  2. cheers mate, i,m just getting as much info as i can, before i start reloading, i,ve orderd a lee loader hand press, what powder do you use in your 223?
  3. hi all, how do I measure the distance from the tip of the bullet to the start of the rifling I read on here it needs to be 20 thou, Also could someone recommend a powder thanks
  4. what is the best cleaning spray for the rifling on my 223? is there anything i should avoid because i don,t won,t to damage the rifle. been using hoppes elite on my 22 and hmr will this be ok or is there something better, and should i put a alchohol patch throught it after? thanks
  5. so having to fire a few rounds to settle the barrel in is bollocks then, it,s ok i was told when i get my 223 i will have to put a few through it first, which i thought would be a waste, can i zero it with the first few rounds then? or should i clean after every shot whilst zeroing, to give a reading off a clean barrel?
  6. tidy, just been looking at the howa website, and you can built your own rifle, they have thumbhole stocks, stainless barrels hmmm.......... new shoes for the missis i think
  7. what would be the best sporter or varmint? stainless or blued does it make a difference, and what difference does the twist rate make? 1 in 8 or 1 in 9? it would be for foxing Am i right in thinking that the 1 in 9 is for lighter bullets and the 1 in 8 twist for heavier rounds over 55 grain?
  8. do i need to send photos with a variation?
  9. i,m not sure what model it was i,ll check in the morning,i know it was a 1 in 8 twist what difference does this make?, was,nt saying i will shoot the barrel out, as i only got out once a week and only see the odd fox but if say it was owned by a keeper for four years do you think the barrel will still be ok? also i forgot to ask about the mod, what is a good fair priced mod? thanks for the reply atb
  10. thanks pal, my budget is about 400 ish, how many shots can you put through them before accuracy drops off, like with the hmr i was cleaning every 10 shots to keep it on song, you,ll have to excuse me, i,m just after as much info as possible before i commit
  11. hi, just after some info on the 223, will be buying second hand, so is there anything to look out for, how long do the barrels last? my local gun shop has a cz thats about ten years old, and a tikka and a sako, all within my budget, so any advice on what to check, do the barrels burn out after time? Also i would be looking to reload, do i need to apply for anything for keeping the powder?
  12. thanks mate so is 222 ammo as easy to get as 223?
  13. well wanted something for long range foxes and crows it,s ok i,ll stick with the 223! it,s just that i saw a few advertised and i was just curious really

  15. I will be putting in a variation in soon for a centrefire, and I quite like the look of the 17 rem, has anybody had experience with this cal, for instance even though it is a very fast round how does it cope in strong winds? Any info would be very welcome thanks
  16. I unfortunately have to part with my border terrier, I will be honest and say he has never been to ground but does bush and catches the odd rabbit, he is six years old and I have had him since a pup, he is great with kids, he is a kennel dog, would make a good pet and companion, I don,t want anybody trying to make money from him, he needs a permanent home. Also I have for sale my patterdale dog he is the rough hair fell looking type from good working parents, he is four years old, and house trained very quiet in the house, he has had a fair few foxes, I did,nt enter him to fox until he was ne
  17. hi, i,m thinking of selling my hmr because it is no good in the wind, and i like to go lamping when it,s windy for obvious reasons, Been thinking about the wmr, so just to clear things up is the wmr more prone to wind drift than the hmr? also the hmr needs cleaning quite often, is this the case with the wmr? I need something that is ok in windy conditions, and is,nt such a pain to keep accurate
  18. I did not think you rude, and thank you for spending the time to write a very clear reply thanks again,
  19. thanks for the replies lads, i,m using 17 grain hornady, the reason i tried it at 45 yards is because sometimes I come across close rabbits, think i need to re zero at 100 yards and just keep a note of that chart for closer shots, it is just a bit annoying had a rook land about 30 yards away, I was expecting a puff of feathers but it flew off lol,
  20. I know this has probably been posted before so apologies but.... I have just had my barrel recrowned and the trigger played with so out I went to have a play, took a load of cleaning gear with me aswell, put the rifle in a rest and put a bubble level on it same with the scope just so they were inline First put a target at 45 yards, all good first 3 shots touching great, went out to yards and they were touching, inline with the bullseye but 1.5 inches high, then out to 120 yards and back in the bull Now I know its supposed to be flat shooting but any rabbits from 50 ish to 90 ish i,m going
  21. just to add, i was told that the bore snake can damage the rifling and crown, so mine is now in the bin, not worth the risk, something to do with the rope, when it gets hot as you pull it through it flattens the rifling and can take the 11 degree angle off the crown.
