I think any idiot who thinks a 'name' means jack shit on an internet forum, is missing something!
-

pre-ban, if you wanted a dog to run mainly hare and fox
HALTY LAD replied to robo-christ's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Like has been said, the saluki types as with any other type of lurcher should take fox no issues. But foxes are way slower than hares. To me it would simply be a fast dog with plenty of wind, regardless of breeding. -
No matter how much it tries, it would need to be a decent catcher to have a home with me. No point having a lurcher that puts in 100% but catches feck all is there? But I suppose everyone has different requirements and standards. I have several dogs here that are far from perfect, but they are here for the simple fact that they are good at catching what they were bred to catch.

I have a similar dog sat by my side, although old and a bit chewed looking now! I hope he does you proud.

I need lurchers with longer legs for this depth of snow! well over a foot, and deep as 7 or 8 foot in some drifts. But im out through the day, with mixed results. No lamping. Some game runs over deep snow well, some doesnt. Some dogs get grazed legs off the hard frozen snow, this is often bad enough to have a few days off. The tall lurchers with good coat and thick skin wil be earning their keep in many kennels shame I dont have this type to hand.

I see this place hasnt changed a lot! Well, my opinion on the subject would be that I really dont care, if some deluded twats feel the need to lie on here to boost their ego's, but its a sad state of affairs if this is done to help sales of pups On a personal note I think its best that I keep my game book records to me and close friends... dont want to make you all jealous
-
Great dogs people, my kind of dogs these. Mine are staying with a couple of good friends while Im abroad, hunting pigs and pumas with curs and a few strong dogs. If only I could take my bully lurchers over! They would be like pigs in shit! Il let ye lads know how I got on, on my return. In the mean time, have a cracking season, work em hard

non of anyones business, ffs pissing my self with that one fella, if its no-ones business why have you pasted pictures and info all over the internet for everyone to see? anyway, good luck with the pups fh, hey if you want to ask me anything feel free
-
my mistake, thought that you bred that blue bitch? but best you didnt with her heart condition despite liking a fox where did i say she had a heart condition? i took her out with the lurchers it was abit warm but not that hot and she straight lined a rabbit. she wasnt fit and i was new to greyhounds i didnt know you should not excersize them untill 12 hours after food. my fault realy she'd still be here if i new then what i new know. anyway like i said would you not breed from this bitch? as she aint the fastest on the track realy she a failure in the track mans eyes, but in the

track proves nothing bar pure speed fh, so you have done the right thing and worked the bitch in the field, better than some out there, so credit where its due get them pups hard at it, dont stand for failures and be prepared to bury some. set your standards high. do a good job for the farmers and have the best time in the world.
-
matey you say the ped means f**k all. your so very wrong, the ped and breeding of both the bull, aswell as the original greyhound used was the best of the best- in the breeding of the best bull lurchers. then you forget about crossing bull with grey, as you can breed best to best bull crosses, test em hard and cull the shite. this is how we made lines of game lurchers that make light work out of heavy jobs. that is the problem, people breed off bulls that have not been thoroughly tested and bred off tested lines, same as using retired track greyhounds given away for nowt as brood bitches
-
that is the sort of dog I like. mine were not so pretty. but of similar stamp.
-
leave 'em spaniards to it, otherwise your no better than the anti's
-
of course any old mutt can slay a fox! they are no test to a strong dog fool. Why would they shine in the USA ? feral pigs? yes I reckon they would work the feral pigs ok, but if you wanted you could test them all you want in this small island, why did you buy yours if you didnt have a job for it? mate, i dont like to knock anothers pride and joy, as its me that gets called blinkered. If the mastiff blooded dogs were better than the good line bred bull/greys we have I would be the first to sing their praises, but their not.
-
The mastiff brought quality of bone...in time the speed and agility has been put back. There is no lack of jaw power only someone who has not seen a good Alaunt would say that....But saying that my bullx bitch is allot faster than my alaunt thats why i have her...not for everyone but alot of fun and make there owner's happy. Im not going to say there beter than this and that because there are good and bad in all type's... there alot better mastiff type than we see waltzing round the show ring today so thats got to be a good thing. you say 'only someone who has not seen a good alaunt wou
-
Its apparent that even the owners of these dogs know that the addition of mastiff to a bull/grey was a bad idea, as they always breed it out again! The ONLY thing gained was bulk! but what was lost, was speed, agility and importantly for me, jaw power.
-
topper, you have got me all wrong. Im not in the least breed blind, but I utilise the types of dog that perform best for the jobs I do. Il say it how it is, no frills. Ive got experience with catching boars, both abroad and here in the UK, which vests do you use? homemade or bought in? If you have regular success with them, I wish you all the best with em and good luck, its a better and more suited occupation for this type of dog, rather than killin the odd red in a hole which any dog could do.
-
good honest post... sorry for your loss he sounded a nice natured dog
