  1. Mate and I have 7 fox dogs between us all are more than capable of taken there fox with out any trouble. Deerhounnd/greyhound bitch staghound bitch 2x 7/8 stag1/4 bully whippet x staghound Airedalex staghound Whippet As has been said its not the breed so much but the love of killing foxes in the dog that counts. All these dogs love taking them one out.
  2. Right, first we're talking dogs not people so an example using a totally different species is a wee bit pointless, there are plenty of small things that can kill big things, i accept that. In this case though we're talking a dog and fox, which when it comes to being two different species they are actually in build and 'weaponry' etc are actually fairly evenly matched. Now the question was not, could a spoon fed, house whippet who is pampered by and old lady, kill a fox? It was could a whippet kill one? Now i'd say probably not to the example you use, the same with a molly coddl
  3. They did a mighty job getting the hounds of that grizly Im sure glad you have them over there and you can keep them.
  4. ya i flush them with salt water they get over it but a good friend always flushers puncher wounds out with metho Im never sure what would be worse.
  5. Thanks once again for the replies some good information. yep pepa Graham is the fella I had some love hounds from in the late 80s, shame about he failed with his attempt in court bloody governments ya.
  6. Where did your pup come from pepa? I knew of a fella that imported hill/fell type foxhounds for his deer hunting years ago some of the ones I owned came down from these hounds. when the foxhound deer huntng ban came into victoria I heard he was importing kerry beagles to try and be able to use them. Not sure if he ever did. good luck with your pup it will be interesting to hear how she turns out.
  7. Thankyou for the replies very interesting style of hound.
  8. A friend of mine in victoria is the terrierman for a hunt called the Barwon hunt. he was tell me last night that they run Kerry beagles as well as fox hounds. So I was woundering if any one on here hunts with this type of hound and how do they handle ?
  9. full of young probably my jack russell would prob catch it summer killings where is the sport If it were summer you might right but anyojne with his head out of his a rse would know seasons are oppisite in the southern hemisphere.
  10. well said tyla. Im running late autumn hares at the moment we were out foxing and mates ardale xstaghound put the hare out of cover he had a fare head start but didnt do him much good whippet was on him in no time.
  11. my whippet took one yesterday afternoon out on a turf farm was great to watch. pretty sure my staghounds are quicker but they take a week to make a turn them make the ground up again. the whippet turns om a sixpence and stays on therms with his hare. hes 21 inches tts and quite strong made for a pur whippet. hes not a regestered dog but im sure he would go back to kennel club stuff. ill put a pick up when I get a chance.
  12. Idont mean to be rude but your starting to sound stupid best to let it go mate, Alright genius, how am i starting to sound stupid? It's a simple question. Hunting with dogs here = ILLEGAL. Flushing with 2 to the gun = NOT ILLEGAL. So, all i'm asking is where does 'baying to the gun' come - Illegal or not. NOW HOW THE f**k IS THAT STUPID SMART ASS??? OK you started asking bout Cur lines, then stated you would love to see them work ,ok so far, then started asking bout legality of hunting with hounds, which you should know as you implied you hunt, then when so
  13. how is a baying or bailer any different to a sheep or cattle dog doing their job. all they are doing is finding it and keeping it in the one place without holding it. plenty of fellas use kelpies and boarder collies for bailing pigs over here.
  14. I guess the only chance you would have over their is that any coon hound breed other than black and tans has only been kc reg. for a very short time even in their home country. As far as price goes any new Import breed over here costs a motza. but some are prepared to pay just to have some thing different blue ticks were bought over here as deerhounds for the samba now they are everywhere. And cant be used for deer now so they are making their mark in hog and fox packs.
  15. I had the pleasure of hunting with a pack last saturday they had a blue tick cone hound as well as a blood hound these to hunted ox very well especially in the cover and at the check.
  16. far dinkum have you ever seen the ground salukis hunt over in their home land its not the bowling greens you guys run your dogs on.
  17. might be handy on the foxes we get them go up trees to escape the dogs at times. I wanted this breed for 30yrs ever since I saw the where the red fern grows.
  18. lovely litter good luck with them
  19. I wouldn't discount him so quick AG a cold blood like that will do a job for you if the hunt drive is in him. saw some big dogs like that catching jack rabbits while i was over there just give him the exposure and see how he goes.
  20. Dogs starts that crap its back to basics for me they have to earn their freedom . Id be putting dog on a long lead and let them drag it about Then only give one call if it doesnt come real it in and make it sit at your feet then give a tid bit to make comming to you an enjoyable experance dont lose your temper as much as you would like to as it is at this age a lot of longdogs are ruined by heavey handed impatient owners.
  21. mate has a white dog catches more than his share. only thing I can see with it would be if you were you shouldn't be easier to spot at night.
  22. i relise you guys can only call on your experance before the ban but my mate has started a whippetx whippet/staghound this season. and I know Its only early but this little fella is running rings around the other dogs in both finding foxes in the swamps and spoting them out in the open. hes a fox hating deamon the only place he lacks a little is on the kill as he lacks a little jaw strenght. But hes making the other dogs look ordinary of late and they have all found and caught well over the last season. Have any of you guys had experance with this type of dog and did you find them the same.
  23. in my experance when Ive run my dogs 1 out the bitches are quicker are lighter built so they turn better my dogs are a little bigger so are heavier though are better on the kill but they can all do it just do it different. As I hunt other game I like to run a trio Ive found running 2 males with 1 bitch brings the best out of the males. unforunately at the moment I only have the one male and 2 bitches It doesnt work the same in the reverse.
  24. Well I recon you could end up with one of 2 things or one of each. 1 a foxhound type that stays in a patch of cover and quarters all day never missing a leaf. or a cocker that runs a line straight out of the woods and far away. always a risk crossing dogs of different hunting styles hopefully he will get the type he wants.
  25. Tenerfeild is getting to the north of there their range in australia they can be found in southern Qld but are very seldom hunted with dogs north of about the hunter valley and are uaually controled with 1080 bates up north.
