  1. This is Rose just this week, doesn't seem 5 minutes ago since she was a pup in fact I still call her & Bear pups yet they will be 6 year's old on their next birthday. Even though she's had a broken leg & now has a 'bionic' leg she is my number one go to dog. Being brutally honest these day's I go more in hope than being confident, before her accident & before age started catching up with old Boots I was always confident when I went out,we rarely came home without having had a successful hunt. Times certainly have changed & when I was younger I'd not have accepted going out 'hoping' yet as I've aged I am content just having a wander up on the mountains & if we get lucky then great,if not well it's still all good to me. In recent year's I've been lucky to be able to get on some great lamping ground & even get chauffeured around the land by the farmer's son in the Gator,no looking over my shoulder & able to run anything & everything, park in the farmyard etc it's certainly not what I'm accustomed to. Again I'm able to go lamping with a gamekeeper,a great lad he is who again accompanies us & allows us to run anything at all,Rose is my usual companion when I go lamping & last season I even took old Boots numerous time's,it's not something I've done a lot with him but he knows the lamp really well, retrieves great & he thoroughly enjoyed it. I don't think we will be back out until Xmas Day morning,I usually take the dogs up the mountains before daybreak & half a few hours wandering around up there before heading home for Xmas dinner..

Awesome team you had I always thought Ruby acted as cover for you when it came to nosey people as in you couldn't possibly be hunting just a guy walking his rescued dogs lol

    ย

That was always part of it Chaff,no one expects a Pomeranian to be out hunting, she was a great finder of stuff & on more than one occasion led me over a mile in forestry to where quarry had fallen, she had a great nose on her. Many many year's ago now I gave up on all the camouflage/hunting clothing,I wear hiking gear, back pack, walking poles & take the dogs with hi-visibilty jackets on etc..times move on Chaff & what we once could get away with we no longer can matey.

Did he go up and down the gears fugi or was he a flat out speed merchant with a good strike.

The dog was called Nero,he killed a lot of hares over the year's plus other stuff too,I've seen the dog kill hares after 3 minute plus which is no mean feat for any dog,ran mostly on an airfield with runway's & big patches of gorse dotted about so they weren't easy hares..in fields he was better still, big fields but not fenland. The dog killed 3 hares of a morning many many times Chaff. He wouldn't of cut it on fenland but elsewhere I guarantee he wouldn't of disgraced himself, great little dog he was. Sadly he's long since gone but the lads who ran him regularly will have a hell of a lot of memories with him & he left a good impression on me too.

    Top tale Andy ๐Ÿ’ฏย

How old is Don now? My Celt went on at 15, a year back.

    Cheers, D.

Here's old Don right now D out on our second wander today,he only gets out twice daily nowadays but I may take him for a wander up the mountains on Xmas Day morning just for old times sake,he can still put a few miles in,he's just about totally blind & deaf now but a tracking collar on him & he should be fine..I'd bet my life if one of the other's flipped one over he'd soon be able to see ok hahaย

Sounds like your getting near whippet ownership age lol

Do you still keep the diplomatic Pom mate

Ruby my Pom passed away back in August of 2021 at the age of 15 mate, best dog I've ever owned honestly..she was my shadow, companion & best friend for every day of those 15 year's,I still miss her every single day. I've had some smashing dog's over the year's but Ruby was just something else..the day I had to have her pts I wrapped her up in my padded shirt & drove to some of our hunting haunts,I drove some 45 miles to where we park up to go hunting the big beasts on the mountains & where she had accompanied me up there in excess of 100 times,as soon as I drove into the carpark she started whining & what not,she didn't have the strength to lift her head but she knew where we were alright. On our way home I called the vet & drove straight there where I had her pts. I sat there with her in the vets for a good half hour after she had been pts. That wee dog was my world ๐Ÿ’” ..Pom Power!! Always!!

    Has Boots sired many litters?

He's got 3 litters on the ground mate,he mated a bitch this year which never took so I'm guessing his 'offspring' days may be over to be honest he's been dreadful with bitches, without sitting down & going through everything I'd say he's had 50 bitches to him & covered 3,that's how bad haha
