  1. Well, i was out ferreting yesterday, im going to do the write up on that later in the week when i get the pics from my uncle. Anyway, I had went out last week to my small permission and done about 6 sets, with only one producing rabbits (4 of). So we went back yesterday just to get out for a few hours and let the ferrets have a run about, didnt expect much. We done one set and got none. There was a field right next to us, belonging to another farmer that had a tree line littered with burrows. By chance the farmer was out on the tractor working in the field, i thought i would chance it
  2. When I had my ferrets years ago i mated my jill with a friends hob, it can be a bit of hassle when she has the kits but if you read up on it, and have the time to look after them properly, its not too bad. When i got back into it and got a new jill last year, she came into season and i booked an appointment with the vet to get a jill jab. It is an easy option and was only in the vets for 10 mins, but i have heard its best to only do this once. John
  3. Best of luck mate. Think i'll need to get the finger out and do the same
  4. Was out on Saturday and seen no signs. Thats me just got back into ferreting very recently and im going to be gutted when its time to stop. Ah well at least it gives me something to look forward to, still got the airgun anyway

  6. Thanks for the replies lads. Never thought of doing anything like that, so i'll defo have a think about that, seems like a good price too. If i was to go for that, whats the script with sending guns in the post? John
  7. Right, I have a BSA Lightning XL Tactical in .22. Im thinking about getting a gas ram in it, has anyone got or had one in their Lightning (or any other gun)? Would just like to know what you think of it and if its worth it or not and if its recommended. From the posts i've seen about them they do look good. Also, it looks like you can get 2, AWT & Theoben, is any one better than the other? Think i read somewhere they are both made by the same people. Cheers, John
  8. Thanks for the replies. Think ill get myself some of them poke nets incase they are ever needed.
  9. Right, I went for a walk around a part of my permission i have never been on before, and found quite a long tree line full of burrows. Most of the burrows start at the roots of the tree, and dont look like they are easy to net, if at all. So my question is, how would you net these? Is the only way to do it to use a long net? Never used one before, i know my uncles has one but i would imagine you need a good few Anyway im hoping to go at the weekend so thought i would ask you lot the best thing to do. Cheers, John
  10. Thanks for the replies lads. Thats me just up n getting ready to go, lets hope its a good day. John
  11. Right, I have got a permission at a horse riding school my sister goes to with a field thats got a few burrows dotted about. About 3 sets of burrows are the the top of a small hill, which has a small burn at the bottom of it. I went for a quick walk around today since the snow had thawed out and wanted to see if i could find any more burrows, as i have only ferreted it in the snow. There are parts of the field that are a bit flooded, and the burn is overflowing due to the snow, but to my knowledge, it is not at a level where any burrows might be. So my question is, is it possible fo
  12. Haha yeah i was, just trying to play down the enthusiasm. Its a great feeling. Thanks for the replies lads! John
  13. Yeah lets hope so. I've got a lot to learn but i cant wait to get back up there and give it another go. Theres a wee mound about 15-20 yards from the sheds, think ill lie up on that and wait for any to come out from there next time. The hard bit is actually getting set up in the position you want to be in without alerting them. Suppose it will all come with experience.
  14. Right first post in a while. I bought myself a BSA Lightning XL Tactical in .22 about 8 months or so ago. Been using it in the back garden shooting targets and the odd pigeon. Managed to get my first proper permission recently, my sister has a horse and moved it to new stables. She told me she had seen a lot of rabbits so i went up and asked if i could get permission to shoot or ferret on their ground. They were very easy going about it and said yes, and to feel free to come up whenever i wanted. So on Saturday morning I went up with the gun for a walk about. Got out of the car an

  17. Just watched a vid on youtube of a guy lofting decoys in trees with a lofting pole. Never really heard much about this being done before and was just interested in how its done, can anyone tell me? Do you need special decoys to do it? How much is a lofting pole? How hard is it to do? Is it easy to get results if done correctly? etc Any info would be appreciated. Cheers! John
  18. After reading this last night, i thought i would give it a go today. I got some of last nights left over dog food, put it on a bit of tin foil and left it in the garden. The spare room in my house is getting done up, and has windows that open out the way. So left the windows open and checked every so often to see if they had taken the bait. A few times the had, but i must have been too visable in the house and they flew away. Then a while later i spotted a crow taking the bait, and managed to get it. As soon as i'd shot it, 2 magpies were at it straight away, i was going to shoot
  19. thanks for the ideas, hopefully get a chance to try them at the weekend. Yeh i am lucky to have a garden like that, ususaly get pigeons, magpies and crows etc in it, used to get rabbits in my garden years ago, not seen any in years.

  21. Nearest neighbour is across the road, on the other side of my house, a good bit away from where that pic was taken. Theres only 4 houses on my road, the closest one after that is about half a mile down the road
  22. Hi all. I am wanting to try a bit of pigeon decoying in my garden. I have never tried decoying before. Below is a pic of part of my garden There is usually a lot of pigeons about my garden, usually in the trees (the numbers have declined since i started shooting them and feeding them to the ferrets), but almost never see any on the ground. On the left of the pic (what looks like a bush), is a tree that fell over years ago, but is still alive. I am thinking i could set a hide up in this tree and set some decoys about 30 yards or so away from it, and pick them off as th
  23. About 2 months ago, i got my first ferret since about 4 years ago, after deciding to get back into it. When i got her, she was starting to come into season, so when she was in season, i took her to get a jill jab, as i didnt have the set up to look after a litter yet. This was about 6 weeks ago, and the vet told me she would come into season again a month or two after the jab. Well she hasnt yet, but her nipples have swollen. Also, about an hour ago i changed her bedding, but she pulled a lot of it out of the box, when i tried to put it back in, she quickly bit me (she never bites me
