Had my cz 527 since june, I had to buy a cheek comb raiser because the stock slopes away and when I shoulderd the rifle I had to adjust my head but since then been great, got a set trigger so I can push it forward for a nice light pull. Got a pes 12 stainless mod on it and use it with my nightmaster 800. Had a couple of misfires but that might just be a bolt strip and clean I have been told. Had crows out to 350 odd yards but mainly use it to shoot foxes out to about 200, Where in shropshire are you? You could have a go with mine to see what you think, im in shrewsbury Atb

I have used the remington accutip boat tail my cz 527 liked the 50 grain, but the gun shops around here did'nt keep a lot in so I have been using hornady 40 grain vmax while I'm trying to get my home loads spot on and they are great had a fox last night and its head was like soup!

Went out last night with my cz 223, shot a couple of rabbits heads off just to check the sights, all good, had a squeek at the back off the farm and picked up two pairs of eyes about 300 yards away, had another squeek left it for about a minute lamp back on and bugger one of them was about twenty yards away from the car! Probably a different fox anyhoo he was to close but had a shot and click! Misfire! By the time I reloaded he was about 100 yards looking back over his shoulder and I managed to put one through the back of his head, those 40 grain vmax really dont mess about! On the way bac

hi all, i,m after a bit of advice that i can pass on to a friend, he needs a dog for pigeon/crow shooting mainly but we do a lot of rough shooting, well a bit of everything really, what would be the best choice? we have been told to forget spaniels because they will not keep still in a pigeon hide, but then others have said forget a lab because it will not smash through cover, not sure on what to decide on I have more experience with terriers and lurchers so my knowledge is limited, please can anybody advise us what is the best all round gun dog?

it,s ok i have already fired 4 shots of each from 23 up to 27.5, then my best group was with 24 grains, but not brilliant, so i tried 23 up to 24 and 23.7 was clover leaf.
-
thanks for the replies, i am going to try a batch of 27.8, i had altered the bullet seating depth aswell last time so perhaps thats why my groups were better ?

just been experimenting with my reloads, using 40 grain v max heads with accurate 2460 and remington primers, got my groups really good now clover leaf at 100 yards, but to get groups like that have had to go down to 23.7 grains, my question is will the drop on the bullet be a lot more than factory ammo? I think using 23.7 gives me 3200 fps, factory ammo is 3800, with a drop of 5.5 inches at 300 yards, would anybody be able to give me an idea of how much mine will drop or is it just a matter of going out and checking? not being lazy but thought i would ask to save on powder and heads etc

will be getting a few bits and bobs from the midland gamefair for my reloading looking at these tumblers for cleaning the cases, are they worth buying or is there another way?
-
not a trick question to be honest i was worried about surface splash, with being a light bullet compared to some fox loads, was just curious to know if it was enough bullet to smash through chest bone and into the vitals, but enough said looks like I need not worry, going to give it a try anyhow as I have been target practicing and it is very accurate, see how I get on as I might buy the heads for when I start reloading, thanks for the replies

has anybody tried these? my local gunshop has run out of 50 grain which i use, do these lighter bullets drop charlie ok?

was out pigeon shooting on sunday, started slow but really got going in the afternoon ended up with 75, but had my rotary attacked in the morning, then in the afternoon had my a1 flapper smashed up, then to top it off the big hen peregrine took one of my double h decoys, would,nt of minded but them decoys are rare as rocking horse shite! wish i had my camera with me lovely to see them i suppose
-
hi mate good going that, just curious you say you were asked to control foxes on a golf course, what damage are they doing? i,m not knocking it in any way mate just wondered, is it because they are digging it up the greens for worms etc? once again well done bud

noticed my lurcher had a lump on his neck, took him to the vets, they said it,s nothing serious but want 500 quid to take it off, its about the size of a ping pong ball now, so i,m a bit worried about him catching it on something, better have it done but 500!
-
cheers mate i,ll do just that let you know how it goes, he is a very intelligent dog which makes it stranger, i,ll see what happens
-
yep just lately he is catching rabbits along side hedges or in cover then he will start bringing it back dead, then drop it 20 yards in front of me, start sniffing grass etc, really frustrating and no never used treats
-
he only does it daytime at the minute, as i won,t start lamping untill october, but he is not a pup, he is 4 and has always retrieved and i have always praised him when he has done so
-
hi all, i,m having a bit of a problem with my lurchers retrieving, when he catches a rabbit he will only bring it back half way then drop it, he has just started doing it which is strange, spent hours with him and the tennis ball covered in rabbit fur which he brings back every time, any ideas?

Foxes Or Rather A Lack Of Them
slipper replied to charlie caller's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
well calling it sport is just giving the antis more ammo, i enjoy my shooting but it,s simply pest control, saying you will not get rid of cubs because they will provide more fun to kill when they are bigger just puts us in a bad light, -
just been told by my local game dealer that i need a game handling license to sell him my rabbits, anybody know where and how to get one?

calling it sport is just making a rod for your own back, it,s pest control all the way, -
have you still got it?
-
is it the 3 inch chamber?

good advice there thanks very much, just got some cash on the hip was tempted to get the mtc viper 8x32x60, sure would have a scope full of fox, but listening to your advice something like the leupold vxr 3x9x50 with the firedot ret would be ok, all it is, is that i would like to get the best out of the rifle, and the odd wary fox that just sits there at 200-250 yards i thought i would need a high mag scope?
