Cracking thread!! Can I ask what camera you use Fuji?ย

Just old Canon dslrs mate, nothing fancy at all..I have a few Canon 7d,Canon 5d,Canon 650d,Canon 50d & a Canon 350d..don't get too mindset in high megapixels it means absolutely nothing unless your blowing pics up to poster size etc,a decent lens on any of the aforementioned cameras will get you decent pics, the 7d does take more pics per second than the others so for fast action pics it's a good choice. We're I to only own one I'd probably say the 7d of the one's I own but I do like the old 5d Classic. All just bought off eBay and none more expensive than ยฃ200

Just out of interest mate, are you happy with how the saluki bull greyhound you have out of your dog boots has turned out? Looks a powerful animal ๐Ÿ‘ Reason I ask is I'm thinking down that line for my next dog, a sbg. I did work aย  1/4bull 3/4 greyhound years ago but I'm thinking that adding a splash of saluki I will give more wind and stamina. Any thoughts appreciated? cheersย

The two dog's I have out of Boots have both suffered major setbacks in their life mate, this dog here Bear broke his neck as a young dog,at the time he looked like he was going to make a serious dog,day or night came alike to him, very fast dog, brilliant retriever & regardless of how big or how hard it was he dealt with them,as a young dog he showed more wind than his sister Rose, obviously him breaking his neck stopped his progression in its tracks. I like the dog regardless of his disability, what he can still do he does it very well. Rose snapped both bones in her front leg back in February of 2022 but she came back from that after having surgery to fix it in unbelievable form,in fact she had her best season to press starting away just 7 month's later. She still put plenty of big rabbits to rest during the daytime & dozens of hoof too,her best night lamping on the big bunnies came after breaking her leg when she caught 15 of them so no mean feat for an animal having had such an injury, she isn't anywhere near the size of her brother but on teeth she is a harder animal than him..they aren't the best at anything really but they are pretty good at everything mate..I think you will have a good bit of fun with a SBG should you go down that route buddy ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

You will need Plenty of phone credit, Ear plugs and the ability to read 700 years of breeding in an hour or so to talk to Geoff, Joking aside, i have seen a couple of his dogs make decent dogs but then again i could say the same about Hancock. Best idea is go with your head not your heart Lol

It'll of been one of the original ones from centuries ago that you seen at graft no doubt was it? ๐Ÿ˜œ

I beg to differ with that 1 mate the ban was pushed through by the Labour Party to secure votes it's simple as that yeah corse you'll have muppets you get that with anything there plenty of people out there who people will regard as professionals if you want but you'd be suprise what some of these so called professionals have to mess up people's way of life

I agree with you in regards to what was the main reason that brought our downfall, that being the Labour Party & their promise of banning hunting with dog's which had long been a controversial topic just to gain votes that would tip thing's in their favour at the election,if you can recall we got word that the Tories would reverse what Labour brought in if they regained power at the next general election, again to secure our votes, many voted for them only because of what was said in regards to the reversal of the hunting with dog's act,the politicians lied to us as they very often do. Being honest I'm glad I'm in my twilight year's of working the running dog's with the way things now are,if you hunt freelance then the consequences if things go wrong can quite literally now be life changing, the days of getting a ยฃ25 fine are long gone. I can understand why many have quit & others have been reluctant to start out, there's a hell of a lot to lose these day's if you break the law. These dog's I currently own will personally be the last that I work. I'll no doubt still be the one walking/feeding/grooming/cleaning a couple of runner's in year's to come but I'll leave the working of them to other's.ย

  8. I just want to set the record straight here,I did mention about Boots having mated a bitch earlier this week & truthfully I didn't have a motive to promote that as a sales pitch nor as a motive to promote Boots up for stud. I'm sorry if it came across as that,it never crossed my mind at all, I was only putting it out there as hopefully being a turning point regarding the awful run of bad luck I've recently endured. I only started this topic as a bit of craic regarding my own dog's & our recent adventures, nothing more & nothing less than that, just a bit of banter & to share a few pics that I've taken when out & about.. once again I'll apologise if it came across as I've mentioned at the beginning of this post..sorry ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Every one of has to deal with bad luck in one form or another the fact is that's life, this is a dog forum not an agony aunt forum. Retirement is so final ๐Ÿค”ย  ย again it seems you know more than I do about my activity with lurchers? ๐Ÿ˜‚ I prefer calling it a hiatus ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ‘ you will be doing your version of maths and telling me what game my dogs have decked in the the next post, it's fascinating to see that I'm so interesting! anyone who mentions your name to me I stop them immediately and say, I'm not interested, just wish I could get the same courtesy from people ๐Ÿ‘

Good to hear your back at it so to speak,I'll not be doing any maths regarding what you've caught Joe but hope your keeping the dog's busy & enjoying running them again ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป good luck for the remainder of this season & let's hope the dog's stay free of injury ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

It's took while in to get to it but I knew this sudden reappearance would have something to do with a mating due and or baiting for stud fees.

I started the topic back on the 15th December there wasn't any bitch in season to be mated that I knew about ,the lad only rang me this past Sunday to ask me about a mating, the bitch was mated on Monday & Tuesday of this week so my 'reappearance' as you call it was nothing to do or couldn't of been anything to do with what you mention.I didn't ask for a penny regarding a stud fee nor a penny for fuel to trail up into Scotland with my dog,the lad offered but I refused. I mentioned it because this past month or so has been nothing short of suicidal with all the bad luck I've had,I've had grandchildren involved in car accidents resulting in hospital admissions & plenty more similar things, the loss of a dog & numerous other things. I've never charged for a stud fee in my life & I'm heading for 60 year's old so I'll not be starting now Joe. Are you back out of retirement with the dog's again then Joe?ย

  11. Those that read Darcy's last book may recall seeing a chapter titled the 'Beast of the Bowl'..well that is part of the bowl in this pic behind Boots just the other day,it's been a fantastic 'watering hole' for๐ŸฆŒfor many year's..we have some great memories & some that I'd rather forget hunting up,on & around the bowl..have a tiptop day everyone, just away out with the mongrels now, watch how you all go ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Sorry to hear about the passing of passing of one of your dogs never gets easier to loose one especially a gudden n glad your sons ok.

How is your cocker bred do you like it..

What is the bitch like that boots has gone to..

My little Cocker is grand Dodge, yeah I like her mate, she's bred out of some good stuff, her parents worked on the moors & it's very easy to see that in her,she won't entertain thick cover but that's not a problem to me as there's nothing in the cover around these parts haha..she is the best natured dog I've ever seen in my life! She will get stuck into whatever the lurchers catch, teeth the lot, she's caught loads of rabbits when out on the moorland & or sieve type ground, like them all she's a brilliant retriever, loves water & is so easy to have around, she's a lovely little dog,her grandsire is Andy Platts dog Boots..she has 17 FTC in her pedigree so she's got plenty of decent blood in her Dodge..My dog Boots went over a broken coated bitch, she's got Saluki & Wheaton blood in her, she's a daughter of a dog called Demon of J Powell's.

Shame when we lose our dogs even worse when it's a decent 1 I've lost a fair few in my time as I dare say alot of lads and ladies have on here and in the working dog world but it is what it is if we thought about it too much we'd either throw our selves out the window or we'd never work dogs again. I lost a bitch last year though a freak accident worst bit was I'd not long had her when it happened and I'd had her off my mate cause he said il only give her to you cause you'll look after her then that happened I couldn't believe it all the best any wayย

I hear you loud & clear matey,I know you've been on here a long while & have kept working dog's even longer & like you say if you do a bit quite regularly over a period of time it's unfortunate but it's quite likely at some point something untoward is going to happen to one of the team. It certainly does knock the wind out of one's sail so to speak but as you rightly say you've got two options they being quit or get straight back on your horse & you go again. In our case my lads already been back out with the little dog's & had a great day & I've been back out with the big dogs,I won't say I'm not sick as a parrot still as I really did like this wee dog but again as you say it is what it is,the moment we release them off their leashes be it the terriers or the lurchers it could quite easily be the last time..sorry to hear of your loss too buddy, sure does test you that's for sure. All the best to you too Penda..
