as morten said , perfect advice. if you have another dog get them both out and slip the older dog on gear and let pup watch yes it will pull your arm off but will grow that gameness, when out in bushy land gorse bramble etc.... with a head of bunnys lget it off the lead and let it learn to use its nose, the later you leave it the worse the dog will be at hunting up. i have a pup at 9 month its a bullx hes been slipped less than i can count on one hand and missed one. they have all been easy runs. little and often. dont give your pup a grueler of a run till atleast 14month. just remember your p

i had this problem, i had all together well over ,000 acres 5 year ago but sily l me joined the army and lost most of it. the stuff i still had has been wiped by others. i dont drive not for two weeks so i bought a map and looked at the land. walked miles and miles over a a couple of months on foot paths and found land worth having. i then approached the owners, with no dogs!!, dressed smart, country style on some and shirt and shoes on other(it makes a difference lol) i made a hunting shooting cv with past permissions and refferences, also insurance including basc, ca and ngo. belting write

Decided to have a walk today got the rucksack ready and set off, ended up doing 18 miles, just kept on walking. Didnt see much only a couple of rabbits but they were straight into cover. Walked some land ive not been on in over 3 years so decided to check the earths and see what tracks are about. looks like someones been busy most of the earths had been dug and poorly replaced. Brayed on and covered some varied ground from moors to woodland and a couple of quarrys. evening, ive looked through older posts but not found anything. Im after a few dog jabs, some for a mate and a course for my self. rang two local vets and one is charging £125+vat and the other £100+some other charge then reg fees and Yearly check up fees :@. i used to know a chap selling them at £15 a pop but doesnt do them any more. anybody know of any websites or yocals who shift a few, atb scott

I took a young lad out with my dogs last week and let him watch mine at work he was hooked but getting in with wrong lads. I took him today and got his 1st dog he's chuffed to bits. And I know its a fair bitch and will suit him. I'll be out mentoring him. I'm no pro but if you don't make an effort the sport has no future. Atb scott

Hunter 96 don't listen to these old decrepid creatures going on at you prove this prove that, they obviouslydont get enough attention from their mrs. I've been in your position as a newbie, not lost a dog to ill health only old age and even that is hard. You crack on and listento as much advice as poss. If uncertain ask on here. Total pish, we were all young and starting out once, but we didn't have access to all the advice and information this kid has. Everything he needed to know or needs to know is available on here. He's been offered a lot of good advice already, like concentrate on your whippet and forget another dog for now. I'm willing to bet he'll get another pup in jig time.

Band wagon job or what! He's a kid for fk sake he just wants stearing in the right direction. Kids have no patience and in this case no experience of what dogs to buy or not. Not enough is done to bring younguns on to carry on our sport. Yet a few of you will sit at your keyboards and pick on the kid. Just remember we all had to start somewhere and yeah it is hard especially for a kid who knows very few people into the game.big respect to the lads offering good advice etc..
