  1. Some impressive digging going on here.
  2. I know they are big into it over in the US Pops. - Afghans, Deerhounds, you name it, all AKC reg. It makes me chuckle when these people say it preserves the "working ability" of the dogs. Earthdog in the US is even worse - they call their dogs "workers" if they go up a pipe and bark at a rat in a cage. If it wasn't so funny it would be sad.
  3. Never had a problem with Redmills, they do different grades to suit the animals activity level. http://www.redmills.co.uk/products.php?Cat=Race%20Dogs
  4. Interesing mix that. Should go well .
  5. There is a ready market of idiots who are taken in with this rubbish and are willing to pay good money for shite. A quick look on EPUPZ will confirm this. I honestly thought the Black and tan guy was a leg pull.
  6. A fella I know travelled down to somewhere near Nottingham/Derby to buy a Whippet x Greyhound pup a couple of years ago. The woman who bred the litter (she had 2 litters actually) assured him that the pups had all the big name ancestry in their pedigree i.e Sooty Sam and Top Honcho etc, etc, to cut a long story short, it seems that she is big into her lure coursing. The fantastic racy looking brindle bitch he bought that day hasn't really set the world on fire as a working lurcher, despite being given plenty of opportunities on permission with lots of game. Perhaps she's just a slow starte
  7. Interesting that you mention obedience Bosun, an obedience trial for lurchers, that would sort the good dog trainers from the rest. When you think about it, you see less and less Collie crosses at these events these days.
  8. I have noticed that in recent years, there has been a huge upsurge in lure coursing for lurchers. Nothing wrong with that I hear some of you say, as we all see plenty of posts on the hunting boards from people who obviously treat this as some kind of hobby. Noticably, some of these lure coursing folk never seem to put a hunting post up i.e. lurcher catching a rabbit or whatever. I am sometimes amazed at the distances some of the lure cousing fraternity will drive to "match" their lurcher against others in the pursuit of a plastic carrier bag. My question is simple, do the members of THL s
  9. I would say so i have never come across them the other way bred due to the size factor but have heard of a beddy dam put to a whippet sire.atb dell Seen a couple of litters reverse bred - Whippetx Beddy that is. A friends dog was bred that way - a real cracker. She's in J Glovers book, page 152, bottom pic.
  10. Black & Tan 40 years ago, my old dad used to keep a couple of Manchesters, alongside the Bedlingtons. I recall them as being quite a nervy jumpy breed, not the greatest of hunters ( The Beddies and Russels used to hammer them on the rats and rabbits, and foxes were out of the question) and generally quarellsome and a bit of a pain in the arse. When breeding lurchers out of a Greyhound or Whippet dam , give me 5 good reasons why would you overlook a good Bedlington (and I mean the proper type, not the white show variety) in favour of a Manchester terrier? May I ask what quarry do you wo
  11. I'll tell you who buys them - mainly lazy cvnts, who haven't got the time or the know how to bring on a pup, look after it, train it, break it to livestock, let it see rats, let it see a dig, then .... experience the best feeling in the world when the young dog goes solo. That's who.
  12. To say the dogs are stolen is a bit bit strong FTB. But 9 dogs for sale in just 22 posts smacks of peddler. The guys first post was dog for sale, so he's consistant if nothing else.
  13. nah the local to me The Savick? :clapper:
  14. The Manchester in B'pool?
  15. Still on - and working whippet show. http://www.broughtongameshow.co.uk/

  18. Bought one off him nearly 2 years ago. Still as good as new, and been out in all weathers. Edit to say that the dog has worn it in the thickest of cover, underground, and in water - no probs.
  19. Sad to say, but a boycott by the proper working terrier enthusiasts probably won't hurt the Great Yorkshire one bit. There are plenty of people out there who keep Russells, Lakies, Patts and Borders who NEVER work them. However, come the summer, they will drive considerable distances to enter thier pot lickers in "working" terrier shows. And the Lurchers are not much different. Never underestimate the lure of a 50p rossette.
  20. Brings back memories. Loads of episodes on here - I'm sure there was a ferreting episode? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c60R-zLskL8&feature=related
