  1. ive just walked that farm and the places there are huge , im not kidding one wooded bank on a steep embankment, the sett covers about 50 or60 yards there are 11 entrances that are between 4 and 6 foot gaping caves and god knows how many 2foot wide holes the end of that 50 yards theres about 30 yards of 20foot high bank thats collapsed onto the track and when i went up the top to the field above theres a huge dip where the tractor went through last year , 8 huge holes 2 or 3 feet wide on the flat anywhere from 5 to 15 yards out into the field . . . It is a mess , thats by far the worst sett on
  2. the badger is a problem ,and the badger population is completely out of control .these statements are facts not opinions. I have no idea what the official badger population of this country is and i have no idea how that figure would be reached, im out with the lamp regularly and i cover quite a few thousand acres ,as the badger is nocturnal i see the year on year increases , when the badger population is estimated do they shine the fields or just watch the odd sett in the woods? I wonder what the optimum number per acre is for a healthy sustainable population , i see hundreds of badgers , hone
  3. im not from bridport use to know a few from there years ago Im not from bridport . .and im old but not that old , i didnt buy my house with the profits of welsh salmon . . . .
  4. i am the first to admit that i dont know the whole story with the ward hunt, only the part that got (extensive) coverage in the cmw a couple of years ago. If i am wrong about any FACTS then please enlighten me . .but , i think for myself ,form my own opinions and support what i believe in , and oppose what i dont . . .this is how i see it : the ward hunt stags only to release them at the end. Assuming they are not a new hunt and have some history im guessing this has not always been the case , at some point they just hunted deer and dispatched them , why change , all i can think is either dee
  5. haha ha , yeah right . . .only 3 things possible here mate , either its you , or you know damn well who im talking about , or you know f all haha!!! But that was a long long time ago for me ,i walk alone and i miss them old dogs too , seeing jake drop 3 sika stags one after the other, and not in a field of 50 ! I had a little 23 inch bitch i got off sj and she was ferocious on deer , one time ,by the time i got across the field she d got hold of a big un , got it down and grabbed the head! She had her bottom jaw up in the mouth and her top jaw clamped shut splintered the skull popped the eye o
  6. we have had a few stags with there heads cut off and ive even found them when ive been out. every one round here knows who it was in the end he moved somewhere else they used to do it just for fun of it, it was alright back in 88 or 89 because every one use to sell them i remember back then bumping into over people doing the same thing you could see up to 5 different gangs out in a night now they are hard to sell so you do get afew that go out and kill them and leave where they are and cant be bothered to even hide them so no one sees them they just dont care , and now there is 5 times the de
  7. last year i fell asleep in the armchair and didnt shut up the birds , woke up at 11 and out of 72 xmas geese i had 36 dead or dying , i had to neck about 6or 7 of them myself , they were lying there flapping . . As they were all sold at £40 to £50 each , those 2 charlies cost me £1500 to £1800 in one night. I dug 9 in 3weeks with one terrier , it was early autumn and none were home so i had to draw covert with the lurchers. . and me smashing through the woods with a spade in each hand to get them to ground, then drop the terrier in , very hit and miss , plenty of blank days , but i was lik
  8. i have to say i dont really understand this (but gun law isnt really my thing) . .why was the stalker charged but not the 3 paying guns? Surely they are all guilty of trespass with intent to take game , and assuming it was the guns who shot the deer ,not the stalker why was he charged , other than trespass with intent ,hes only really committed fraud , and poss only deception. Isnt it every stalkers legal duty to ensure they are hunting within the law ? Is "oh he told me it was ok" really an acceptable excuse? No loss of certs in the report. This all reminds me of a story doing the rounds down
  9. i dont support this type of hunting , what is the defence of this?? We hunt the deer then we let it go . . Are these hounds muzzled? Really its indefensible, theres no "the deer is legitimate prey hunted for a reason , for a purpose" no "the deer do damage to crops" or "the deer are overpopulated" its just the pursuit of an animal for no other pusose than human entertainment. And isnt the ward union the hunt who 'cart stags' . . .ie they box up a stag , drive it to the hunting ground , hunt it , then let it go . . .
  10. dave , i cant speak for anyone else but my personal view regarding the hunting act , and every other law for that matter , is . . .for me it is not about keeping within the law, it is about doing what is right , in all aspects of life. It is about your own personal moral compass , i have hunted the same way for decades , i make my own decisions and they are not clouded by the views of others ,be they peoples opinions or laws. I try to do what is right or at least not to do what is wrong. If there were no laws in this country i would continue the same , i would not burgle peoples houses or stea
  11. i dont disagree with everyone mushroom , just people whose opinions differ from mine. Protests shouldnt be about disrupting peoples lives , a certain amount of disruption is inevitable but the purpose is to make your views known , not to disrupt the lives of people . .and picking up toddlers from school is the one thing you have to be on time for in life. I dont know how many protest marches there were in london this year ,do you? If you were on the c a march , you wouldnt consider putting a dog through that , even if it was the only one there , the prospect of everyone taking their dogs ?? N
  12. ian , you know as well as i do that this is not anti propaganda , its been going on round here for as long as i can remember all the famous places are hot and this is why . . .and they are all a few minutes from police hq , any turning off that roundabout is sika heaven. Leaving deer behind is disgraceful and it happens all too often ,we all know how hard it is dragging sika stags 3 or 400yards , but it has to be done , you dont break gates and drive to get them and you dont leave them behind with their antlers cut off . . Remember the jam sandwiches in the road and shot stags with no antlers?
  13. What on earth makes you ask that? I have never suggested banning any form of hunting !! We have a chance here to influence the next generation of hunters , this sort of 'hunting' is a disgrace and completely unnecessary if you know what youre doing , in 27 years of hunting deer with dogs , i have never caused any damage , left any deer , or driven over crops , and funnily enough , day or night i have never seen a farmer , keeper , landowner, anti , or old bill . . .maybe im just lucky ?
  14. boxing day i like to start the morning with a walk for the lurcher . . . Across some really big open flat fields !! In the afternoon ive got 200quid on imperial commander at 6s and in the evening we will be having a local gamefowl exhibition . I love tradition
  15. yet again , more cowboys bringing it on top for everyone else. Bbc report theyre out on quads lamping deer with dogs and leaving mutilated carcuses behind. The place is legendry for sika , but i havent run a dog there since the 80s for the very reason that its always been on top. Thank god theyre so lazy they only hit the places that are jumping with deer , but this is the single biggest problem in the lurcher world . . .cowboys
  16. ric . . .democracy is the worst form of government , except for all the alternatives , winston churchill. And your first point is my point exactly as soon as theres a law we disagree with its oh we are not free any more , try telling that to the somalians or citizens of countless other countries which are living through horror stories. Im not to bothered about the civil list myself , im not sure how much it costs us but i would imagine its a few pence a year per person , and the constitutional powers of the sovereign really are in name only , the reforms i would most like to see are the comple
  17. Firstly , any quango made up of unelected people cant pass acts of parliament . .the govt acts on their reccomendations. With regards to your views on the organisation of marches , i think it has little to do with embarrasment , more to do with coordination and legistics , when the national front and the anti nazi league marched on the same day and it erupted into violence on the streets , whose fault was that? The general public live in london as well , are they not entitled to their freedom. Many protests are peaceful , but some are not , i would be shocked and more than a bit pissed off if
  18. Well yes , you do have a point there , you are free to comment whenever you choose , and as i am championing democracy and freedom of speech , i shouldnt have singled the two of you out simply for making purile inane , some might say immature, comments. . .but are you not embarrassed that not only are you incapable of making constructive comments ,you also dont seem able to recognise the topic of conversation.
  19. i love the video of the mongolians on horseback , killing wolves with eagles , but other than that ive pretty much done what ive wanted ,the hunting i havent done i have little interest in . Ive dug foxes , dug badgers (abroad) coarsed hares and spent about 90% of my hunting running deer with lurchers.
  20. yes maltenby , america is a good example of a free democracy , in some ways better than ours , in others not. Somehow though i doubt that those who think we are no longer living in a democracy here due to a global conspiracy of power would agree that the u s is a good example !! The constitution and bill of rights are great theoretical documents , but we also have laws declaring all men (and women) shall be treated equal dont forget. Freedom can be a complicated thing when represented in law , for instance to be treated equally is a fundamental part of american and british law , but when the l
  21. al bundy and twobob , take your "oh yes she is , oh no she isnt " thatcher pantomime somewhere else . . . Maybe start your own thread ?
  22. im glad youve brought it up , even if this thread makes 1 person change their ways it was worth it. My dogs all retire with me ,always have , always will. I cant face reading for sale pages , not here not in cmw , just upsets me too much , in fact wont read this thread again ,but well done for highlighting it
  23. ive got a lurcher that has to stand with one foot in the bowl while she s drinking . . Result being you could never come to my kennels and find clean drinking water down , cause she s always stood in it. . . .madness ! Happy xmas leanne
