on this site. I am still not hugging bunnies but am someone with a terrier (and a lurcher) who is trying to learn the best way to look after them..... and some useful hun
  2. Right, my patt bitch is 6 months old - yes, I know she is too young to breed but I am thinking ahead. Anyway, I am wondering whether to breed from her. If so, what age? What sire? Where I live there is very little game and she is mainly a family pet. My reasons for doing it are:- 1. She is lovely and it would be nice to have her progeny (I would keep one). 2. I have friends who want her puppies now (but probably wouldn't when the time actually came as circumstances always change). Reasons not to:- 1. Lots of unwanted dogs, espcially Patts who would be very happy here
  3. Thanks for the link and the info - fascinating. The mother is divine - she is just my type of dog (bitch, really!). Hope the pups are still gorgeous. Pignut
  4. Lovely looking pups. Seriously strong and with good solid bodies. Nice stance too. I like the mum, too. What breed is she or cross? Sorry to be thick, what is JAGD? Pignut
  5. Sweet - I also liked the tug of war! I also liked seeing that they had toys everywhere too. You have inspired me to dig out film of my Patt pup and lurcher playing. Pignut
  6. Well, we did try. Sadly saw no rats but the odd rustle and the dogs went wild and were well up for it. Patt pup did brilliantly, she got the scent and knew exactly what she wanted to do. She looked and hunted and was very business-like (never unsure or came for a pat or reward). She followed and watched the other more experienced dogs and was searching, looking and not "going for a walk" but working hard. I was most impressed. They took us into lots of sheds with rubbish in bags (it is a recycling centre too). Patt pup marked a bag and dug and dug and came out with a dead rat bu
  7. Patt has had her normal jabs (originals and booster) as a pup - are those the jags you mean?
  8. pics when the event happens (if we catch anything - not holding my breath!). Thanks for the advice about the antiseptic wipes - good one!
  9. I have been offered the chance to take my 8 month old Patt ratting at the local tip. She is a very keen dog and I am wondering if there is anything specific I should do or look out for! (sensible questions only, please). Is she old enough? She will be going with an experienced collie and lurcher who are very very fast and quick. Thanks
  10. Well I would have thought so. If you rug up a horse or keep it in a stable, it does not grow a winter coat so I would think the same applies for dogs.
  11. This is my Patt at 8 months old. I am a photographer by trade so they are a bit arty farty! The black one is her full sister (same litter) who is completely different and does not belong to me!
  12. Well, question in the title really. Where do you keep your terrier - in the house or in a kennel? Is your terrier part of the family, ie a pet or a worker or both? Thanks Pignut
  13. Glad you got her back. Did your friend know she belonged to you? Did he get you over to surprise you that he had her? Seems abit odd to me, but i was not there so who knows. Well done. Pignut
  14. Mine is 8 months old now. She is the spit of Bess. What is Bess' breeding? Is she a working fell, a working lakeland, a patterdale, a terrier, or what?
  15. I have Sean Frain's book - which terrier was it? Can you mind? My terrier would make the grade - we have just had words about a rabbit and she does not feel like giving it up for anyone! Also buggered off with selective deafness yesterday never to be seen again, if she had had her way - thank the gods for an overactive 15 year old who rugby tackled her to get her back. "God loves a terrier" to quote the film, Best in Show (because no other bugger would!). Pignut
  16. Nelson, that nearer dog could be mine. Total replica. What breeding? Thanks
  17. Patrick, Thank you for your excellent precis of Mr Plummer's book. I am very grateful to you. Appreciated. I found this in a book - and I reckon the second one from the left is not dissimilar to mine and also the one top left who is looking away. So, yes, I thought my pup had a look of a Pinckney dog
  18. From your avatar, I can see you are still suffering greatly. Possibly seeing double!
  19. Brilliant photo - I want her - she looks beautiful! Anyway, here is a photo from the book which shows some Fells from Ullswater. Bean, IMO, looks like the one in the middle, so I think she is a throw-back to previous ancestry. The main reason I just want to clarify what my dog is (and what "breed" to call her) is that everyone always asks when they meet her and I want to get it right, and also have some proof to back-up my claims while so-called knowledgeable folk fall about on the floor laughing when I say she is a Patterdale or a Fell, as she really does not resemble today's dogs!
  20. Thanks for your replies. I want to know because I got this "Patterdale" bitch from a reputable home, Beanie at 6 months! Her sister and mother and father all look like Patterdales but she looks like this - sort of Border/Lakie cross but also like some of the "patterdales" you read about in books in the 1980's. I know she has Middleton in her but her family really do not look like her in any way at all! She is not a rescue but when I was looking for a Patt, I did ask the Rescue lot what they had on their books. I showed the Rescue lady a photo of Beanie and she said she did not
  21. ..... and your point is what precisely? I can ask who i like without being judged by you. If I want to rescue a dog, give it a better home, offer it a life of unlimited walkies, with a 50 acre garden, then I bloody well will without you making judgements about someone and somewhere you know nothing about. So back to my question, could someone please help with a sensible reply. Thank you.
  22. I have a few books on Patterdale/Fell terriers and I would like to know the difference between the types. I was told (by someone in the Patterdale Rescue world) that a Patterdale is black and Fells are either black/tan or red. Is a Fell terrier a name that encompasses all types of terriers as well as Patterdales? Please can someone explain clearly, in worlds of one syllable for me. Thanks Pignut
