  2. very nice! Well done. Pignut
  3. I trained my lurcher not to chase sheep by walking him past masses of sheep for two weeks everytime I had a minute. I would put him on an extendable lead and take a dressage whip (long and springy) with me. Everytime he looked at a sheep, he got a whack. He learned very quickly. Now, he is fine. It took time and alot of input. He soon learned that sheep were not interesting. Some dogs will not learn though and it doesn't matter what you do.
  4. I know of dogs around here (and sheep are everywhere) wearing electric collars. Farmers shoot and then ask. No one cares if a dog is shot for worrying sheep. It is the law of this land. I would try an electric collar and get his attention. See if you can borrow one off someone first as they can be alot of money. Also, sounds silly I know, but don't mention it to folk - the bunny huggers can get very silly over electric collars.
  5. Glad to hear a happy ending. I dreaded reading your post. Well done.
  6. Find someone with a couple of rams and put him in a pen with 'em. They will scare the bejaysus out of him. Won't take long.
  7. We'll see! OK, we have rather a shortage of large game on my island, but she is down every bunny hole, dragging out and carrying every bit of carrion, running with the lurchers, learning off 'em, and enjoying being a dog. When she met a polecat, I had to drag her off. She wanted it dead. I sent her down a tunnel to guard a runaway animal and she would not leave and was in for the duration. We had to drag her off again. So, as I say, we shall see.
  8. My Patt bitch started to do that at about the same age. I gave up giving her breakfast and she just has dinner. She leaves less now and only what she don't want and seems fit and healthy. You could try varying the diet abit, adding some veg or a raw egg. I wouldn't worry too much. If she looks good and is active, you are doing the right thing.
  9. Well I have a seven month old Patterdale bitch and she is a house-dog but will work if asked and she does not give up! She is a really game little bitch and has not been nasty to anyone. She is first in the queue, goes everywhere with me, has good manners and can be called off game if required. She understands how to behave and is very social with other dogs and seems to be fairly indestructable! I think this is because she has been brought up in a house with cats, dogs and children and has been expected to behave. She is not stupid - she does not argue with the boss - me! Good
