  1. Ive just sent mine off to be changed to "open" ive had my FAC scince 2007, i just phoned my FEO, had a little chat, he asked how much ammo i had used. I go shooting all the time so had some serious numbers to give him and i was told to write a letter saying why i thought i was ready and quoting the number of bullets fired, and he said that it wouldnt be a problem getting it changed. P.S im with Avon & Somerset
  2. Sorry for the not very clear post. I shall just set this straight, that cow incident happened BEFORE i got into Centrefire rifles!! And as i say problem fox, i know farmers that would label a fox a problem fox just because thay fecking saw one!!! not that it was anywhere near their livestock!!!
  3. I personally try not to shoot any foxes this time of year because of the cubs, i have been out before this time of year after a call from a farmer about a problem fox, ive gone out with the lamp and rifle, lit up the farmhouse with the lamp and had a walk round, then let a couple of shots off at rabbits. Then if asked by said farmer if id hit anything if he heard the shot, i answer yeah! And, remembering that the money from lost stock to foxes isn’t coming out of my pocket, that’s what people that aren’t farmers have to remember, i recall back to a few years ago when a heifer had
  4. Ive got a .204 rem SPS Varmint, its a heavy barrel, its used for all my vermin shooting. i changed the stock on it (because it was like rubber) to a HS-Precision stock. Now when the stock was fitted it should have really tightened up the rifle, and it didnt, turns out that HS-precision stocks arnt really that precisie fit, ok it was better than the original, a hell of a lot stiffer but the "fit" was not great - there was still plenty of movement in the rifle . So i got it pillar bedded by our resident gunsmith, it has really "tightened up" the rifle, and i have noticed a difference in the sho
  5. There`s some sensible advice in there Zini, well done good video
  6. Hey, check the link, thats how border barrels do it... http://www.border-barrels.com/articles/shoot-in.htm
  7. oops... didnt see that, pic has been edited and chq in the bank lol
  8. ***** SMALL UPDATE**** Sorry for the small delay in the replying, as for time scale in making the stock i think it will be around 4/5 days labour, that’s without adding the traditional London hand oiled finish. But remember that the rifle stock is a custom thumbhole that started off as a rectangle piece of Walnut blank, the action had to be measured precisely for inletting of the action, length and the other dimensions of the comb. The next will take less time... Chris is now awaiting delivery of the Floorplate, there is a delay as they are on Back-order in the US........ anyways onc
  9. I use a bore guide on my bolt action rifles, you dont want any crud (solvents, oils, unburnt powder) dropping down into your trigger mechanism, and could therefore interfere with trigger movements and can just jam a trigger. Also there is the potential damage you could be doing to the throat of the barrel, and also stoping crud falling into your magazine compartment.. For the cost of the id suggest to get one .......there are also "universal" ones avaliable to suit a few different rifles/calibres with interchangable ends. Hope this helps
  10. My CZ .17 seems to like the 17grns Winchester V-max but not the 17 grns Hornady`s......
  11. I had a Docter on my .204, i thinks it was the 6-24x50.... or somewhere near that. Anyways i had the dot reticle, non illuminated - it was amazing in the day but at the lamp you couldnt make out the crosshairs as they were so fine... i now have a IOR sat on top. Cheers
  12. Ive been advised to keep well away from moly, also if it is used it takes some serious cleaning to remove from the barrel...
  13. RE: Sage You know id rather not talk about bore-snakes, or as i like to call them "rope that scrapes your crown and then snaps half way through fecking piece of shite" As for Lasagne you know thats my favourite pasta dish, always goes down well with a glass or two of shooters choice and light drop of Kano Kroil. If lasagne is on the menu be warned that after a delightful meal it will be followed by copius hrs of following this methord , soak, scrub, patch.... weather its one shot fired or 50 be sure to do the dirrrrty work when you get home! Ive learned that the ard wayz
  14. I thought it would be interesting to show a photographic diary of a custom stocking process on a .17 hmr rifle. The action is a Ruger M77/17 and is fitted with a custom Krieger 17.5 inch barrel. The chaps at UK-gunrepairs have previously pillar bedded my .204 ruger, that has in turn increased accuracy of the rifle, and i thought this would be an interesting insight into what goes on behind closed doors. The rifle is being built by one of the partners at UK gunrepairs (Chris) which should turn out to be a real eye catching tac driver! I cant see why not as the action and barrel has
  15. Ive got one on my .17 HMR, i find it pretty good for the cost, it gets a little "misty" at the top range of zoom. Although i would say it seems very good value... not sure if id use it on a centre fire tho. IMO - i think, that scopes in that price range are going to be around the same quality optic wise, unless you could find a used old Japanese Tasco with similar spec except the IR reticle. - the quality of the glass on them is very good for a budget scope. Cheers
  16. Forgot to add the VS stocks are made by HS Precision But for a "precision" stock, mine fitted like a sack, hence the bedding.
  17. Ive got a 700 sps Varmint in .204 ruger, first thing i changed was the stock, the factory sps v stock was like rubber. It had sooo much movement, so i put on a VS stock (from ebay US), it has a alluminium internal bedding block and had it pillar bedded, that has improved my accuracy and handling of the rifle. - by removing lots of movement. Trigger wise, they come set very heavy, far to heavy if you want an accurate rifle. if its a new one it should come with the X-mark Pro trigger, that is adjustable, just a couple of allen screws to adjust. If unscure get someone who knows whatt they ar
  18. Ive got a Lithium and i love it. IMO they are worth the money, makes lamping more enjoyable.
  19. Sound advice there Deker, thats the methord i find best
  20. Hello, well I have loaded some of my weight sorted cases.... They do actually shoot differently- the grouping was bigger from one to the other. So it dose make a difference...... I have friends that shoot .17 rem & .204 they swear by this methord.
