  1. # no offence to any body but in any animal its just NOT RIGHT, but it may be the only way for my ferrets at this rate. i am confused though because if this anemia is so serious how do some people keep them without it affecting them and them eventually dying of old age? By using one of the methods to bring the jill out of season , its not rocket science , ferrets like everything else can & do die for no apparent reason , so if you give them a decent life, food wise & good husbandry they will live as long as they live bar an accident of some kind The average age is around

Oh thanks i missed this i bet they still taste horrible though
  6. The condition John is very likely refering to is Aplastic anemia Aplastic anemia in ferrets refers to bone marrow suppression, resulting in a complete loss of red blood cells in the bone marrow. If an unsterilized female comes into heat, she will stay in heat indefinitely and during this period, her estrogen levels will remain high and be very toxic to her bone marrow. This can be fatal to your ferret. Its up to you what you do but theres loads of info out there regarding this condition, all it means id you need to get any jills out of season , the usualll methods are speying vasectom
  7. i will be footing the bills and therre is a animal rescue centrev near me that has ferrets so i will give them a call, i also need to ring to vet for the snip quote as they did not reply to my email. Chances are if you go to a rescue they will very probably already have been neutered, so unless you stress you want one vasectomising assuming they have an entire hob there they will automatically castrate him
  8. which ever way you do it its going to cost you a tidy penny , if your looking for a cheap way there isnt one , expect at least 40 to 60 quid for 2 ferrets from a rescue but they will already be neutered . if you get kits this year & then get a hob vasectomised late on this year the price will vary from vet to vet & that will probably cost up to about 50 quid , if you allow the ferrets to breed you have no experience & then have the huge task of providing enough food which if you dont have a freezer full of rabbit will be costly . I really think you need to get the all clea
  9. it is genuine mal only difference is there wanting to claim for you , charging you in the process , just use the inland revenue form if your entitled to this money they will pay it to you with out the 94 quid charge
  10. If you have your own income & its been made clear by your parents that the dogs your responsibility then it should be seen by a vet thats up to you to deal with that issue . If however your dependent on your parents still then its up to you to badger one of them to take you & the dog to the vets
  11. The link mal put up origonally is to a company who can collect on your behalf but they charge £ 94 for the priverlidge, use the inland revenue link & download there form , wont cost you a penny doing it direct
  12. i made my hutch to sizes provided on a ferret association site for two ferrets so they should be fine and yes i do have the room for more but was told this would be big enough. so is this best idea two jills and a hob or will the same happen? that is why i am asking all these questions in advance so i know and in regards to culling babies no this wasnt a plan but what would happen to ferrets you cant get rid of you cant relase them can you? if you want a starting point & have never kept ferrets before i will advise you to get 2 neutered ferrets from a rescue , then you have

  25. what is the risk of losing my snipped hob though? is it worth getting another working jill so i dont have to take him out? and what is a reasonable price for having a hob snipped? thank you for your patience i want to be sure as the lat gthing i want is to harm a ferret You mean when working him ? yeah sorry i didnt specify Well the easisist way to ensure you get your hob or any other ferret back after each trip out is a locator
