Had a stroll up the mountains this morning at daybreak to see what thing's were like,I actually travelled in the motorhome last night with the dog's Boots & my Cocker bitch Suzie & spent the night in it ready for an early start this morning, the weather could of been better,it rained non stop every second we were out, down at ground level it was dry,you really couldn't make it up..drenched would be an understatement! I was glad of the motorhome on coming back down from the mountains, change of clothes, coffee & something warm to eat..was nice to see a bit of wildlife even on such a hor

Nice types Tomo,I like them ?.. hopefully they serve you well for many a year ??..I'm pretty much pi##ing in the wind with most of what I've got here now,Don is 13 in March,Fenn is 10 in January,Boots was 9 back on the 1st October so I've my two young dog's which were 3 in September gone & one of them broke his neck so isn't ever going to be the dog I hoped he would be..still we keep on keeping on with what we have. I still like the big dog that broke his neck,he was heading right for the top before he got injured but he still does ok to be fair, beautiful temperament on him,big strong, powe

Lovely they are Tomo..be a bit quicker than you & I I'm sure of that ?
-
Good to hear Tomo..we still have old Swift here, she's looking well considering,Don still here as well oh as is Fenn, pensioner's galore ?..I've said for a while now the dog's I have now will be my last, working dog's that is..we will see how the next year or two goes anyways with the younger generation I have here now ? This is Rose, she is our number one runner now, she's handy enough..far from flawless but she's a fair bitch, she's a pup out of Boots

Hope all's good with you & your lot Tomo? Are you keeping busy in regards to hunting these day's or are you more like me just a 'has been' part timer as my lads like to call me ?

Yeah she nailed it bud,I've always suspected there was more to her than just Pom but who knows? The German Spitz from where the Pomeranian descends comes in 3 sizes & I've often wondered if she was one of those or at least had some of that blood in her? The German Spitz comes in a variety of colours but they do come in her colour too, this is one below..

Thankyou everyone..it's touched me reading all your posts she was my absolute world for 15 whole year's..through thick & thin it was just her & I & a few lurchers, she brought plenty of dog's on here, kept every single one of them in check..she really was top dog here ??..I'm so grateful to you all, thankyou so much ?

Thankyou for you input buddy,I've always loved lurchers with a bit of Lab in them, problem being I've never owned one myself! The ones I've seen have all been cracking animals,I've not seen a moderate one let alone a bad one, were I a younger fella I'd probably try & source a dog with working Lab blood in it ..they really impressed me & sounds like that Keeley bitch did you too..I hear you regarding the boulders etc, they don't move if a dog hits them at full speed & the outcome is never favourable for a four legged pooch if the worst happens..I've seen more than enough injuries from

Lovely!!

Absolutely fella ?

This was Boots having been successful yet the weather was absolutely baltic & within minutes he was within a breath of death as soon as the adrenaline in him relented..this is the reality of hunting up in the mountains & Wales 1234 post confirms the dangers of running up there too..we all know every run can be a dog's last run everytime we slip them even on a nice flat pasture of a field but a couple of thousand feet up,miles from anywhere or anything in the dead of winter if things go pear shaped you really are walking on a knifes edge in regards to the wellbeing of your dog..I'm glad

Release if possible,if not you fill your backpack & the rest feeds the vermin..there is no other alternative.

R.I.P Gary..rest easy fellow hunter ?

Yeah, great advice bud, never thought of getting one of them bothy shelters so this is exactly the type of post I'm looking for, people to share stuff that may help not only me but others be it with ideas that you've given me,types of dog's that can hack it & those that would likely be a major cause for concern up there in the dead of winter..top post bud, thankyou!!
-
Magical!! Fantastic post! Sorry I can't 'like' your post I've used my daily quota of them up today.
-
Cheers Flacko,if you heard me huffing & puffing & whining 'f###ing never again' everytime I go out on the mountains you'd probably realise the dog's are a little fitter than me these days ?
-
I hear you matey..we've all had to carry a few over the year's that's for sure & it's never an easy task, not ever! ?

There are no hiding places out on the mountains, especially in the dead of winter where temps are often well below -10c & when the winds blowing the real feel can be sub -20c quite easily, the weather can be brutal, the terrain likewise & the critters that make them mountains their homes don't just fold & submit, far from it..it's a tough old game hunting the high tops especially when the rocks, scree & everything else is covered in a layer of the white stuff be it snow or ice or even both, just being out in such conditions for several hours can take it's toll on both man and dog esp

Where did I say it kept their teeth clean? I just said soaked biscuits WILL rot a dog's teeth years sooner than fed dry biscuit & I'd not feed ANY dog a bowl FULL of dry or soaked kibble whether I was taking it out walking, coursing or whatever, non of mine get more than a small beaker of dry biscuit in their scran daily, for what it's worth Gain is poor grade feed, there's better out there if your budget is in that bracket,Alpha feeds is better quality,Red Mills is one of the poorest 'popular' kibble feeds on the market these day's,it was once a decent feed, not anymore..people can feed their
