  1. http://www.solwayshooting.co.uk/ used this guy 15 years ago.
  2. Send off for some tester packs. Every barrel is different so do some testing of your own.
  3. My own (brand new) tx is flawless but there was another on the shelf that looked like the barrel had been drawn into the cylinder with mole grips. They took the walnut stock off this one and put it on the action I have now. The AA is almost blacking rather than bluing. You can't go wrong with either and I did love the HW, just not enough. I know that this one shoots a lot better than my 97 ever did and that is literally straight out of the box which gets mentioned a lot. The good thing is even if you don't like the choice you made you won't lose much coin as they are both very sought after
  4. I'll buck the trend. I recently had a HW97 (TW tuned) and whilst it was an improvement over standard it wasn't anything special or to be more accurate, it didn't do a great deal for my shooting. Admittedly it was because I tried a Walther LGV whichput the HW into the "no longer needed" category. Last week I bought a brand new TX 200 in Walnut just for the sake of it and on Sunday I went to a local Sporting Rifle HFT comp and came third overall. This suited me much more than the HW but I still have to admit the Walther beats it again on the accuracy level.
  5. I used a vice and basically destroyed the thing getting it off. A useless pos that has no right to be on any gun. When it came off there was a definite tram-line where the grub screw had buried into the barrel.
  6. Mawders, I can't count the time I've put 44mm down in posts, it is 40mm and I'm a nob again.
  7. I have 2 x Panorama's in 3-12 x 44 guise, one in 1/2 mil-dot and one in MAP6A. The 1/2 mil-dot is busy in comparison and a little thicker set. The MAP6A is reticle nirvana for me but I'm working hard to appreciate the 1/2 mil-dot. Got a nice weekend ahead to test it further.
  8. I'm not a hunter but that was a great write up.
  9. From an HFT shooting point of view I think they are very good indeed. I came away from an MTC Viper purely down to the SCB reticle. I went for a Panorama 3-12 x 40 with a MAP6A ret and have never looked back. I have another one sitting at the Post Office depot waiting for me to collect it in the morning. Reading one of the Airgun mags last month I was intrigued by a review of the Hawke Nite-Eye digital and the claim was that this was a great scope for HFT; I am here to tell you that after using Panorama's it falls well short. In fact it's like looking down a drinking straw. Never thought
  10. Isn't he the same bell end who does the cooking in the Woolpack? ugly fckr
  11. This story is about guns and not the man behind it. Had he attempted to drown it and then it "resurrected" he would not be up before the beak.
  12. Looks like a very young Goldcrest to me.
  13. Good call. Let us know how you get on with them. Did you go black or green?
  14. I agree. For 13 years I have stopped killing but I don't deny the next man the privilege of his sport. I still go out to flight geese but without a gun. I think the Hawke's will do you proud out on the merse.
  15. See what you mean. Many of the optics bods on BF are keen hunters, especially the yanks.
  16. If estuaries rather than stalking is your bag then go for the 10 X (good for astro too). Woodland then the 8 x 43 win hands down. Get both, I did and as you can see for yourself, they are tremendous value. See you joined the birdforum?
  17. Good call. I know Deben are first class for warranty work as I sent a scope back to them. I have owned every derivative of he Frontier ED's and nine pairs overall and I have never had an issue yet.
  18. Pays to shop around guys. LCE were doing these at £250 recently and e-bay is good for around £270 delivered. Pair on e-bay (MKII) for £250 new.
  19. Enjoy them. I recently made a mistake in selling my other set of ED's to fund buying the Hawke Sapphire ED's. I was disappointed with the colder image in the Sapphires so went back to the Frontiers. Scary what they achieve for such a low price.
  20. Having owned the Swarovision's and still the Zeiss my optimism is based on usage and nothing else but we all have differing eyesight therefore opinion. The Frontier ED provides performance across the board including low light as good as the Swaro's, that is a fact to me having viewed them for months side by side in all instances. The Ultravid I thought were some way behind the Swaro's.
  21. They have a superb selection of used/nearly new also. Out in the sticks but worth a visit.
  22. You can get quality on a budget. Being a birder for years I have owned some of the best optics on the planet but currently I am back to Hawke Frontier ED (MKII 10x43) as my main bins. In the summer I had fortune to get a pair of Swarovision's which I have to say are the very best optics I have seen apart from a Kowa scope I tried. The Svaro's were £1700 yet provided probably a 1% overall difference to the Frontiers which can currently be had for around £250. To many who compare the Svaro's with the Frontiers the difference was undetectable (mostly estuaries) I put them up for sale on here but
  23. Me, the wife and daughter are all bed-ridden with this poxy thing. Been like this since Monday and in four days I have eaten only six pieces of toast.
