    Both really - looking for my first lurcher (only ever kept terriers and gundogs) and want a good all rounder really interested in deerhound x and also wheaton x any advice would be appreciated

    Does any one think they will be to heavy for rabbits as well ? I thought the whippet in em would bring about quite a racy lurcher or will they be too much wheaton in them ?

    Thanks for all the replys guys have found some info on the net. But fairly new to working gundogs so don`t know much (more terriers and lurchers). My mother has a fantastic retriever bitch who seems to show a lot of instinct for gundog work and she is wanting to breed from her and asked me to find a suitable stud dog. I would then hopefully get a pup out of that litter ! Any pictures mackay would be appreciated

    metz there is a gamekeeper who maybe breeding his bitch around xmas so they would be ready end of feb if all goes to plan. I might be having a bitch of him, but yet to see his dogs as i don't know him personally just been recommended by a couple of digging lads i know locally.

    i know a lot of people working borders to fox week in week out locally to me. Some are gamekeepers and one lad does the digging for the local pack of foxhounds. I personally like the breed but still think that 90% are shite and so long as the other 10% stay in the hands of workers thats ok as they carry on breeding worker to worker. you could say the same has happened to russells and lakelands maybe not to the same extent but still a large per cent of them would not make top quality earth dogs.
