  5. Some days there's nothing about, and then some mornings, like today, the dogs were nose down as soon as they jumped down from the Land Rover. As usual, the old dog was leading the way, and as his speed increased I knew that the scent must have been fresh. He headed off into the trees with the old bitch stood stock still, cocking an ear for any action. She didn't have to wait long before the tell tale yodelling came through the trees, indicating the old fella was on to something. My view was impaired by the cover, but old charlie came through the trees and through the hedgeline I was standing o

  9. a little word of warning.....that's the easiest way to start a fight with that breed. Jealousy over toys or prey is a nightmare with Staffs and unless you know what you are doing your dogs could well be damaging each other rather than Paddington bear. Be careful.
  10. Plenty of growth left there fella. Looking good and interested there. I'll be intrested to see what the craic is a year from now mate. I'm sure she'll do you proud.

  12. I don't know how you do it mate
  13. Love the look of those Lab/Boxers of your mate
  14. Looking at Rock in that pic, it just screams Irish to me.
  15. If I remember rightly (and Kronenburg says I invariably don't ) Sid Wilkinson's Rock came down from Anthony Barkers Chowt faced Rock which came down from his dad's (Fred Barker) dogs which were infused with the white terriers brought to the Lakes from the Illfracombe badger digging club. Gary Middleton's dogs are heavily based on Mr. Wilkinson's Rock, and the Illfracombe dogs are why the white sports threw up in some litters.
  16. Didn't realise you guys had Sambar over there Kiwi. They are one big b*****d of a deer! My oppo from Qld gave me a book on hunting them by Lu Cervi. Top read!
  17. Cracking pics lads! I had the daughter out this morning and we bolted old charles
  18. Didn't see those Fellman, my fault.
  19. Is the collar not a little bit on the large side??
  20. Kevlar is no good for the collars mate. Pals of mine make their own collars out of various material, the most common I suppose being firehose, although the ones I have here are a bit more modern. The problem they had with kevlar when they were testing it was that the tusks went through it with apparent ease. You wouldn't have thought it eh?
  21. I'd been over to this earth on Xmas day and watched a fox walk out of this earth and away through the dead nettles whilst my other dogs were otherwise engaged. I thought I'd give the ground another go yesterday and see what the craic was. Bantam Cock had been on the phone in the morning and woke me from my flu-induced sleep. I'd been in my sick bed for five days and I was just about mobile now. Bantam had his dog to ground on the phone and there's nowt like that for getting your arse in gear and over the fields. As soon as the dogs were out of the land rover, they were nose to the ground a
  22. I reckon you are right CS but then again, when I sit and think about it, I can easily dissuade myself I reckon it all depends on why you are doing it and what dogs you are using to be honest. Your ultimate aims must also come into the equation and sometimes a dog with a bit of substance is needed. Personally when I've had terriers in the past I've looked to other terriers when mating and tried to avoid heavily bull blooded dogs, but I've had mates who've done the exact opposite and had great results. Me and my pal used to knock about with some gypos and they were always using bull russells i
