getting out of this stupid society
honesthunter posted a topic in Living Off The Land & Game Cooking
this dude says it pretty well. -
man thats creepy, its like your our ferreting doubles, i saw one of the pics and literally thought it was my dog and my mates dog, my spade and jacket, crazy similarities between the dogs particularly.

so had the pup out yesterday, at my neighbours vineyard and im only pis*ing about typing this because i am waiting on someone before heading out again, had 6 and a baby, my dog has only been ferreting once before (as i have said before, she is never going to be a world beater due to my lack of commitment when she was a pup) and the ferret i was using had never been. we were just setting up and i glanced about to see where the hound was, chewing what i thought was a lump of cow shit, turned out to be a baby rabbit, so thats one in the bag for the muppet, she went on to grab two more in nets

well, some are well established, proven crosses like the collie and bull crosses, you could go ahead and use an airedale over a greyhound and see what happens, i expect it would kill most anything but i am sure it would have downsides too, all crosses have downsides but the people that run them are rarely honest about these failings i run a proper mish mash, saluki x grey x deer x collie, with some whippet back in the line somewhere, if i am perfectly honest she aint all that, fast as hell and can stick with rabbits brilliantly, but she needs alot of practice on her strike, her catch ratio is

sounds kinda drastic, definately want her to run next to a made dog, and have a corker in mind, but he is miles away at the moment. the last time she ran with other dogs was with a mates beddy x and bull x she was fine with the beddy grey, but the bull x freaked her right out lol, she went off after one rabbit, and i was pleased to see her go for it, but then the big dog came up behind her and she heard him and sorta skittered sideways, like ''hey f*ck this i dont need the bunny, you have it big fella'' very funny to see but super pathetic from the beast. -

totally agree, i have been close to losing it a bit with her, but so far i am keeping myself in check. i know theres no point and it will go against me in the end. tbh i am in a way kind of glad she is a bit of a test for me. its all experience! -

i think its funny how people arent honest with each other on a hunting forum, it just isnt helpful in the end, to anyone, if you lie you will eventually be proven to be a liar and look like a to**er, i dont mind admitting that my dog that i love isnt very good at her job yet, and i am aware that faults in the dog are simply a reflection of faults in the owner. everyone is, but they generally wont admit it. sometimes even to themselves. the way i interact with my dog will alter over time until it suits us both just right. yeah i never get the time to go ferreting any more, (and my ferr -

didnt know it existed lol -
so i finally started the dog on the lamp, she is getting on age wise now, 18 months, has only caught one rabbit, and i helped a great deal, that was months ago and i was still ridiculously pleased that she had picked one up, but after that it went back to the same old, she will get behind them but not force any turns and just follows them up to the hedge where she then looks in for a moment and then comes back to me (unless she has just been released then she needs to run about a bit before she is atall obedient). but of course its all been daytime stuff, rabbits are always close to hedges, ha

so she got one the other night, with help from me and a convenient rabbit proof fence! twas only a baby but it was a successful strike she needed, she has easily got the speed and agility, but had been reluctant to strike, content running along next to them, after she got that one she was so much keener on the next! just want everything cut now for some proper courses! hh

the dog in your avatar is the spit of mine dude, where did you get it? the worst dog i have seen was my mates arselicking mongrol dog, brought it out ferreting to see if it got into it, it saw a few rabbits get killed and wasnt interested, when one got shot however he ran over after some encouragement. and licked the bunnies backside once or twice before coming back looking very pleased with himself.

im in the same boat, mine is 12 months right now, hasn't really seen much, and is still playful with most stuff she chases. she needs to see what its about before the season starts, and billions of bunnies everywhere at the moment. plenty of young ones for easy catches to get her going. on a side note, have any of you tried to catch a young rabbit, you know, one of the tiny ones, The way I see it, if I can do it, then there's no damn reason a purpose bred running dog cant. just gotta show the silly bitch how its done! my point is its easy as hell, I out ran one over about twenty metres, an

Post your Mixed Coursing/Lamping dog pictures here!
honesthunter replied to THLpatrick's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Fairplay, but maybe get him doing what he needs to do first. Trying to train two dogs at once is a bit of a nightmare, and i bet you will favour one, and one will get left out, or they dogs will just take themselves off and ignore you. Spend the summer getting him fit, learning etc, and try it all out next winter, and if you really do enjoy it etc, THEN start to think about doubling your pack. You shouldnt get a dog you dont KNOW you have the work for, but of course its your call. I'd be very interested to see what your lad can do, i bet he surprises you. good advice. start with the one -
Can't realy agree with that, mate ! Everything is continualy evolving, even dogs ! Just look at the coursing dog, the Saluki Hybrid is a relativly modern phenomenon, but is generaly accepted as the best hare coursing dog in the world, now ! Cheers. Thats true, I used to watch crufts and see these wee fluffy terrier types prancing and the commentator would say.... this dog was once used for badgers!!! I know its a bad example cos I personally hate the kennel club but you know what I mean and at the very least, I do lol. yeah mate what they mean is, 'before we got hold of t

If I had to choose between which animal for human consumption I would be I would definitely choose a park deer over a cow or similarly farmed creature... yet there are people who want this banned that happily munch beef. I would prefer to be shot without my knowing than I would be led into a slaughterhouse with my friends. properly good thread guys, haven't been on in ages, nice to log in a find that theres a decent thread kickin about. I hardly knew any species of deer apart from the main six in this country, very interesting.

will coursing ever be back legal ?
honesthunter replied to bratton's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
because you said something that someone didn't agree with, and that someone felt like exerting a little bit of the power they have got on the web and which they lack (and crave) in real life. live with it mate. its the world we live in. -

shoot the fecker , no mate get it on some heal work, day+night. forget the rabbits for a bit, go out with your gear on(lamp+bag .....) then when start walking, as soon as it pulls yank its head and say heal.If that dont stop it, do it again and pull the fecker of the ground.Ihad a bullx grey 26in 70lb, he was the same.stopped him pulling when walking around, but if he was going to be released on his quarry, he would pull then. So not as bad as pulling all night, you want some fire in there belly. bird that's some old school thinking dude, its all basic obedience. stopping walking when
