Unless someone can quote the exact legislation, it's NOT illegal. People keep talking about the 'vermin list' and no such thing exists these days. All the flora and fauna of the UK was listed in the W&C act, and effectively protected. Certain species were identified as being 'alien' and some others were listed as game. Schedule 14 (now replaced by a Statuatory Instrument) lists certain species which can be 'taken' by any authorised person, at any time.
