My take on this thread is that someone with a sub standard dog, who in their heart of hearts knows it is sub standard but cant admit it, is asking other people with equally sub standard dogs to all pretend that they are proper working terriers. When in reality any terrier that can not be dug to the majority of the time it is entered is not worthy of the name working terrier. For the hunt terrierman they are the right tool for the job, for everyone else they are half a dog. not going to argue with anyone, but men i used to dig with in late seventies, would virtually GIVE AWAY a dog that w

bringing on the patterdale terrier
exmoocher replied to rebelstorm's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
the easiest way to enter your dog, if he already goes to ground would be to try him in a false earth, i.e clay pipes with two entrances, 1 at each end of a tunnel, with a chamber in middle, lot,s of these still knocking about in woods. if he has anything about him he will do the rest himself 95% of the time, if there,s any fox at home it bolt fairly easy from opposite end to where you enterd him, ask the guy yougot him off if he knows of any false earths near you, good luck!!! -

surely NO terrier is that friggin bad!!!! it looks as though they have tried to dig it out without a dog to ground???? nothing would surprise me!!!

 :11: nice one!

i`m a builder, if i were to dig foundations i would use a device to determine where underground drains were located, dig an oblong shaped trench slightly behind where blockage in drain is, making sure sides of trench were straight and neat not narrowing as you get deeper, as you get closer to pipe containing blockage, be more carefull untill you reveal pipe, if you are behind blockage you can then pull it out from behind. hope this is of some help.

nice LOOKING dogs, but they are all lakelandxrussel surely? i have seen some good dogs of this breeding, but are any of these working?

Patterdale Terriers and the UK Kennel Club
exmoocher replied to Pignut's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
The Patterdale does have written standard(s) and it is registerable in the US and in some European countries in the FCI. I also hope they will leave Patterdales alone. Though I must admit, the German Hunt Terrier is recognised quite long ago and it is still solely a working breed. Just IMO, Anna still dont answer my question, its only a type not a breed, they are black fells and have black fell history. you been readin too many books! how many patts. you had? as for k.c. r u takin the piss or what? -
go along to your local foxhound kennels and see their young hounds, or any greyhound schooling yards there you will see what young dogs should look like, FIT NOT FAT!!!!!!
-
should keep pups of that sort of age slightly on the leaner side not "chubby" , give him another month or more before showing him anything, you should soon see improvement, all the best with him.
-
saw the tape of blondie winning forley cup, awesome bitch that is!!!!! what age are they then?
