  14. quote . I will go against the grain and say Ive yet to see a good ratting dog start late. It may well kill in another month or so, but it will never be as good as a dog that as started early cant agree with you there mate one of the best ratting dogs i had the pleasure to go out with every wk was an absolute joy to watch work however the bitch didnt start till 18 mths. my cousin picked up two patterdale sisters one all black and the other black and tan the black one was a evil little t**t and was catching rats at 8 mth old and she was unbelievable my cousin tried all he
  15. i keep mine in the house because i dont want thieving b*****ds getting over the wall at the end of the day though if they want them bad enough the low life maggot scum(may their balls fester and drop off) may still have a go. i believe dogs kept inside learn more and are more intelligent they pick things up a lot quicker and dont get bored as much and training is easier yes they get pampered a bloody lot but i dont find this stops them working any harder for you if anything i think they try even harder.

  19. when you get the pup the lurcher will be 8 mths old and the summer will soon be upon us start some basics for the young dog before season starts ie breaking to livestock and ferrets this can also be done with the young lurcher if you havent already started by christmas the young dog should be used to mooching about with the lurcher make sure that you have them mooching together you will reap the benefits of the terrier knocking stuff out for the big dog to pick up, the terrier should start to look at a bit of ratting between 10-12 mths old dont rush it there is no need the dogs are only young
  20. quote. I havent pushed him at all, have just taken him out with the bigger dogs from around 6 months and just let him do his own thing. Hes really keen, gets keener every time I take him out. Theres nowt wrong with a bit of rabbiting, if you cant get any other kind of work for a terrier then its better than nothing at all JMHO my young pup is 17 wks old and will take more or less the same route as above found this has worked well for me over the last twenty yrs let them enjoy being puppies my pup will be ready at the start of next season but between now and then i have a lot of work to g
  21. very near the end of season and the young dog is doing well let her have a play for a few months before you know it the new season will be here.
  22. i have a strimmer it does the job.
  23. utter bollox mate hope all goes well for him what is the deer hound cross if they are saying the two of them are dangerous cant believe some of the s**t going on.
  24. i use the two and some points to take into account you dont have to wait for the smoker to come out once the rats have bolted job done move on to the next one as for bolting the rats quicker with a ferret try telling that to a big doe with a nest of youngsters also if your ferrets get carved up then its like your dog out of action for a week or two i must say though i love ferreting but with the weather getting milder every year the rats are breeding more throughout the year and are less likely to bolt as said with youngsters.
